« Expectations for this type of hotel were met. »

Only one aspect that needs to be attended to. On the first day, I went to breakfast, not pre-booked , and came out without notifying the attendant at the door because he or she was busy the whole time. Afterwards, whilst waiting for my contact I then notified the attendat as the peak period was over. A short while later, he chased me for payment because there was no credit card against my room in spite of my colleague, in an alternative room, informing the check in attendant that he would be responsible for the account... Most unfortunate situation and it should not happen again to anyone! Please check how you manage this!

« Good hotel, Nice view overlooking the river »

I stayed on the upgraded rooms for members. Nice for the class of hotel. Meals were only at the bar and the schnitzel was not so good, a bit oily. If I had another choice for my late arrival I would have gone to another restaurant.

« We always return to this hotel as the standard is very good and the view of the Rhine from the executive rooms is superb. »

Room was lovely, though as we were in a corner room the space in the bathroom was compromised by a column. We travelled with our bicycles this year so the store room in the car park was very useful. Staff were as usual pleasant and efficient and always helpful.

« OK, but not very helpful staff »

I found the person at check-in when I arrived late at night quite rude. When I phoned down the next day to ask for an iron I was told that I must use the ironing room, which I found to contain one iron/ironing board for a hotel of several hundred rooms, so there were several people already waiting - I had to go out in un-ironed cloths. No what you expect in a Mercure!

The room was very comfortable and clean. We arrived early and were able to store our luggage and the given excellent advice on where to visit and what to do. The breakfast offered a wide choice.

« Shocking surprise »

Had 2 Privilege River View Rooms for 5 nights that included free mini bar with 1 beer, 2 sodas and 2 water daily. View from room was great. Housekeeping needs improvements. For a 4 star hotel, we expect towels in better conditions than some torn ones. 2 spiders on ceiling in one of the rooms during the stay plus had to request missing replacement towels and amenities for the first 2 nights. We arranged to exchange the daily supply of beer and sodas for bottled water for one of the rooms. It worked until Sept 1 9:30pm when Melina B and Noelia V were on duty. The shocking rude attitude in treating guests like criminals were unbecoming. With much reluctance, the bottled water were finally brought to the room for exchange instead of having us took the drinks to the reception. To add insult to injury, we were charged on Sept 2 check out for a hotel bar bill of 7 beers and a cocktail drink that were supposed to be incurred on Aug 29. The fact is that we do not use alcohol. Mercure could not provide the “signed bill” to substantiate the charges. It took the staff quite a bit of time to have the charges removed but not before they had me signed a statement. I do not know German. For clarity and to avoid any future dispute, I added my explanations in English to the hotel statement that was hand written in German. With the unexpected delay, we were grateful that we did not miss our train to our next destination. Our trip along the Rhine River would have been perfect without these incidents.

The Mercure is a great place to stay, due to friendly service, quiet A/C Rooms, friendly staff and great location to walk into the city. Even though on the pricy side, the breakfast buffet offers a great selection of different foods and flavors. The upgrade of the lobby area is also duly noticed
