Excellent - clean, kind, with extras, very nice. Great evening tea! The only thing missing which is important for business guests is business center for making copies and printing. We had to have the front desk print for us, which was slightly inconvenient because we had to go through them and couldn't do it on our own.

Air of calm in the hotel is very important as guests have pressure for work etc away and need the hotel to be calm, relaxing and quiet. Good service adds to this experience and all staff, including the cleaning staff I met, are polite and professional.

I sayed for three nights on business prolonging by an extra night on a separate booking with my family before leaving for a holiday. The hotel helpfully arranged that I kept the same room over the two bookings. The staff are extremely helpful, even for a hotel in this category and the room was spacious and very quiet, with a good sized desk and a reasonable lamp over the desk (the addition of a small desk lamp for working on documents would be better still). The renovated rooms make good use of space by having sliding doors for the bathroom and lavatory; some maintenance is needed here as the bathroom doors were not anchored at the floor, which made them wobble, but this is a small detail. The bed was vast and extremely comfortable.

Very nice welcome, not so nice overall experience

On check in I was greeted by a very professional staff member, I was upgraded to a magnifique room, as per my request and champagne and slightly over the top rose petals were waiting for me for St-Valentine which was a nice touch (although the whole setup was made as if I was coming with a female lover (?!) although I made a the reservation for one, and not everyone is straight, including me). The next day, I went out around 11 for a few hours and when I came back at 15h15, my room hadn’t been made. The cleaner arrived immediately running (she probably saw me arrive), so I decided to go out again while the room was being cleaned. I came back 1,5 hour later, and to my surprise, my room door was open, a vacuum cleaner was in the middle of the room and no one was around. I called reception, but after 30 seconds the cleaner came running again, apologizing. I could understand all this if the hotel was full but I highly doubt this was the case. When I checked out the next day, I was asked to pay for breakfast, although I had not had one, to which the clerk answered « oh ok » (?!) and when I asked for a parking ticket to get out of the parking, I was asked to pay 30 EUR for 2 days of parking, which has never happened during any of my previous visited to Novotel and Sofitel Kirchberg, so I was a bit surprised. I don’t mind paying for parking of course when it is the rule, but as I said, this has never happened before and I had stayed next door at Novotel 2 days prior and no one asked me to pay anything for parking. So I had the very unpleasant feeling of being billed « à la tête du client » which is extremely disappointing. So all in all, considering the unpleasantness overall outweighed the nice touches, I don’t think I will ever be back in this hotel.

Disengaged staff

Despite the airy rooms, staff seemed entirely disengaged throughout my stay. No recognition was made of Diamond status, no upgrade was offered or even available, no late checkout was available either (not even a 2-hour late checkout, which was all I needed, really). After the first night, shower gel was not replenished and the only cleaning of the room that seemed to have been done was to change a hand towel and pull up the bed's duvet, the rest looked like it hadn't been touched. On top of this, I still don't understand why Sofitel hotels (at least those in Washington DC, Paris, Brussels and Luxembourg) have no food offerings after around 10.30pm, and why room service after 11pm is limited to a handful of cold dishes (like e.g. smoked salmon and carpaccio). For a 5-star hotel to have no warm food whatsoever (other than a soup and a toaster-heated "pizza") is beyond my comprehension – if your flight lands any time after 10pm (which isn't that late), you basically have nothing to eat. I'm not asking for a sole meunière or a beef stew, but at least a sandwich or a burger.

In addition, it is uncommon, that you have not received the right information regarding our night room service because on our menu we have hot dishes such as rice with curry for example.
