Hello, I have stayed at Novotel Derby quite a few. times now. Unfortunately came across few issues this time. I prebooked an EXECUTIVE DOUBLE QUEEN BED room stay at the hotel, on the website I input my card information to guarantee the room. When I got there, I was given a normal room with 2 single beds in room which was surprising to say the least, we thought it was a mistake... We went back to reception and spoke to the gentleman, told him he had given us a to which we didn't book, I showed him the email which stated I have prebooked an executive Queen room with a double bed instead of 2 singles in a normal room. Once he saw my email, he said sorry we don't have any executive rooms left as they only have 10 and somehow all were allocated to someone, even though I have prebooked the room and had it guaranteed on the website using my card!? He said he can find me a normal room with a big double bed instead and offer me a £15 refund, I kindly accepted the offer. Then when we got to the room, it was ok like any other Novotel room, issue however was that when we ran the tap to fill the kettle, the sink absolutely stunk of something, like the drains needed cleaning. Initially I thought the water from the tap was drinking but it was the sink drain for sure, I was in ro 352 if you wish to check the sink drains again. Anyway overall 5 out of 10 for this stay. Was upset as me and my partner were looking forward to staying in the executive room which we didn't get to do.

wrongly advertised meal times and arrived having not eaten since breakfast to be told food has finished 2.5 hrs early as hotel is quiet! I chose hotel even though it was an hr from where I was working but had a late restaurant and suited my limited dietary needs. 2nd night I got there in time for dinner and made my choice to be told they were only doing a limited menu as the hotel was again quiet! Again i had set off to find a shop miles away to get food. I appreciate that maybe this was a quiet period but you cannot penalise and restrict the facilities without informing the customer before hand. i would not have made a 2 hr round trip each day if I had know in advance. The hotel was very clean and spacious. The rooms were kept to a high standard and the customer service was very good. The beds were very comfortable as well and the room included a fridge, which was nice.

The rooms were nice and spacious, albeit a little warm for one of the party and the air conditioning unit would turn off during the night. The rooms could have used a deeper clean (specifically the bathrooms where dust had accumulated behind the mirror's edges). The coffee machine and free bath robes were comfortable, although a 1 size fits all approach is a bit unfair to larger sized guests.

The hotel is in a great location when travelling, just off the M1. However, it is not up to the standard of some of the other Novotel hotels that we have stayed in, the room was tired, the hotel looked like it needed some love/DIY and breakfast was not up to your usual standard. We had a room with an interlocking door which was a problem at midnight when the neighbours and their child came back. There is absolutely no sound block and the noise woke us both up! Although I must say that after calling Reception, the gentleman on the phone moved us immediately. Granted it was another interlocking room but there was nobody next door so we got some sleep! Overall, it was an ok stay but below the standard that we usually get with Novotel.

Awful. Don't book premium rooms and don't expect good customer service

I booked my mother and I (for her birthday) premium rooms as a treat for a family gathering. The rooms were the standard rooms. Receptionist reeled off a standard response that the website was to blame they only had 10 premium rooms and they were already booked. Gave us a single drinks voucher each and promised the upgrade package would be added to our rooms while we were out. Totally appreciated that, but less the abrupt way she dealt with us. Got back to the rooms later and the upgrade was a couple of chocolate bars, bottles of water and slippers. Thanks.. hardly compensation vs the premium room package. Spoke to night receptionist and explained this was below expectations and she explained nothing could be done as the duty manage was off that weekend. Promised to email the DM and send me the email. Never received this email or a reaponse or compensation, so only conclusion is I was lied too and you don't care about your guests as long as they've paid up front. Completely understand Novotel and all other hotels are under lots pressure right now, but it does NOT give you the right to treat me and my family like this. It was my Mum's birthday, it was supposed to be a treat, and your hotel ruined it. I'd give less than 1 if possible. Terrible experience

The hotel car park rubbish bins were full. Rubbish and litter in car park. The hotel looked very tired. We were there 3days and room wasn’t cleaned or refreshed. We did ask for clean towels.Hotel front garden was full of weeds and gave the impression it was very run down since we stayed last .

Mostly good, but we had two lots of payment taken on the website and were amazed to find that we had apparently booked two rooms, as we checked in. We are waiting for the refund. The hotel offered a pleasant breakfast and was used as a convenient base near to a family members and other friends. Being close to the M1 but not close enough to hear the traffic is convenient.

Poor hygiene, dirty carpets in hallway, stinking lift

Lift was smelling as if someone would have opened the bin, carpets are so stained in hall way it just makes you feel you have made a bad choice by selecting this hotel, the shower was not draining the water, asked at the reception and the plumber left MUD in the bathroom when we went back hotel

Service was not what we would expect from a 4* hotel

We arrived at lunchtime hoping to have a snack before attending a funeral in Nottingham. The restaurant was closed until 16:30. This meant we had to travel into Long Eaton to buy a sandwich, something that we had little time for. It was also closed for lunch and dinner on the following day (Saturday). There was no room service - meaning that we had to go to reception for replacement towels, toilet rolls, coffee etc - and there was no equipment to clean the basin, and no toilet brush provided in the toilet. Evidently the rooms are only serviced after a stay of six days. When checking out on Sunday there was nobody at reception and we had to telephone for the duty manager to come to take payment for drinks that we had taken at the bar. Breakfast was good, except there was only one toaster available that was very slow, and there was always a queue to use it.

Unfortunately the outside is not inviting. The car park appears to have come under a mortar attack, with huge potholes and a completely broken up surface. The drained outdoor swimming pool has succumbed to weeds. The room and bathroom were fine, however, what we booked is not what we are given. I did raise this but was told there was nothing that could be done and was offered my money back (not a solution when you are stood in reception late evening). Breakfast was OK. We had hoped to grab a quick bite before heading off but there were no pastries and the fruit had all gone within the first minute.

Not hygienic to have the commode in a separate cubicle with no sink. EV charging in parking doesn't belong to your hotel but it is on your site. It overcharged me and I emailed the company (BP) but no resolution yet. I am not planning to stay at your hotel for multiple reasons including bad experience with the EV charging .

Our 3 night stay did not include the normal housekeeping one would expect etc. Staff were not allowed into occupied rooms DUE TO COVID which was the mantra of all reception staff. The lift never had an interior clean as evidenced by the mirror. With fully sealed windows it was not a healthy way to avoid Covid. Luckily in the evening I could escape to my car with all windows open to breathe fresh air. The car park was full of trash and overflowing bins.
