Every piece of carpet and soft furnishing needs thoroughly washing or replacing - there are stains on the carpets and chairs throughout the hotel and the bedroom floor (221) is disgusting. Even the newer looking soft furnishings in the bar need vacuuming along the seat backs. There are cobwebs around the windows. No ventilation working in the public toilets - contravenes COVID recommendations. Beds stored under the main stairs. Stair hand rail filthy. We're meant to be reassured by the cleanliness during the pandemic. Quite the opposite.

I CAN ONLY GIVE YOU A LOW SCORE AS i did not stay in the Hotel. I had cancelled my reservation 2 weeks ago and am still awaiting a refund for the three room that were booked. Having said that my previous stay in the hotel about 3 years ago was satisfactory.

We arrived to check in at 7-45 pm to be told by reception that the restaurant had stopped taking orders as they had " a rush" , said there was not out of hours sandwich menu, and gave us a list of local take aways that deliver to the hotel. I've never seen that before in a hotel in my life! We went in to the fairly empty restaurant and after asking nicely the lady in the restaurant asked the chef and we were allowed to order a meal. I found the whole episode extraordinary - I've just never seen this before in a hotel - an attempt at dreadful service. Having said this we did get a meal but only just and only by being forceful, the rooms were nice, and the breakfast OK.

I stayed overnight with my two kids for a trip to London the next day. The hotel was conveniently placed and the staff kind and helpful. The hotel itself wasn't quite up to the normal Novotel standard, the restaurant and breakfast offering had little choice and wasn't the usual excellent quality. This perhaps reflects reopening after covid. However the staff did their best to be flexible and provide a good experience.

Room was a good size, some stains/marks on walls, furniture, toilet. Was charged additional £20 for early check in which we were not advised about in advance. Also if rooms are available then you should allow people to check in at no extra cost as there is no extra cost to the hotel! Breakfast was ok, staff were friendly and helpful.

Great room. Lovely bathroom. Good breakfast. Two small comments: I had something delivered to reception to collect upon arrival and reception was aware. When I checked in they had mistakingly given it to another guest who shares my first name … the issue was solved, but it shouldn’t really have happened in the first place. I paid cash upon check in and was told I would get a receipt upon departure. Upon departure I was told I just needed to drop key in box so no receipt …. No problem, but if for some reason hotel thought I hadn’t settled my bill, I would have had no proof…

Although the system was down when we booked in - the receptionist managed with paper - and with a smile! Meal in the evening was good - not outstanding - however service was prompt and with a smile. Checking out was painless and well done. Good to be back!

The staff were friendly and eveything was to a good standard however the carpets And wall papers/paint made the whole hotel feel dated, also slightly unclean. If the carpets were new I would defo come back again.

Stayed here for a couple of nights on a business trip (not for the first time). The Good: Easy parking and well located for the motorway. The staff I met were all helpful and friendly (not the chefs!). Wifi was good in my room. The Bad: Short restaurant hours and when I arrived at the bar at exactly 2046 in the evening I was told the kitchen had closed exactly a minute earlier. I asked if there was anything the chef could make / heat that was quick but the response was 'Kitchen is closed'. This lack of flexibility does not encourage me to return despite being a loyal ALL Accor Diamond member. The Ugly: The Novotel Stevenage is renowned as having the worst mattresses of all the local hotels (which is why most of us use the Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express or Premier Inn in Stevenage) BUT my mattress was like a bag of bones. No mattress protector, padding or the like, just a surface like the Alps that for most people would be unacceptable (yup - it WAS unacceptable and I told them so on both days). The telephone in my room did not work (room 305) and the shower flooded out of the cubicle onto the floor after about 2 minutes of running the water - minor issues compared to the mattress. Summary: a poor hotel that could do with a lick of paint / new carpets (and the sole lift needs a good scrub / deep clean). I cannot comment on the food as alas I was forced to use Just Eat for my evening meal - but the breakfast was bland and just satisfactory. Location is great if you want to just drive off the motorway but if you do not have a car or want to visit anywhere in the town it is not so good. Compared to most Novotel hotels in the UK this is a very tatty and well below average example and when compared to the other chain hotels in the town it ranks poorly. Sorry guys but this is a shabby / poor hotel and I am sure the hotel management staff know it!

Staff great but my room had not been cleaned as was very diety in bathroom anfd floor covered in buts if splintered wood and large lumps of black fluff

Reception staff wonderful and helpful.My room was not very clean at all.Bathroom shower wall covered in old soap marks which I saw when getting in shower,toilet wall had brown marks up walls and the carpet had wooden splinters on floor by the to desk so could have stood on it and large amounts of black fluff on floor. Have stayed here before and it was a good expereience but sadly not this time. Just needs a bit more care with the cleaning if the rooms.Thank you

We felt the hot was tired and old looking, many stains on carpets etc, in the bedroom 211 i took photos of lots of mould in the shower area i mean more than i ever seen before, I showed reception they told me to email photos and i did still not had a reply, the dinner food was only very standard the sofa we had to sit on at dinner was badly stained and to low for the table we asked if we could move to the 10 empty tables and was told that area is closed, the breakfast was even less special half the food was missing second day coffee machine broken, no orange juice, had no glasses out had to ask for water and apple juice, there was lots of litter in the car park, the staff were friendly but clearly not trained in there rolls. I was very surprised at how bad a chain like Novatel could be. I am sure the excuse is new staff due to covid but there is no excuse for the very disgusting shower room there was a long black hair in the tray and some stains in the toilet bowl. real desktop to work, but a business chair should be there to work longer without backpain cleaning to improve, desktop table stains not cleaned lighting at head bed noisy making a lot of cracks poor breakfast with orange juice left and odd black coffee, coffee machine to maintain

Our stay was fine bit disappointed tho I asked for towels at reception and they said we will leave in your room so we got 1 large towel and 1 small towel between a couple surly they must know how many people in room

This hotel can only be described as a little worn. No lunch or bar service until 4pm Room ok but I personally failed to get into the shower, needed a ladder as the side was so high. Breakfast just ok but staff failed to keep up with demand. Had to wait for things to be topped up all the time. Very convenient location

The room was ok, but the food was awful. I ordered a steak only to told 10 mins later you had run out of steak. So, I ordered the burger. Not very nice & the chips were the worst chips I have ever had in a hotel. I usually stay in the Holiday Inn when visiting Stevenage with work. Thought I would try you for a change & wished I had not.
