« Nice stay after nightmare booking experience »

I tried to make a booking through Tesco Clubcard vouchers, and the experience was an absolute nightmare. I won’t go into the details again as I’ve already done so through a complaint to the Novotel Central Reservations team. The response to my complaint from the central team was equally appalling. However, the manager of the hotel that I was eventually able to book, a gentleman called Arif at the Novotel Birmingham Central hotel on Broad Street, was really excellent in going a long way to turning my experience around. His communication was excellent, and he made a real effort to apologise for the awful booking experience, and to look after us during our stay. You should know what an asset he and his staff at the hotel are to Novotel, the only ones in the process who truly seemed to care for the customers’ experience.

« Good location near the city centre. Would stay again. »

The hotel is well located for the city centre which is about 10 mins walk away. The rooms are ok although starting to look a little tired. The room was a little cool unless the heating was left on all day when out. It's probably fine if just coming back to sleep but not great if trying to get some work done in the evening. A bonus is having a fridge in the room.

Perfect area to visit with children, close to Legoland and Aquarium but if you’re coming without children there are so many restaurants and pubs nearby.

« Not to usual standards »

I have stayed here a couple of times, but wouldn't put it on my list of favourites. The front desk service is very polite, the rooms were clean and well appointed and there is an underground car park. The "upgrade" to a superior room is not worth the price - unless you desperately need a dressing gown and coffee pod machine for the night. The rooms all appear to be the same size - small. The restaurant is impersonal - I've been in better Ibis facilities - and the bar is no better. Again, the service was good, but the hotel does not feel inviting. I should also add that the car park only has stair access, so tough luck if you are disabled or have heavy luggage. Even if the lift did go down to the basement there is a 6" to 8" step between the car park and the stairwell. To cap it all, 2 weeks later I am still waiting for them to provide me with correct invoices.

« Perfect city break »

Fantastic location, walking distance to arena and amongst an abundance of bars and restaurants, parking was no problem (researches tips online for where to find it etc), room very clean and comfy, breakfast was great. We stayed with our two children for one night and had a great weekend!

« Excellent for a quick visit »

I only stayed for one night and didn't have breakfast but the staff were excellent, checking in and out was very quick and easy and the rooms were clean and comfortable. It is very conveniently located just around the corner from the Arena which is ideal as I didn't want to walk across Birmingham alone at night to find a different hotel.

« Not the usual Novotel experience »

The thumping music that was keeping me awake just after 9pm in my third floor room was being made not by another guest but by the hotel manager and staff. I phoned reception on my mobile after three failed attempts to raise reception on my room phone and was told that I could expect the music to carry on until 1am (this is a Sunday evening). I was told it was a 25 year anniversary party for the hotel, I didn’t care what the party was for. If I’d have been told that very loud music which was clearly audible on the third floor was taking place then I’d have booked a different hotel - The hotel manager (Asif?) clearly knew this would be the case and chose not to inform guests. I later went to reception and was moved to a different room on the sixth floor- music still just about audible! This Novotel failed miserably that night.
