I got charged 5 nights plus £120 for what was really only 2 nights!

Despite telling staff (and providing evidence on the day) that I had cancelled all other rooms many weeks before, I have returned home to find my credit card has been charged over £500 for what should have been a cost of just £120. I have since complained to the hotel and no reply to date.

Paid over £80 to stay in a hotel where the curtains which I did not notice until the next morning has what looked like sick down them. Sorry but I won’t be staying there again

Checked in online with credit card details etc but then had to do it all again at the hotel. Never managed a drink at bar as no staff to serve

As usual, we had a lovely evening after attending the football. Check in was a lot later than it should have been, and staff were clearly struggling to cope at breakfast. We put both of these down to difficulties in obtaining staff following covid closures, so neither affected our enjoyment. Will most definitely be back. Our favorite Wolverhampton central hotel.

Most importantly, when we arrived our room wasn’t quite ready. However, the receptionist (Stephanie) apologised profusely and went to check the readiness and speed up the process. Having then realised that I am disabled she arranged for us to have a differentork room - fully equipped for safety. She personally checked the room and provided towels , extra pillows etc. She worked extremely hard to ensure our comfort and safety.

Substandard room cleanliness and hygiene

I was checked in to room 106. On entering the room I was greeted by a foul smell I can only describe as sewage. The bathroom contained large amounts of mould around the bath and seals, there were stains on the furniture and soft furnishings within the room, and both the carpet and bedding also contained stains that I would not like to guess what from. The windows and curtains were dingy and appeared uncleaned for months. As a frequent business traveller this is not the basic standard of cleanliness and hygiene from a reputable chain, especially in current pandemic conditions. I have photos available of the condition of the room if you would like to see. It was that bad I had to request a room change. Then, when trying to order food (I'd had a 4am start so was ready for an early dinner) I was told nothing was being served until 6pm. Too many numerous other niggles happened to make my stay a most unenjoyable one, and suffice to say I will not be returning!

Although we checked in online we still had to wait a good 10 minutes before we could get our room key as there was only 1 person at reception, however our overall stay was good. Lovely and clean but probably needs a bit of a facelift now, as we’ve been coming to this hotel for over 10 years now and have noticed certain things that need a bit of tlc like the light switches, which although clean, are showing signs of wear. The breakfast was good but we had to wait for some things both days, however not a complaint as we understand that after the various lockdowns people are only just getting back to some sort of normality.

Rooms are tired, in need of a refurb No air conditioning, which is fine when it is not warm but the rooms do retain the heat especially as windows do not fully open This makes them uncomfortable at night Breakfast buffy style and not the best

I have stayed at the Novotel Wolverhampton over many years on family visits, the last time in December 2019. before the lock-down. This time was different due to Covid 19. The service in the bar and restaurant was good. The check-in was also good with temperature checked, the track and trace completed it was a walk in booking which was fine even though I could not remember my card PIN. The room was good no upgrade as no accessories in the room only paper cups, no Nespresso machine or bathrobes but the rates were much lower and understandable. Dinner was OK the menu was reduced the mains were a reduced choice, but the burger and chips were too many. Breakfast was a buffet served by the chef, who had to open the milk cartons. It all took a bit of getting used to. Check out was OK, except the dinner bill was not itemsided but was given a menu to cross check. It was good to be back.
