« Room 201 was noisy, sink partly blocked, bedside alarm could not be worked. »

Usually I have no problems. Only once over the years before this latest night, have I had to request a room change as water was leaking over floor in bathroom. This time I found the room like being on a long haul flight!

I had two recent stays, the first for 2 nights, the second for 5. The Grand Mercure is a fine hotel. What I would expect from a 4 - 5 star hotel, nothing particularly unique. Location in Auckland is quite convenient for walking to the ferries, restaurants, etc. I was unable to sleep on a Saturday night as my room overlooked the "ocean" and restaurant/bar/club area. Noise went on until 4 AM. The hotel provides ear plugs - obviously, I was the not the first to have a noise problem. The "ocean view" room (this was the term used by the hotel check-in staff) gave glimpses of the Bay in between buildings. It was not scenic. Frankly, I preferred my Customs Street room assigned on my first stay. That was a larger room and quieter. My quibble is the mixed treatment I received as an Accor Platinum member. I paid for early check-in, so don't know if the hotel would have made this perk available to me. I did receive free breakfast which was greatly appreciated and nightly "goodies". On booking, I had requested a late check-out for my second stay. When I politely inquired again at check-in I was told "We are fully booked. We can't do it." Check-out time is 11 AM. I asked if even an extra hour was possible. NO. In my traveling experience, I have never been denied an extra hour at check-out, even from hotels at which I have no status. I do realize that late check-out is a perk, not a right, and subject to availability. However, I felt the way my request was handled was extremely rude whether a Platinum member or not. Simple denial, little apology. Nothing to help me out at all. I think that if I have another trip to Auckland, I will be finding another hotel. That check-out denial conversation was inexcusable.

« Lovely overnight stay »

Once we managed to find where to stop to get to the front entrance, everything else went smoothly. Staff were very friendly and helpful and our room was well appointed, clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, with road works taking place outside, it was quite noisy until nearly midnight. Our complimentary drink was served with nibbles and breakfast was a very good selection.

I stayed there at two different times... the issues I had was : the luggage wasn’t brought up .. never was offered... The breakfast, I went early and all the items were not warm ...

Check-in process was pretty smooth and staff were very friendly. House Keeping Team made sure that they meet every needs of the guest and it almost felt like my mum has been through my room (Super Clean). I was a comfortable stay, the staff were good and helpful, the hotel is good but I think a few amenities needs upgrading like a lock-in for a bathroom door, electrical equipment and lamp were not working, staff there good and helpful
