Eddee14 Friends getaway - TripAdvisor review

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL UNTIL AT LEAST JAN 2023!!! We arrived at this hotel at 6pm and were greeted by the reception staff in a friendly manner. We were asked for our name and they gave us our keys. That is the extent of the conversation we had. We were then woken up at 0800 the next day by no fewer than FOUR drills and at least two people hammering. It turns out, that “short notice” works, which started in AUGUST 2022 had been planned and will happen Monday - Saturday from the early morning until late afternoon EVERY SINGLE WEEK. At no point did the staff warn us of this. There were 2 signs, which were small and not noticeable nor were they pointed out to us. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING of this on either Expedia (who we booked through) or on Ibis’s website itself. I have never visited a hotel before that did not advertise works going on that may disrupt your stay. This hotel is taking bookings deceptively without being honest about what is going on. They are nothing short of crooks. When we approached the manager about what he was going to do about our issues, in essence to refund us, he turned round and said that because we had stayed (what choice did we have really?) he wouldn’t do anything. No complimentary breakfast, no apology absolutely nothing. He would only give his first name of Fred, which I’m not even sure is true, and he is single handedly the worst manager and customer service representative I have ever met. I will never book an Ibis hotel again. I am still waiting for Expedia to refund me as I hope they have more decency and honesty than Ibis do.

Do NOT stay during the ***unadvertised*** building works

AVOID WHILE THE BUILDING WORKS ARE BEING DONE. The hotel should be closed. As I write this there are 2 different drills going and one hammer banging away. When we booked this hotel there was no mention of any building work being done and nothing was said by the very sheepish reception staff when we arrived. We came for a relaxing city break to Manchester and have been woken up every morning at 8:30 by banging and drilling. The drilling is so loud it makes the ceiling shake and is impossible to ignore. Tradesmen also wander around on the scaffolding outside your bedroom window which is wonderful. I appreciate they can’t help that the work needs to be done but I would never have stayed here if I’d have known, which is probably why they don’t mention it anywhere when you book the room. Speaking of the room, the carpet is filthy, the bed is rock solid, the pillow is a bizarre rectangle which is simultaneously too hard and too soft, the toilet smells like a public toilet, the shower has no pressure and the hot water smells like eggs. Location’s alright though

Staff on arrival were very friendly and helpful offering advice on nearby parking and the local amenities and attractions. Also responded very well to a minor issue we had with the room.
