« Amazing view »

Check in was lovely and smooth and after returning from shopping in the city there was a birthday treat waiting in my room. Kian on reception was friendly, welcoming and professional. Can't wait to stay again.

« Well located with a beautiful view of the Cathedral »

A wonderful location but unfortunately that is all this hotel has going for it. It is in desperate need of upgrading. The room is very old and so is the furniture and deco. It was not very clean. Glass, coffee mugs and bathrooms were not that clean. Although we were on a non smoking floor the entire corridor smelt of smoke. The reception staff and reservations staff were excellent.

Very courteous and welcoming staff. Lovely big bedroom with view of the cathedral. Dressing gown and slippers were appreciated! I have stayed here on several occasions and have always found the bar area a bit chilly and uninviting. It was much the same this time. However, I did have a very excellent (and much needed) G&T there. Breakfast was self- service and fairly average. I will probably stay here again.

I stayed at the hotel on 15th of February. Though the weather was terrible I had an amazing stay atvthd hotel. Breakfast was nice with good choice of vegetarian option. On arrival a birthday note was waiting for me which was a nice touch.

We have stayed before and enjoyed the stay. This time the tv wasn’t tuned and we didn’t have time to call relation to let them know. We booked the dinner and the dinner choice was very very small. The staff are great, but the package given for the price was poor.

« Wonderful position »

I have known Winchester for many years but never needed an hotel as my parents used to live there. Now I will always stay at the Wessex - the location is brilliant for the city, and we had the perfect room with a view of the Cathedral, and could also see Colebrooke House where Sir David Calcutt lived, who was an old family friend. A perfect stay, and next time we will make sure we can stay longer!

« Mostly good stay, but air conditioning is not so good. »

Heater has enough power, but positioning and air flow are restricted. Because of this, top half of room are too hot, but the bottom half and window side of the room are too cold.

Ideal hotel for a weekend away, the car park is expensive but if you arrive after 6pm on Sat local public car parking is free!

Lovely hotel nice room, Shame about the customer service when we checked out, asked why we had been charged twice, told parking was £5 but ended up being £12, bar bill charged twice also! Shame about the ending after a short visit to lovely Winchester

« Visiting on “old friend” »

Stayed on a Friday night in Room 203, excellent bathroom, lovely views of the Cathedral, the bedroom although well equipped; is in need of an update; ( heavy mould in the top frame of the picture window, a stain on the carpet entrance) Excellent Buffet Breakfast, ( hate the toast machine) The Staff were all excellent, and we were made to feel most welcome. We have stayed in the hotel on and off since 1965 ( we came on our Wedding day April 5th 1965) Would we stay again ? Yes in a heartbeat !!

« Great location for city centre. »

The room was good and very clean. Breakfast was excellent with a very good choice. All the staff we met were very helpful and pleasant. It was very close to city centre. Being able to park the car was a bonus.

« It was a good stay »

The staff were welcoming and friendly and always spoke to you. We felt the hotel is in need of a make over as the paint in the corridors was gouged and chipped and the carpet in places was worn and held down with tape. Our room was facing the cathedral which was quiet however the glazing was not sound proof as you could hear what people said. The hotel is in an excellent position. Breakfast was good but the hot food was a bit dried out. Again staff there were helpful.

The meet and greet was excellent, exceptionally polite reception staff and extremely helpful. I had a room which overlooked the cathedral, and at night its lit up, what a wonderful view. Extremely close to the shops, less than a 2 minute walk.

« Good location friendly staff but disappointed with the food »

We were given an upgrade and were pleased with the room . Initially had problems with the heating but a portable heater was provided and that proved adequate. The door lock and handle were problematical but after changing the key and adjusting the handle it worked most of the time. The water pressure in the en suite was very low but as we were only staying the one night we did not report it. Our main complaint was the dinner menu which was very limited and had nothing on it that appealed to us so we chose from the all day bar menu. We were then told that our dinner allowance was £15 each and that anything over would be charged. We have stayed in dozens of hotels on a DBB basis and never been told the dinner allowance was that low! When I spoke to the receptionist the following morning she explained that it was an error and had adjusted the bill accordingly. We were therefore very disappointed with the whole dining experience which took the shine off the overnight stay.

Dear Whom it may concern, I am emailing regarding a recent unsatisfactory stay at the Mercure Hotel in Winchester, reservation number: JCFLHZVZ on Saturday 25th January. During my stay on Saturday I was awoken in the middle of the night due to an individual being loud and disruptive. This caused me to have an disrupted night and a dissatisfied experience. Unfortunately even though members of staff from the Winchester Mercure were aware of the problem they weren't of any help in resolving this issue. This is disappointing as I have stayed at this hotel many times before, however this experience has discouraged me from staying with any Mercure hotel in the future. This is unsatisfactory as I feel my experience has not met your Mercure quality guarantee that you state online.
