« Poor service »

Our experience was poor. We were ignored by bar staff whilst there were 3 of them standing at the till. No-one acknowledged us for about 6 or 7 minutes until someone else came from the back. We noticed everyone else was given snacks with their drinks and we weren’t given any. After returning to our room after dinner we found it to be very warm and the air conditioning did not work. We went to reception to report the issue and the Receptionist came to the room to investigate. She couldn’t get it to work and called the manager. He came up and also couldn’t get it to work. He said he would give us another room but the air conditioning did not work their either. The Receptionist told us the air conditioning was turned off in the hotel. We were then given a suite where the air conditioning did not work and we had to leave the windows open all night to get the room cooler. We had travelled all day and purposefully booked a nice hotel so we could have some comfort after a long day. Unfortunately our stay was extremely poor and very disappointing. Air conditioning should never be switched off as it controls the cooling and heating.

Arrived to find that having booked a double with double sofabed that such a room doesn't exist and given 2 single put up beds - false advertising and very disappointed. Then find that the double bed was made with 2 single sheets across the bed and the receptionist was the only person available and couldn't find a double undersheet.

« Great hotel and location. »

Excellent hotel and location, but let down by an overpriced and questionable food quality at the restaurant. Restaurant service great through. I have stayed at the hotel several times over the years while travelling. Some years ago food was better. I really think that food now is too expensive for what it is. Fish ships which may even be frozen ones?

Really impressed with efficiency and support from confidently bi-lingual reception staff. Comfortable and stylish rooms. Only area of question was the possibly overpriced restaurant and scrum at breakfast.

« Stop over - nice room but stupendously expensive food and drink »

Check in was very confused - rooms swapped, room key did not work, had to go back to reception to correct this. Very poor service in the bar and restaurant, long delays in service, groups of staff talking to each other while guests were left waiting. No obvious leadership or service management. Drinks are so expensive it is almost criminal - 12 euro for an American Pale Ale you wait 30 minutes for. Most people eat at the Italian restaurant next door which is under half the price and very good.

« Price quality not as we expected »

The facilities in the hotel are nice, especially for a stay with children. However we were very disappointed that we were not allowed to use 1 room as a family of 5 (including 1 baby) and had to book to separate rooms. The hotel said this was for safety reasons but we have never experienced this anywhere else! Quality and availability definitely not worth the 17€ which we paid.

A relaxing hotel with modern interior, nice outdoor pool and good rooms. Decent breakfast and on the whole a super hotel where we could relax and use as a good stop over from Birmingham to Cap D’agde on the Med.

« Okay hotel on our trip to the south »

When we arrived at 16:30, the room wasn’t ready yet. The staff was nice enough to provide towel to take swim, but we’d rather gone to our room. Since the hotel was fully booked, there was no table at the restaurant available until very late in the evening (too late for our family). There’s really nothing in the neighborhood of the hotel (like restaurants, supermarkets etc).

The room and staff were great, we have stayed here three times and are very pleased with the hotel. Breakfast needs improving, the serving area is not very well designed so everyone is always getting in the way of each other, it is hard to find the food you want, and some runs out and is not replenished quickly.

« Noted numerous bedbug bites the day after staying in room 234 »

Third time we stayed in this hotel as stop-over. Efficient check-in. Nice swimming pool for the kids. On first view clean room although we did not do any special checks. Next morning in the car noticed multiple bites on my arms and upper body. By their pattern (rows, combination of three) most likely bed bugs. Brought our own pillows to the hotel and travel bags. After spending the first night in our tent (with our pillows and travel bags) I got bitten more. Turned out we most likely - for legal reasons I will not accuse Novotel directly - took bed bugs in our pillows and/our travel bags. The next days we washed and sprayed poison like crazy but bed bugs were already in our tent. Note that bed bugs are internal insects and not outdoor insects therefor raising the suspicion towards Novotel. Eventually after trying to get rid of the bed bugs for a number of days we decided to throw away the tent. Meanwhile we had already disposed ourselves of pillows and sleeping bags. We bought a new tent that we put up on a new camp site to prevent recontamination. And brought our remaining camping gear and clothes into our new tent after extensive cleaning and checking. So far we seem to be bug free in the new tent, but there might be a second wave when any undetected eggs may hatch... So far this incident has cost us over €1000,- (new tent, new camp site, sleeping bags, pillows, poison, laundry, plastic bags) and a week of high stress with 2 small kids of 5 and 6 around. Novotel St Jean de Braye was contacted but we received the following reply. Note that that at least 1 earlier review refers to exactly the same room for being bitten. This does not seem to be a coincidence to us. We are extremely disapointed by the - in our perspective very lame and inhospitable - response of the GM. See below the mail thread so far; Hello Mr. XYZ, Your description of the check you did on the room seem highly superficial and definitely not as prescribed by pest control professionals as you are probably aware of as manager of this hotel. Bedbugs are a very serious pest that would require much more thorough inquiry than what you described. Of course you reacted as expected. No hotel manager would ever admit having bedbugs in his hotel. However, looking 5 minutes through the reviews at your hotel I find this review. The same room! Coincidence? I guess not. I will at least warn people of room 234 in your hotel of the risk they are running on getting in touch with bedbugs on different review sites and see what further steps I can take when I’m back home. Right now this sleeping one night in room 234 has cost me over €1000,- and 1 week of cleaning and relocating. I’m now with my family in a new tent with everything in sealed plastic bags and bed bug traps in my tent, car, roof case and little trailer. After verification with our receptionists, I am surprised that you did not relate us those facts upon your departure on the 20/07/19 so we could have simply notified those bites. Although we never had this kind of issue, I personally checked the room 234 with my Front office manager and housekeeping manager. No blood mark has been detected in the room, therefore we confirm the absence of any kind of bug. Besides, customers that arrived ahead of you and customers that arrived after you in the same room did not address us any remark about this very issue. This does definitely not match to bedbugs. Lovely hotel, good location, very clean. Rooms and beds were comfortable. The pool was wonderful after a long drive. But getting an evening meal was a challenge. Finally, when at last we managed to get something to eat (very late) the food was quite good but poor value for money.

We stayed for one night on our way to south France.Good location,nice room,good service.Breakfast and Dinner were very good.Free parking ,sweeming pool and a nice garden gives you the relax after a long day of driving.

« Almost perfect »

Overall , very good. Rooms perfect, cleanliness spot on, restaurant ok, bar a little too pricey, even for a hotel. Most of the hotel staff however, could do with attending a people-management course. This includes the cleaners!
