We were met by a very pleasant receptionist who told us our room was ready even though it was 1 hour before the check in time. I had requested a walk in shower and what we actually got was an accessible room but this was absolutely fine with a large bathroom and the toilet was in the bathroom which in the York Novotel they are usually separate (We much prefer a combined bathroom and toilet). The towels had improved since our last stay - nice and fluffy. The only downside was we were asked when we checked in if we would like the room to be serviced daily, we said yes we would but in the 3 nights we stayed the room wasn’t cleaned, bins emptied etc at all and we had to collect tea/coffees etc ourselves from reception. We have stayed at The York Novotel lots of times over the last 20 years and it isn’t a budget hotel and think for the price we paid the room should be looked after. Having said that we did enjoy our stay and will probably return when visiting York.

Easy to find and convenient accessible car parking. Scenic riverside walk to York centre and all its attractions.

We had a very good stay at Novotel York, the hotel was very clean, the atmosphere was friendly, the breakfast spread was very extensive and of good quality. The bar area was very welcoming. Would definitely recommend. Little suggestions for the rooms are, more hooks in the bathroom to hang your wet towels on and a dressing table with a mirror and chair to dry your hair and put your makeup on (but these are very minor points)

Our room was not cleaned and the sheets not changed. The carpet had obviously not been hoovered and around the toilet not mopped. What’s worse is that the bed sheets were not changed. Initially we thought that the hair on the bed was cleaners which is fine, however getting into the bed it smelt like perfume on one half and sweat on the other and the bed sheets looked obviously slept in. We didn’t use the towels for fear of being previously used and the reception staff apologised for the sheets and changed them. We were offered 3x drink vouchers for this inconvenience. We have expectations when you pay for a room that it will be clean with fresh sheets as that is the service you are paying, especially the prices you pay for this hotel. Staff and restaurant were the only saving grace, staff were friendly and we would happily eat at the restaurant without staying at the hotel in the future. We had our month old baby with us and not once were we offered another room or any compensation for this.

If honest, just ok! Been several times over last 4 years and for the price seemed tired.

We had a bedroom refurbishment in 2018 and the rest of the hotel in 2019, but appreciate if you feel it is not as new as recently opened places. The loyalty programme currently gives you an automatic 10% discount on the published selling room rates. Thank you for staying with us and we hope to welcome you back to our hotel very soon. Interesting stay with the hotel heavily populated with snooker players. Ominous start with Matthew Selt complaining after leaving his snooker cue in the room after checking out. Joe Perry queue jumped but was quickly informed to get in line behind. I thought the checking in on laptops, pen and paper was a nod to how we used to manage. We quickly checked in and dropped our bags and went out for the day in York. After a great day in York we returned to the hotel to find our room was cold. #329 was the room and it’s on the end, this could be the reason why it was cold. The WhatsApp number worked and somebody attended to show us the thermostat on the wall. It maxed out at 25 degrees. We were told it was because we had the fan on A for automatic. The largest fan icon was selected, we were cold but appeased after being told it would warm up after 20mins. The superior queen bed was two single beds pushed together. I stood on the end of the bed to see if I could feel the warm air coming through. I could but it was being beating by the cooler jet of air. We waited for a good hour before asking for assistance and a blanket. Lisa the Manager attended and she has had a very thin micro fleece blanket that was welcomed. I did complain about the heating, the two single beds pushed together and the duvet quality not being thick enough. Instead of solving the problem Lisa offered a refund, we refused as we only wanted a warm room. Another duvet or a heater would have been a better option. Obviously this took a shine off the stay and we emptied all our clothes and jackets on the bed to give us the heat we required to have a comfortable nights sleep. Complementary hot chocolates didn’t cut it. It was a two night stay so we decided to leave one of the key cards in the slot to keep the heat in the room during our second day in the great City of York. We returned to the room and it was ok for the second night and we enjoyed the second night far more than we endured the first night. The facilities were good and the breakfast was 10/10. We felt safe but questioned wether we would stay at Novotel again after not being looked after on the first night. I wished we had taken the offer of the refund now, we’ll certainly for that first night. If you want to facilitate this it was £96.30 the cost per night.

Very helpful, friendly staff. COVID compliant which is more than I can say for most of the guests. They weren’t breaking the rules but weren’t following guidance. Not the hotels fault.

Great hotel. Friendly, helpful staff. Good location. Would definitely stay again.

Air con in room not working ,maintenance came fiddled with it and said it was ok.while he was in the room we said its still not working ,he said he would check the main board.nothing more was done .The extractor fan in the toilet was also not working. We had to have the window open all of the time as the room was so hot as we where in room 222 we where above the outside smoking area so had the sound of people talking at all times of day and night we also had a dog barking when it was taken from the hotel at 11pm ,1am and during the evening this not only disturbed us but also my parents in the room next door . All of 5his was reported to reception on several occasions. So overall are stay with you was some what disappointing.

We had a lovely 2 night stay at this hotel. Hotel was well located, rooms were nice, lovely bar area with very friendly attentive staff. Breakfast was very good. The only disappointment was we upgraded to the deluxe superior room which compared to the standard rooms we usually have with Novotel was not at all worth the extra money. The room description is misleading, especially the "mini bar" which was actually 2 bottles of water for the 2 night stay.
