My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the Old Cataract Aswan in April 2021. We did not have any expectations, but the hotel was beyond our imagination. This was the most luxurious which we have ever had the opportunity to stay in, ever, worldwide. The attention to detail was unprecedented. The room was simply amazing, overlooking the Nile. In fact, we canceled a day of historical Egyptian tours to simply experience the hotel for as much time as possible. We also had dinner at the 1902 restaurant which took our experience to another level. The food, the service, and the room was simply breathtaking. It’s hard to write a review of a hotel because there are so many variables involved. I will say this again, we have never stayed in a finer establishment with so much history, integrity, honor and service. We are already planning a return trip so the rest of our family can appreciate what we were lucky enough to enjoy. Take the 5 pm hotel tour, it’s essential to appreciate the history. Have dinner at all restaurants. Explore and enjoy the views. You will not regret it. One final note, this was our second honeymoon and the hotel took extra steps in the room which made our visit life-changing. My sincerest thanks to the staff and the management team at the hotel.

Very relaxing stay, with astounding view from our bedroom over the Nile. Welcoming and efficient service. Only disadvantage was the food, at the terrasse restaurant, which was satisfactory only, but not at the level of such a five-star property.

Location, location, location... in itself the location of the Old Cataract would justify staying there. But the excellent service n overall quality makes it our second-best experience in Egypt (after the Winter Palace, which has kept the old-world charm that the renovations at the Old Cataract have anihilated).

I’m not usually one to invest in a hotel stay, as we normally don’t so no much time at a hotel, but we decided to splurge for the end of our upper Egypt tour for the historical significance of this hotel and are we glad we did! The grounds, room, view from our balcony, lounge, pool, everywhere were magical! Even a brief tour of the grounds and the famous guests and original pieces were fascinating. Our only regret was being unable to see the Agatha Christie and Winston Churchill suites due to occupancy. Aswan is my favorite place in Egypt and being able to see some of the beauty and ruins from this hotel were magnificent.

The staff at the hotel were very friendly and courteous. My beautiful room was spacious and the view overlooking the Nile was spectacular. One little complaint was that the mini-bar was not filled and we were told it would be. I stayed in Ste 2204 and my travel companion was in 2202. Neither of our mini-bars were stocked. That said, all my meals (in-room dining as well as the restaurants) were delicious and the presentations stellar. I hope to visit again and stay longer!

I came to Old Cataract a long time ago and I always told myself that if I have the opportunity to pass by Aswan again, I must stop and stay for a few days in your hotel again because this is the best hotel in Egypt ! We visited this beautiful historical hotel. We enjoyed everything. Very beautiful room with beautiful Nile view. Quite and comfortable room, with beautiful balcony. Tasty breakfast on open terrace and great French restaurant. You feel like in Orient Palace. Staff is very friendly. And all measures for Covid are in place. There is no evening live piano music, but is missed.

Sadly. There were too many things that outweighed the quality of other things. We were both very disappointed with what should be good quality. But in fact was very poor, service and value for money. 1902 menu was poor. No menus in the rooms, they were using QR codes which was great, but waited 1 hour for a code to arrive for a menu. Phones not working in a signature suite so had to phone using a mobile. Door handles falling off the door to balcony, many of the shutters couldn’t be opened. Satellite stations all bad connections. Bar cocktail charges were fine, BUT, then found out they were using local spirits as didn’t want to pay charges I was told by the management. That is a rip off when behind the bar you only see the imported spirits. Service fit breakfast and lunch was incredibly slow for an empty hotel. Sat waiting for 20 minutes etc lobby, bar, grounds etc all superb. But that’s it.
