Rooms were nice, but service, with the exception of Jeffery at the front desk (Who was superb!) was sorely lacking. Each need became our problem and our responsibility to solve. I am not a guest who wants to be coddled, I just need solutions to issues when they occur. This crew (excepting Jeffery) was determined to place the effort to resolve things on my shoulders and take no responsibility. I was promised adjoining rooms. They claimed there were none. I was promised a terrace room with a view of the Empire State and Chrysler Building - neither were in view. I was promised a call to update us on check-in status. We made multiple calls and were promised call-backs, which never came.

The front desk staff never answers the phone, you can leave a voicemail and they call you back within 24h, there is no bar, no restaurant, nothing in the minibar and not even a bottle of water in the room, no welcome drink, they offer room service only for breakfast and they don’t serve cooked food, cheese or ham, only Pains au chocolat, coissants, yoghurt, and American cereals. For a 5* Sofitel Property in Manhattan which should be a flagship hotel this is a complete JOKE.

We have stayed at the NY Sofitel many times pre Covid. This was the most disappointing visit. When our flight was delayed I called and notified the hotel of our late arrival. We had reserved a luxury room for four nights. The assigned room was small, I called the mgr and was told that it was the only room available and we could call back the next day at 2:30. The next day when I called the manager was"unavailable" I went dow n to the deskman a sympathetic agent changed our room. The room was better than the first but both rooms needed updating; scratched furniture,lumpy mattress, lack of adequate plugs for electronics. Overall a disappointing stay in a "luxury" hotel.

Well located hotel. The rooms and all items were extremely clean. Spacious room and confortable. Breakfast choices were reduced but good. Couple of points to note: add back slippers in the rooms as well as bottles of water.

Hotel super well located between 5th and 6th midtown. But rooms are outdated and not at all aligned with any Sofitel in Europe I experienced. On top, breakfast can only be room service and there is no bar or restaurant working.

Doors were scratched, there was rubbish left forgotten in the bathroom on arrival, mattress awful with a terrible mattress topper that kept sliding off and my husband had to roam the streets at 11pm searching for a spoon and cup so we could feed our baby.....this is an awful hotel and I am absolutely shocked at how much we waste staying here for teo nights. We thought we would end our trip on a high but your hotel made our stay end on an awful low. The manager refunded the booking fee but given how much we spent that's a small amount to recompense for such a stressful 2 days. I should share this review on Google so other families aren't left with dangerous bed toppers and no access to basic facilties.

Not up to the usual standard that I expect from Sofitel. Comfortable bed, and rest of room ok apart from one of the drawers being wonky and the wardrobe door not fitting properly. Slightly annoying as it had to be fully closed to extinguish the internal light. Now, whether the rest of the fall in standard was due to Covid, I can’t tell as we had a very busy schedule and didn’t want to waste time complaining. The mini bar was decommissioned, no coffee making facility, no bottled water, bathroom amenities not restocked, had to ask for body lotion. Asked for some bottled water and told the Hotel had run out of it. The doorman who held his umbrella over himself rather than us when getting a cab might need to re-think that move. None of the Hotel’s dining areas were open, but even though I’d been advised that there was a limited room service for breakfast, there was nothing in the room to indicate this. There was also much vaunting of “enhanced cleanliness”. But I have no idea what was meant by this as I didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary. Not really what I’ve come to expect from Accor hotels.

I was pleased with my accommodations at the Sofitel. The staff was very attentive and they had a clear COVID protocol, even providing hand sanitizer in the elevators. I was a bit disappointed after my long flight to NY that there was no restaurant open in the hotel and I didn't find any exercise equipment available. However, it was located in a prime location and I would go back because the bed was so comfy!

Service has gone downhill

Upon arrival, the air conditioning was not working. I informed the front desk. Upon returning from dinner and theatre, the AC was still not working. I brought it to the front desk again. The problem was resolved by the second evening. Upon checkout, there were mutliple problems with the bill. After receiving a solicitation to upgrade and pay $16 extra per night, I chose to do so - this was a few days before arrival. Apparently, this request created a second reservation. That second reservation cancelled the original reservation (without my knowing). This second reservation did not just add $16 per night, but gave a whole new rate for one of the nights which was $100 more than previously confirmed on my reservation. The extra $16 was also charged for 3 nights - we were only staying 2 nights. This all was finally resolved, but only after a prolonged discussion. Also, when I checked in online a day before arrival, the system rejected one of my credit cards. I needed to supply a new credit card. When checking my credit card accounts, Sofitel did a pending charge on BOTH cards. On the second card, it created two pending charges totalling over $3000. This was resolved, but your system is apparently out of control.

Poor. I’ve stayed here many many times. The restaurant and bar were closed and room service closed at 2 pm. I would never have stayed had I known that prior to booking.

Bit of a let-down

Frankly, it was not up to the standards I would have expected. Everything was clean and comfortable in the room, but it was all so half-hearted. Drawer fell out while in use and wardrobe door did not close properly. Great pillows. Minibar not in use (presume Covid reasons) but would have expected at least some bottled water. We were told the Hotel had run out of it. Few toiletries, (had to ask for body lotion) and the usual amenity jar was not replenished after the first night - so no Q tips or shower cap. Staff were pleasant, but the doorman holding an umbrella over HIMSELF while we were rained on while he hailed a cab???? We were only there for a very busy weekend, so not in the mood or having the time to complain, we just put up with it, but were disappointed.

Good location, very quiet…. No coffee, ice or water??

Great central location and off Broadway - remarkably quiet. Amazingly comfortable bed though rooms are very old and in need of a refresh. (An actual, archaic corded phone by the toilet?) Very clean and bathrooms are somewhat modern. Spacious. Biggest downfall was service and amenities - by far the greatest grievance was being told no, no coffee maker (and we won’t give you one for your stay), no, no ice - like, at all, and no room service after 2 pm on a Friday (what??!) meaning no ice for cocktails pre-show. No bar or restaurant but it is NYC - no lacking in the vicinity. Oh, and no bottled water in the rooms - c’mon. Hotel staff provided contradictory information; some pleasant, others downright rude. Very much used to the Fairmont experience - this was not close.

Great hotel with some issues

I love this hotel and have stayed several times. It is beautiful, the rooms are great, and it is a wonderful location for theatre. There were some issues, however. The air conditioning was not working when we arrived. I brought this to the front desk before we left for dinner. When we returned, it was not fixed and I received no message. I reported again the next morning and when we returned later that day, it was corrected. In addition, the bill was incorrect with duplicate charges and an incorrect room charge which was almost $100 more than on my confirmation. Their system had created two reservations, cancelled one, and was charging more on the new reservation. After a bit of a go-around, it was corrected, but their system should be more efficient and correct. If you stay here, be sure to check your bill!

Good, nice room. But hotel had no breakfast restaurant, no room service during the day or evening and the room fridge was not working. Also, I forgot something in my room and have been trying to speak to the hotel for some days now unsuccessfully - there is only a recorded message on the phone, it is impossible to speak to a person and my various emails have not been responded.

The entire staff from the management to front desk , bell man , door men and both room service and housekeeping were incredible. My only dissatisfaction was the lack of food available. The restaurant and bar were closed and there was no food for room service. I realize we are still under COVID times and starting to fully reopen will happen . Hopefully sooner than later . This is a great hotel especially when fully operational . I will stay there as my hotel of choice when visiting NYC again !

Poor concierge

During my recent stays, I have need for the use of the concierge. I believe the 44th St location in NY has two-a male and a female. The front desk was hesitant to give their names but did, however, I lost the slip of paper. During our stay in December prior to our QM2 embarkation, I spoke to the female concierge on the phone about arranging PCR tests for us. She quickly made us appointments shortly after our arrival that were within walking distance to the hotel. I called back about a week later with a question about the PCR procedure, the male concierge answered the phone and he said he ‘didn’t know about PCR sites’. I explained that I had spoken to a young lady who had booked us appointments. He mumbled and said ‘let’s see if I can get you their phone number…’ I stated that I wanted him to find the answer and leave me a voicemail. He was indignant and said ‘I don’t have to do that.’ This stay I once again encountered the male concierge on my way out to a meeting. I asked him if he could provide a few sheets of correspondence paper and envelopes. He stuttered and said ‘we’ll, I don’t know where I would get them or when’. I said I was late and if he could leave them at the front desk? No correspondence paper/envelopes. On another day as I was leaving, I stopped quickly and asked if I could have a small bouquet of flowers sent to my room billed to me (my dog had died). First, I had to wait until he finished his conversation with another staff member and then slowly turned to me and said ‘oh, I can’t do that because your billing information is secure (which I understand) and I don’t know how we would go about getting them.’ I walked away I was late. I called the front desk from my cab to tell them about the concierge and I just wanted a small bouquet of flowers for my room and the concierge was incompetent. The gentleman at the front desk said he would do his best. I went back to my room 6 hrs later expecting to see flowers and there, of course, were none. These last 2 stays have been disappointing service wise as notated above. I realize the pandemic continues but why have a concierge if he is inept. It was greatly frustrating.
