I was waiting for my second stay in 2 weeks to fill in this evaluation as I wanted to confirm the very positive impression I had last time. Sadly this will not be the case… I was always very positive with the Pullman next door as they quickly recognized me and make each monthly stay a pleasure over the last 7 years. This Mercure , despite having stayed here already 4 or 5 times, still seems uncertain despite my platinum status with Accor. While n upgrade is not a given, it becomes expected as a return customer (every 2 weeks !). Here, nobody seems to recognize me and I suppose that, given the move of the Pullman clientele to this establishment (Pullman is refurbishing for 6 months), they don’t have too … and seem to don’t care based on the reception experience I had tonight. Since I was put in a newly refurbished standard room, I can already give you a few hints of what needs to be adjusted : have a door that actually closes by itself (ie without having to push/pull it closed), have a extra roll of toilet paper that is not in your leg (move it forward out of the way), have similar lights on both side of the bed, have 2 closet doors to effectively close it (or at least one that close on both side completely (currently stuck in the middle), have a shower with a large overhead head on top of the small moving one (or call yourself an Ibis), put the luggage holder against the wall and not by the bed where we hit it in the middle of the night, have a fridge that is actually cold (may be it is because it is empty but for a box of flat water), have a cooling system that actually cools, have an internet logging that actually ends by a connection after 2 clicks (currently you need to go back a couple times after wondering what to do as the connection is not establish and the system forces you to Accor reservation without establishing clearly the connection), the parking daily new code should be available to the night crew such that they can communicate it for the evening return of the early birds that leave before 7h. Otherwise, the general arrangement of the room and the colors are good and the chair comfortable (wheels would make it easier to use to work on the small desk available). Note that in the last 5 years, every refurbished hotel seems to have adopted a very hard bed that is familiar to the Asian clientele…. Please try to remember that you are in Europe and a softer bed is in our customs… going to an hotel to hurt our back is not a good way to keep the customer (Westin has very well understood that and have top beds)…. And the extra topping is an indispensable plus but sadly not enough ; try to have European rooms for your local customers ! Note that this is a very common issue nowadays, somebody in Procurement must like to punish customers (or save cost ??) and nobody told them it was stupid ! As part of being a” valued platinum customer”, it is expected to be able to order something a little better than a beer or a glass of wine for the free drinks… Ibis is expected to stick to the policy, Pullman had no limit, Mercure should learn some flexibility for repeat customers… That’s all for today, but feel free to ask again, it should only go up… or I’ll move to the Marriott for the next 6 months. PS: my grades below will reflect the frustration I feels tonight more than the good service I received last time (and I am suppose to evaluate).
