Came for the Mother’s Day meal with my mum, my partner and his mum.. food was delicious. My mum is a vegetarian so khrisna had prepared a vegetarian meal for her. Massive thanks to all of the chefs……only down side was the beer smelled off.
Not good, definitely would not go back.

Disinterested staff on evening shift. Barely a trickle of hot water in bedroom wash hand basin and shower, toilet seat in bedroom hanging on one hinge, stopper in whb stuck closed, no way to release water. food was served cold at evening meal. Only plus was breakfast, staff were at least aware of basic customer service and food was good.
car park riddled with potholes - damaged car.

Lovely old building which needs a lot of repairs. We parked in the rear car park and had to dive over some of the worst potholes we have ever seen. Dark and didnt see them. Damaged my wheel. Will be claiming off hotel's insurer. They should have even closed that part of the car park or roped it off or put warnings there. Saw elderly woman fall when he foot went into pothole. Helped her to her feet and thankfully she was ok but a bit shaken.
Lovely, lovely staff - if you don't like noise, maybe avoid weekends.

The Mercure Dunkenhalgh (apparently, the gh is pronounced "sh") is near Clayton-le-Moors and Accrington, but you would need to get a minicab to either of them if you are of a certain age, as, for us, too far to walk. The old part of the hotel is quite beautiful and it has a large annexe, where our bedroom was situated. Our room was large and comfortable. The only complaint about the annexe would be that the doors are VERY noisy when shut and it gives you quite a jump every time someone enters or exits their room. The bar is quite dark and dominated by a TV, but the sound is low, so, if you can avoid looking at the screen, not too much of a problem. At weekends, they can have weddings, charity events, hen nights (wow, those girls can shriek!), birthday parties, etc., so, if you don't like noise, I would suggest visiting during the week. There was a charity event on the Saturday night we were there, for which they had a music licence until 1 a.m. and then fireworks! I have to say though that I put my earplugs in and it didn't greatly bother me. Apparently, they have a lot of football teams staying there and, indeed, Wigan Athletic FC were there on the Friday night we were there - lovely chaps and no trouble at all (I think the team went to bed early, in preparation for their match against Burnley the next day). The food is OK - could be warmer at times. Now for the big plus - all the staff are wonderful, from the bar staff to the excellent restaurant staff. They are all kind, friendly and can't do enough to please/accommodate even the most demanding guest! Special thanks to the lovely Krishna and Aziz - two lovely gentlemen.

Unfortunately we only stayed one night on the way home. We received a very warm and efficient welcome and were allocated room 210 which was large and well decorated (although two prints on the bedroom wall were a bit like the end of the world). The bathroom was a decent size with a good shower and lots of hot water. The bed was very comfortable but the pillows were, for me, most uncomfortable, but we had a good night's sleep. The evening meal was very good and the service was excellent. Breakfast had a very good choice of food available and the hot items were well cooked. The breakfast service was overseen by Aziz who was very welcoming and very good at his job. The only slight problem is that some rooms are a long way away from the dining room and residents have to negotiate some very cold and draughty corridors although the bedrooms and public rooms were well heated. Would certainly stop here again, we enjoyed the peace and quiet.
