Beautiful views

I had a good experience and found one of the bar staff really friendly and helpful, he had a very positive attitude. The other staff were good too, however he really stood out because he was smiley and attentive. The food at the restaurant was delicious. My room was spacious, clean and had a great view. The only negative I will mention is the spa pools were really dirty- cloudy with debris and hair floating in it so I only used it once because it was not well maintained and sometimes the front desk staff were abrupt and less friendly.

On arrival there was construction work at the main entrance that we were not made aware of prior to our arrival, the person who checked us in did not give us a pool key and the person was very hard to understand. On arrival to our room it was very basic, there was no information book, room service menu and a very poor selection of tv channels and there was hair from previous guests on the shelf under the bathroom sink. The hotel had quite a few families staying which is no problem but the kids were running around the hallways, playing with the lifts and just being a general nuisance. The room was very noisy with loud bass from neighbouring properties or rooms thumping away late at night and voices from neighbouring rooms could be clearly heard. The breakfast that was included in our rate was average, the coffee was awful and we ended up buying our own from local cafes. On checkout there was an attempt to charge us more then the menu prices on items we had ordered during our stay. Overall this was quite a disappointing experience and would likely stay elsewhere in future.

Room for improvement

We were slightly disappointed with the restaurant menu and the fact that you would run out of burgers at 7:30 and the falafel burger was dry. We stayed for 3 days and each day we had to ask for our room to be topped up with tea and coffee as when the room was serviced it was not replenished. The spa pools needed cleaning regularly because of many people and some groups of people in them. Room surfaces such as the wall the tv is in and the fridge area showed fingermarks all over. Just from a covid point of view I thought the attention to detail wasn't there. Reception staff were helpful.

Comfortable beds Great pool With a family stay I would expect 2 singles for the children, it’s very noisy with people up and down the hallway and rooms on either side. Curtains were ripped in out room

The building is outdated. The wall paper and ceiling have wet marks. The carpets are worn out. The beds are worn. The whole building and facility needs to be changed/updated.

We had the lake view side rooms and the view was stunning. The bed was extremely comfortable and everyone of our group of 7 rated it 10/10. One of the couple travelling with us said they had the best night sleep ever.

Had a great stay, staff welcoming and extremely helpful! Perfect stay for family with kids, with pool, cleaning and toilets smelt unclean and of urine down in main entrance. Cleanliness of rooms and standards poor and disappointed with this. Shared dish cloth from room to room, ended up doing my own cleaning and requested cleaning products as a bit unacceptable on this side of things. Would absolutely stay again, just would like to see disenfectant used and standards raised.

Easy, friendly check in/out Three requests was actioned and provided immediately (Tea sachets, bowl/plate, and more toilet paper) Enjoyed pool area (better if heated!):-) Would certainly stay again Only thing (but I didn’t complain) after two nights when making the bed I noticed a few patches of dried blood on the duvet. I left it folded over/open for cleaner to see but they didn’t change (maybe didn’t see). I didn’t complain but it wasn’t very nice to see! (Definitely wasn’t our blood)

Pool party

I booked to stay at the Mercure as it had a pool for my children to enjoy. On our third day we arrived back in the afternoon ready for a swim only to find that the pool was closed to guests for a ticketed R18 pool party. There were about 100 young adults drinking and lounging around the pool. The music was very loud. We had to go out as it was noisy and our room looked out over the party. Despite signs out on the lifts limiting it to 2 people, when I was waiting for the lift a group of about ten unmasked pool party attendees came out. Pool party people were walking thought out the hotel without masks. There seemed to be little in the way of covid precautions in place. We were not warned in advance of the pool party. An R18 pool party was not really appropriate at a hotel which was full of families. Otherwise, the hotel was fine. It is a shame that they decided to hold a pool party at the expense of their guests’ enjoyment.

Always enjoy returning to this property. Great views from lakeview rooms. Clean and comfortable rooms , .Close but not to close to town so very quiet. Staff are always very friendly and helpful. Good free parking.
