Check-in frustrating, but stay was pretty good

I arrived at check-in approx 14:30, 3(?) families were checking in via one person which held the attention for the one lady on reception. Someone else flitted in and out and then away from the desk. I stood behind and to the left of the 'family' checking in - in line with the ALL Accor Priority check-in sign on the desk (I am a Silver member). Eventually another lady came out to help serve, she dealt with a guy to the right of the families checking in. I had actually come in before him, but then promptly walked out to park the car correctly before checking in (as concerned it would take awhile). After he was served, a young family with a baby who had eventually queued behind the guy that was just served, were also served. I'm still patiently waiting further over on the left. I see more staff members walking in/out of the back office and sometimes congregating behind the reception desk and then walking off. I have checked in online, so literally just need to collect my key card and was not in a screaming hurry, but had further travel to do that afternoon so didn't want to waste time unnecessarily. I see another staff member arrive for his shift. He came out a few minutes later to login to the computer (which too a little doing due to technical issues), the lady still tied up checking the families in did actually (FINALLY) say something to this colleague and pointed me out. He promptly saw me and answered my questions that I had and I could then make for my room. The safe in the room needed a service, so would not lock (I flagged this at check-out, it would have been useful to use but in the end locked my suitcase). I booked this Novotel as opposed to the Scheidam Novotel as this was an ALL Safe labelled hotel. It seemed ok, hand sanitiser and signs up in reception and by lifts, nothing in the gym except disinfectant spray to wipe machines down (forgot to mention no hand sanitiser in gym to staff though. Staff in general were friendly, just inattentive at check-in (i.e. lacking situational awareness). Hotel was fine, a little dated but neat and tidy.

The rooms are not up to date. On the carpet there are many stains, and this feels dirty. Broken, rips in curtain, fridge looks broken. So please pay attention to this, it feels like a room in a one or 2 star rated hotel, while you are a 4 star rated hotel.

Staff were brilliant, friendly and cooperative. The room was comfortable and clean. The only faults were that the Budweiser that is sold is the worst beer in the world and after lengthy trips the food can become very repetitive but other than that a very nice stay and I look forward to seeing you again.

Room was good with large beds TV needs to be upgraded. Some days room was not cleaned. Breakfast was good with lots of variety. Omlette was not served on few days. No drinking was available. Water had to be boiled in kettle. Last few days, only two towels were given. Elevator was good.

One disappointing journey

Unfortunately, this was the most disappointing visit to Novotel so far for us. At 9 p.m. with a child and online check in we had to wait more than 2 hours to be accommodated. While we were waiting at the restaurant, they called us from the reception asking if we would arrive that evening? Communication with the ladies at the reception was disgusting and aggressive. Novotel has been our preferred hotel chain until now.

Nice Hotel with parking and restaurant. The hotel offers a delicious daily breakfast, lunch and dinner in the restaurant and a bar for refreshments. Novotel Rotterdam is easily reachable thanks to its convenient location next to the A16/E19 highway exit 25, and public transport options within walking distance. The Novotel is easy to reach by car and public transport.
