POSITIVE: The location of the Mondial was excellent. I was a first time business traveler to Cologne, and was happy with proximity to social venues, food, etc., and in the scenic/historic center of the city. Also -- compliments/high marks for the breakfast venue, the food and especially the team. The staff there was excellent -- very attentive and very friendly. PROBLEMS: The hotel air conditioning was out for 2 of the 4 nights I was at the hotel; and the hotel bar/restaurant was also not open due to either A/C or labor issues. The frustrating thing about the air conditioning issue was that except for the front desk telling me about it when I checked in -- there were no other communication to guests (such as a note from management in our rooms, etc.) on the status of the repairs, etc. Some communication would have helped -- example: reminding people they could call for a fan. Confirming how to open windows widely (some of our party weren't aware how to open their windows properly, as they were from the U.S., where this model isn't used); and an update on timing. In the absence of communication, people felt uninformed, etc. Also -- it didn't seem like the housekeeping routines were adjusted to accommodate that people were sleeping in warm rooms. Finding a heavy, large feather duvet on the bed, with no light sheet alternative, was strange. I finally pulled off the duvet cover and used it as a sheet on the warm nights.

The hotel didn't have Air conditioner for the first night. They still took the entire amount for the stay and did not provide any discounts, which they should have for not providing complete service. The room card was not working and I had to go back down and have the receptionist come over to make it work. So these were so unpleasant experiences. Also there was no toiletries kit in the bathroom. I paid a lot of for very little service. The restaurant in the hotel was closed throughout my stay.

broken AC

Bugs Families - Confirmed reviews ALL

The AC is broken, and has been for over a month. We were told this at check-in. I reserved the room two months in advance. You should email people with existing reservations and give them the option to rebook at a different hotel. I got a bad night's sleep due to noise and temperature issues, having to open and close windows all night. The safe in the room didn't work (low battery.) The door lock also didn't work, and we had to get another card. The cafe downstairs is closed and has been for over a year. Overall, completely unacceptable for a hotel that cost 350 euro for one weeknight stay.

We were so disappointed as the Air condition didn´t work and we only got 9 € / day discount because of that.
