Top notch (but it's very pricey). Old school hotel and it looks very fancy. Views of the river pretty banging. Good for writing novels I hear. Many boats visible with sails. Hadra and Asran were great waiters.

Romantic time 🥰

This is a great hotel, unfortunately we stayed in the other hotel but we got some drinks in the promenade cafe at Cataract hotel, firstly the sunset over the Nile was magical and romantic, to be honest, all the staff were so welcoming and helpful, but we remember two people in particular who helped us very much, Hydra who was very helpful and very welcoming in the cafe, and a young lady named Roma had a beautiful and natural smile and gave us the tickets with a warm welcome, the ticket was for 300 pounds and we use it in drinks, my friend and I enjoyed a lot, we recommend this hotel very much and next time in Aswan we will definitely book this hotel

Unjustly denied service at one restaurant, defiled and violated in the second restaurant.

I must have stayed in hundreds of hotels in over 50 years of travel, and this is the WORST I have ever been treated by a hotel. We wanted to dine in the top tier restaurant, the 1902. I was told that a jacket was required for men, although that requirement was not posted on the hotel internet website. I did not pack a jacket because I did not foresee the need for one in Egypt, but the hotel did offer to provide one to me. When I showed up for my dinner reservation, I was immediately told that my shoes were unacceptable. The were $100 Kuru shoes that are advertised to alleviate foot pain. Nonetheless I was told that they were "too sporty" even though there is no claim by the manufacturer that they are athletic shoes or "sneakers." (Note that I had reserved those clean shoes for use in hotels, and they had never been worn on the filthy streets of Cairo and other garbage laden streets of Egypt, like some of the other "acceptable" shoes might have been.) On top of that, apart from walking to and from the table, my shoes would have been completely out of sight and never have offended of the guests. I was highly insulted by this rejection, and immediately left went to the lower tier restaurant off the lobby. Being a vegetarian for over 40 years, I ordered "grilled vegetables" by pointing to the item on the menu. In response the waiter mumbled something which I did not understand, and again I pointed to "grilled vegetables" and again he mumbled something unintelligible. A third time I pointed to "grilled vegetables" and said the words "grilled vegetables" , and he finally walked off with the order from the four diners at our table. When the food was brought, I was presented with a plate that had a few obvious vegetables, and what appeared to be large slices of roasted eggplant. I proceeded to eat the meal and I thought that the eggplant was of a tough consistency and had an unusual and unpleasant taste. I figured that the kitchen had done a real bad job of preparing the eggplant, but I made no complaint. When the bill was presented it showed "liver" for 395 Egyptian pounds instead of "grilled vegetables" for 195 Egyptian pounds. I was sickened and outraged. I felt defiled and violated. I immediately informed the waiter of the error, and the response was to correct the bill to charge me 195 pounds for the entree that I had not ordered instead of the 395 pounds for the entre that I had been mistakenly given. After leaving the restaurant, I told the reception desk what had happened, and he asked me to wait while he informed the food and beverage director. I waited in the bar for several minutes and the food and beverage manager came in, apologized profusely, and offered me lunch on the following day. I declined because I already had a prepaid buffet breakfast and was scheduled to leave the hotel by 12:30 p.m. the following day. He did not offer to pay for my one drink that I had while I waited for him to arrive. The next morning at breakfast I was sought out be the hotel's customer services representative, who again apologized profusely and asked if I had taken ill because of the incident. Fortunately, I had not become physically ill from eating meat (which I had not done in over forty years - hence the reason I could not identify the taste of liver), but I was still mentally upset at having been defiled and violated. She refunded me the entire $73 cost total for both my meal and my wife's meal, which was a nice gesture, but no financial compensation could have been enough for the horrible dining experience. I am financially well enough off that I don't need the $73 that bad. Had I not unjustly been ejected from the 1902 restaurant, I may not have been attended by a waiter who was so patently inept. Their apologies and compensation aside, I have never been treated so badly by a hotel.

Dear Valued Guest, Bonjour We are sincerely grateful for the time you spent to share your comments on your recent stay in our Sofitel Legend Old Cataract hotel. We can see that the main reason of your dissatisfaction is because you were not able to dine in at our 1902 restaurant due to the dress code issue which you did not respect as it is already mentioned to you while you were making the reservation and it is already mentioned at our restaurant entrance and all our guests are respecting that. In regards to your dinner experience in our Saraya restaurant, Please accept our sincere apology about the inconvenience that happened with the bill as it came mistakenly with Liver not grilled vegetables. our employee changed the bill on spot and we "Myself & our Food and Beverage Manager" met you and assured you that what you ate was vegetables not Liver and the mistake was just with the bill and we refunded the bill to apology for the situation. Thank you again for your visit and your review. Sincerely, Mariam Abdulrahman Assistant Guest Experience Manager
