« Good location in the heart of city »

Hotel is located on famous Nanjing Road and just in 15 minutes by walk from the Bund. The stuff is very friendly, polite and ready to help. My room was very clean and comfortable. Separate word is about bed - really very king size with great Choice of pillow ). Breakfast is very good and wide choice of dishes both Chinese and western. There is also restaurants in hotel. I was visiting Chinese one. Even there were not much people the food was very good and delicious.

Sofitel Shanghai excellent value The location is perfect the hop on hop off is at your door nearly as to the train station The suit room for a few extra $$$ is a must it allows you to club room with light snacks and drinks and also a must is their breakfast We could not fault and we are normally Fairmont clients only Very surprised on service and western style It is suitable for all ages and is a very well established hi rise situated in the Mall walking distance to McDonald’s KFC The staff are also great at English 10 out of 10 Great very clean city

Family visit to Shanghai was very nice and we were extremely satisfied with Sofitel Hyland both as service and location. Service and cleanliness are in excellent level. Breakfast was excellent with a lot of variety. Location in pedestrian street almost heart of Shanghai is very convenient.

« Top brand, not reflected by this hotel »

I have been staying 3 days in this hotel: I am happy about the upgrade provided but the room is really old and needs refresh. We also asked a drop off service to the airport: this service has been very poor - driver smoking in the car and lost his way more than once. Response time of the hotel to official e mail addresss very slow. These are things that shall not happen in a Sofitel brand.

I arrived at the hotel and noticed a underwear in the bathroom from the previous stay (I am a single guy and would not have a girl's underwear otherwise...). Not sure how it happened but this obviously shows that the hotel staff needs to be more attentive. Otherwise, the hotel is at a good location although relatively old with small rooms.

« SERVICE BELOW EXPECTATION »

At Check-In: Front-desk staff at priority welcome counter weren’t attentive. They seemed to be overwhelmed with administrative works as opposed to being ready to serve walk-in guest. With me standing in-front of them, they continued their work as though I was invisible. Eventually, I gave up on them and used the regular counter. The staff that served me was pleasant and the experience was great. However, I believe that such service standards should not be displayed. If the priority welcome counter isn’t meant to receive deserving guest, please remove the counter. I won’t mind using the regular counter; but certainly not after being ignored by the staff there. Definitely a poor impression during check-in. Housekeeping: Housekeeping team certainly did a good job to ensure cleanliness and comfort throughout my stay. Greatly appreciate their hospitality. At Check-Out: Check-out process was smooth, staff was very helpful in answering to my queries on transport modes to the airport. Priority welcome counter was unattended when checking-out; but thankfully, the other counters weren’t occupied. Seriously don’t understand the purpose of setting up a priority counter when it is always not ready. Others Comments: Concierge staff (particularly staff stationed at level 1 lift lobby which leads to guest rooms) could possibly be better trained. Their behaviour was absolutely horrible (FYI: I usually return to my room late at night) – there was one night where I saw a staff busy plucking hair from his nostrils using the reflective surface on the lift door, whilst another night, I saw staff busy playing mobile games and communicating happily on the hotel’s phone at the lobby while laying comfortable on the chair. Can’t see the purpose of stationing such staff there apart from them being an eye sore. In general, I will expect much more from a Sofitel Hotel Chain – poised to be a 4* hotel. Such service standards are certainly beneath acceptable. Unlikely to stay in Sofitel Shanghai again till these matters are ironed out. There are certainly better hotels under Accor Group in Shanghai.

The room was very comfortable and spacious; everything was very clean and in good working order. The hotel is very well-located and easy to find from the East Nanjing Road metro station (just 1.5 short blocks from exit 4). The internet is fast and easy to connect to.

« Amazing location, stuffy room »

The location is absolutely fantastic! Our room was on the 23rd floor and the view was amazing. However, we found our room to be too hot and stuffy. The staff were friendly and helpful when we approached them with our concern about not being able to sleep at night because it was too hot. They told us that the hotel is centrally controlled and that the air conditioning was turned off because it was winter. They offered us a fan for our room and to crack open the window. While the fan helped with cooling our room, we found it too loud to have a proper night’s sleep. We would probably only book this Sofitel in the summer in the future when the air conditioning is active.

All our rooms were on the same floor. Breakfast were enjoyable and varied for everyone, except that our table was slow in clearing the plates. Close to shops & easy access to metro. Security staff were attentive and courteous. Overall very good experience.
