« Worst ever »

Room clean. Two beds pushed together, one bed higher than the other. Both beds creaked if you so much as breathed. Duvets were zipped together which wasn’t particularly comfortable. All through night it sounded like I was sleeping next to a generator. No idea where noise was coming from but was very loud. Fortunately was only there for one night. Breakfast wasn’t particularly good. Spoke to four other guests who also had same experience/ opinion of the hotel.

It was a very cold night, the heating was not working. They gave us a small heater which we couldn't keep on during the whole night as it was a fire hazard and the "heating" was blowing out cold air. Had to sleep with my hoodie on!

Stayed many times previously with no problems, this time room 615 had poor shower flow (head probably needs a simple descale) and a constant rattle all night from the ventilator grille in the room (though aircon/heating was switched off). Both seem like basic maintenance issues that should really be spotted at room inspection and sorted out. Otherwise as comfortable as usual!

Awful stay. Didn't sleep there that night. I had a multi national conference call but there was drilling going on all day. After I checked in someone from maintenance opened my door as I was resting. I called reception and told them about this important phone call but was told they cant stop the refurbishment for my sake. She did offer me the use of the restaurant but this was a private call that I needed to take in the privacy of my room. The phone in the room did not work. It didn't even have a dial tone. A most disappointing stay

« Tired and unkempt »

Where do I start. This was my 2nd stay (I booked both together). It's a Shane that I can't share my photos on this review! (But I have on TripAdvisor). Cracking and peeling paint on walls, missing skirting boards. Chipped edges on the desk. Dirty shower drain, making water poll and flooding floor in bathroom. Broken bed base, where the 2 single beds are joined to make a double. 2 separate rooms, however the problems remain the same!

I have respectfully suggested that BTC course in forum NOT recommend IBIS as a place for delegates to stay. After the course on Saturday my colleague and I arrived back to the hotel and as we walked to our room on our floor we heard high pitched screaming from a woman with a man shouting at her - it was clear she was being beaten up. To cut a very long story short my colleague and I asked the reception to call the Police as the beating was ongoing, we could hear the banging and screams at the reception. The man at the desk was very unconcerned but told us that he had called the police, I didn't believe him and so I phoned 999, I felt the woman was in a grave situation. The police did come but the woman had fled and the man had left. It was very frightening. The shocking part of it is that the police told me the hotel had not in fact called them - in other words they were quite happy to let a women be brutalised, it was terrible. I thought you would want this feedback as if I were to do another course in Stevenage I would have to source and alternative accommodation.

Please rest assured that the situation was in hand and I can confirm to you that no one was being beaten, the couple were having a major argument, throwing things in the heat of the moment - the receptionist had informed them he would call the police if it continued, at which point you then called the police, the receptionist informed them the police had been called and they decided to leave the hotel together before being arrested for disturbing the peace. We would never allow or be ok with someone being beaten, however this was not the case, it was investigated correctly - I can only apologies that you suffered severe worry over a young intoxicated couple arguing. We understand if you were to choose to stay elsewhere, however this is an exception to normal behavior of our guests. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Sincerely,

Unfortunately or as it was fortunately we didn't stay as my wife took ill and we were advised to go back home. I say fortunately because this was by far the worst hotel I have set foot in. It is shabby from the entrance to the room. We asked for a disabled room and to try and get my wife's mobility scooter in was almost impossible.

« Room was very dated »

Attention to detail of cleaning, as heavy dust was on the wall of the bathroom behind the door. Thick layers of paint were flaking off the walls, and skirting missing from part of the wall. Desk was badly chipped and coffee cup stains on desk. The bad was comfortable enough, despite 2 single bed bases.. Bath mat was stained and torn. Shower was too powerful for tidy cubicle, meaning that water flooded the floor.

We come to Stevenage every year in January and always stay at the Ibis. Last year we were given a really bad room, mouldy windows and very noisy so we complained to management. This year we were given a free breakfast, bottle of wine and points on my A club card towards another stay in compensation which we accepted. This year we have no complaints. The room was lovely and the staff were amazing.
