The Sofitel in Moorea is set in a beautiful location easily accessible to everything you want to do while in Moorea. However the on property food options were subpar as many dinners were buffet options and one of the restaurants was closed. Additionally, the rooms could use an update to be better suited for today's technology.

We have enjoyed the stay, the resort is beautifully located, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. However, we were disappointed with the bar and the restaurant. The drinks we ordered, and they were not the complicated ones, were made incorrectly. When you pay quite high price for the drink, you expect it to be at least good, if not perfect, but margarita especially was a total disaster(maybe a teaspoon of tequila, no lime and it was sweet, just awful). The only safe drinks to order were just shots, no additions. Food at the restaurant was barely ok. We were ordering a la cart, did not try the buffet. There were few decent dishes, mostly raw tuna preparations. All other fish was overcooked. The beach bar served few nice appetizer size dishes, and mixed drinks were better.

At every possible step, this location created expectations for themselves that they could not meet. To contexulaize my experience, for the past 10 years I have worked at the Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel. To start, after reserving the room online through sofitel directly I was required to provide a credit card to secure the reservation. Eight days before our scheduled arrival we received an email that meets the definition of a "phishing" email to a T. It was not from the sofitel, it contained no information specific to our reservation like a confirmation number or even a check in day. It simply directed us to a site for payment, asking for our credit card information. I emailed the hotel asking for confirmation of our booking and checking if this was a legitimate request for payment. We received no response. A second request came one day before our arrival, and only after this second request arrived did we receive an automated email from Sofitel stating that external payment processing would be sent to us. Pickup from the ferry terminal and checking was smooth and pleasant, the receptionist was helpful and thorough. Our room, an overwater bungalow was also acceptable, considering the abuse the environment must wreak on these spaces. There was some room for maintenance updates, the screen in the balcony door was in terrible shape and the electrical on some of the lights was a bit dodgy, but overall it was a nice space. (It is worth noting that the manner in which the TV was mounted created quite a hazard as it protrudes into the space and we did knock into it several times). We did not pay for the buffet breakfast when reserving our room and this leads to another major issue. We did not realize and were not informed by anyone that by not reserving the buffet, we would not be allowed to sit for breakfast. That is to say, if we had wanted to pay for the buffet on site that would have been acceptable, but we wanted to sit and eat off the menu. This, it was made clear to us our first morning, was not allowed. If we wanted to have breakfast that was not the buffet, we would have to order room service for a 1500xfp ($15) charge. A charge that was pointed out to us every time we ordered room service (every morning except our last day). As a "luxury" brand the cost of a service shouldn't be slapped across the face of the guest, especially in this case as the extra charge is printed at the bottom of the room service menu. On the day we left, we made a final attempt to have breakfast and begrudgingly we were seated. For a plate of cut fruit, which was an item available on the buffet, it took approximately 30 minutes to arrive. We ate one lunch and one dinner in the restaurant, and they were well presented, but average in flavor and quality. The menu has a surprising amount of standard American fare then for an island resort. There were at least 5 different burgers, less than that many types of fish. We ate several lunches in the bar off the tapas menu. These items were more our style. In the restaurant and the bar the service was extremely lacking. There seemed to be little organization to who was doing what and when. Either no one would check on us, or everyone would, there was very little in-between. Often after being checked on by several people, we'd have to follow up ourselves with the bartenders to actually get our order or check. Housekeeping also seemed a bit disorganized, apparently relying mostly on requests for service in the form of door hangars rather than specific service times. I understand a reduction in Housekeeping due to Covid, but it was not made clear if Housekeeping was limited to only upon request. What was made abundantly clear, was that Housekeeping would not clean your room if you were present in it. On one day, the only day Housekeeping did not clean our room, we were out swimming and kayaking in the lagoon. We hung the door tag up to request a cleaning and from the water we could see Housekeeping cleaning the rooms on either side of ours. After being out of the room for at least 3 hours we returned to see that no one had come. For our departure, we arranged for a taxi to the ferry station with the hotel. They booked the taxi and told us when to be ready in the lobby. We made the arrangements the day before our departure. That evening we received a letter informing us "we would be receiving our bill..." it did not specify how, or in what manner, simply that it would be coming. It also noted that the bellman would come at 10:30a to collect our luggage. This was convenient as our taxi was scheduled for 10:45a and our ferry departed at 11:15a. On the day of our departure, no bellman came. At 10:35 I called and they sent someone who arrived at 10:40. We could have easily walked this ourselves in less time and were getting ready to do so when they finally arrived. This accentuates the hotel set an expectation for themselves and then failed to deliver on it. We would have walked, or called for a bellman ourselves had the hotel not set the expectation. When we arrived, our taxi was waiting, but we couldn't depart because the front desk needed us to check out and pay for our additional charges. This was exceptionally frustrating as we were now counting down minutes for our ferry departure. Again, we did not schedule the taxi, this was done for us under the advice of someone who we thought would know better. Checkout involved printing an invoice and looking over line items, many of which were generic lines that were impossible to isolate as specific events, activities or even meals. After hastily completing the checkout process we jumped in the taxi at 10:55. At this point I noticed I had received an email at 10:52 with my final invoice informing me that I had been approved for rapid checkout and could simply skip the front desk and leave my keys in the room. Too little too late, as it was also a different total the. What the front desk presented me. The final insult to this affair was the cost of just the rooms for four nights at the sofitel was over $1000 usd more than four nights PLUS all meals and drinks at a separate hotel on a smaller island. I will never understand how or where they come by charging the price they did for how little service and I'm amazed at how this is considered luxury.

The Sofitel is absolutely stunning. You must stay in an overwater bungalow to get the full experience. There are endless fish in the ocean right outside your room. We even got to swim with a school of fish! The staff is very friendly and the service was excellent.

We absolutely love this hotel. this is the second time i've stayed here in the past 12 months and we hope to come back again in the future. Having stayed in both the superior and luxury rooms, I would recommend spending the extra money for the additional space you get in the luxury rooms. I also would recommend the horizon overwater if you can afford it, as the view truly is sensational. And, nothing beats being able to jump off your pontoon and into clear water to see a ton of amazing fish. The people who work at the hotel are lovely too. They are helpful and you get the sense that they are happy you are there (which, frankly, is not always the vibe that one gets at a hotel). The food at the restaurant is pretty good - my husband said the breakfasts here were the best of all of the places we stayed.

The Sofitel hotel was the most disappointing part of our experience

The Sofitel actually ended up being the worst part of our entire trip. The Moorea ATV and snorkeling tours were highlights, as was the day we went around the island via car. I would not recommend the Sofitel to friends and would actively discourage them from staying there. The Sofitel had really, really bad service and underwhelming food. When we ate at other restaurants outside the hotel and other hotels (including the Hilton) we had a much better experience than at the sofitel. Major issues included: (1) we would regularly order something at breakfast (e.g. a capuccino), or dinner service (e.g. a wine) that wouldn't come. We would reorder it and sometimes it would come. This is a basic expectation to feel good about our stay that was not met. (2) at some point we were seated for dinner at a buffet, went to get our food and when we returned to our table they had sat someone else at our table. The service felt like our entire stay was forgotten. (3) There was a manager who walked around and asked people how their stay / dinner was. They came to our table and we had not been able to order food for about 30 min since no one had come to the table. They quickly asked us how our night was and moved on. I would have loved for them to take my order instead of standing there. (4) the food was generally okay quality, but not great. The sofitel was the worst food we ate in all of tahiti. Beyond the food service, our room was extremely dated and had a bunch of lizards in it. I appreciate it's an island, but there were visible gaps in the construction of the building that allowed critters to move in and out of our room. We were attacked by mosquitos multiple times. I would not recommend anyone stay here. The Accor app is useless. I downloaded it as suggested and there was no information about the hotel or activities available in the app. What a waste. I would definitely not recommend the Sofitel to anyone and would suggest the Hilton or another resort.

Beautiful location and coral - perfect to snorkel. Food was good although the breakfast buffet didn’t have a system of tongs that could be used once by clients before being washed like at other high end hotels (there was one tong per buffet section which is not Covid friendly). The overwater bungalows need a bit of renovation. The shower and changing rooms available for those with a Late boat back to tahiti are a plus. You can arrange pick up and drop off from the activity desk for 1500f xpf ($15) for 2 people (a five minute journey) - all were on time. Service was generally good although there were some inconsistencies eg abrupt service at the beach bar on one occasion.

Hotel is located on a beautiful white sand beach. The food was incredible - great selection. During cocktails and dinner had a vocalist with a lovely voice. Loved that they had ping pong and wanted to play bocci ball but they were missing balls. Staff was very accommodating. Wi-Fi was inconsistent.

Being at the Sofitel resort in Moorea was like being in paradise. From staying in the beautiful, pristine, beach front bungalow to snorkeling off the beach, to walking the well maintained grounds , our stay was relaxing and fun! The food was delicious . The meal service for al a carte , however , was not top notch and internet was horrible.

From the moment we arrived, the hotel staff were very friendly, and accommodating. We got on the earliest ferry from Tahiti, and checked in around 7 am, with no issues. The over water bungalow was very clean and spacious, the weather and the water temperature was perfect. My favorite part in the hotel is the expansive lagoon with almost endless coral gardens, it’s almost like being dropped in an aquarium, countless varieties of fish to see, even saw a 6-7 ‘ black tipped shark minding his business and swing out to the break water!! Also while lounging on the beach, my wife and I saw whales breaching the shore on back to back days, incredible sight to see!! The only fault would be the food, not what we initially thought would be available, but none the less, an awesome experience, and based on this trip would prefer Moorea over Bora Bora.

Overall it was a great stay in a beautiful location. The only reason for lower service rating was due to issue with replenishment of drinks in mini fridge in room and the way it was handled by front desk. A minor issue but one that shouldn't happen.

We stayed for a week at the Sofitel resort in Moorea in a Garden View Bungalow. It was one of our best vacations--the resort is beautiful and has more than 1km of pristine beach, great snorkeling right there, free use of snorkeling gear and other water activities. The bungalow was very spacious and comfortable with all the amenities and a great veranda, grounds are beautiful and well maintained, excellent breakfast...highly recommend.

Loved the over the water bungalow. Great value! Staff was all very friendly and helpful. Beds and pillows were very comfortable Disappointed there was no clear kayaks. Also did not feel things going on at the resort were not very well communicated.
