« Stayed so far for 30 nights on Business »

Staff are friendly, rooms are ok however you often have fly's due to the surrounding woodlands and farming. Food in the bar is limited and the quality can be hit and miss depending on which chef is on shift. Had some okay meals and some poor ones, on one occasion sending back the fish as it was off. Bar prices are some of the most expensive you will ever pay!! The Gym is a good one, On two occasions when I've stayed theirs been no hot water? Some rooms are noisy and some quiet depending onwhere in the hotel you are.

« Excellent overnight stay! »

Can't fault the hotel! Very warmly received and very well looked after - even our daughter's two giant breed dogs! Evening meal in the restaurant was really good. Loved the hotel buildings and the grounds - brilliant outdoor Christmas decorations!

« Watch the rabbits ripped to pieces over Sunday Breakfast »

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for a weekend break. After a leisurely and quite pleasant breakfast in the restaurant, I wandered outside to take a stroll around the grounds of the hotel with my Collie dog – what I saw was very unpleasant: • Some guys were hunting within 50 metres of the hotel reception – in full view of hotel guests, children, wedding party guests etc; • There were hunting rabbits - by chasing them out of their burrow with a ferret - into snares and nets; • Those rabbits that dodged the traps were attacked by their lurcher dog – and ripped to pieces in front of me; • The rabbits caught by the dogs were the lucky ones – those caught in the nets had their necks broken in the most brutal of ways … and left to die a painful and agonising death in a pile, twitching and moving but with no control of their legs or bodies; • I implored the hunters to put the rabbits out of their misery instead of callously leaving them to die a slow, agonising death; • When I confronted the ‘hunters’ I was told they had the permission of the hotel to be there (‘Levi the head groundsman gave us permission’). Overall, I found the experience at Brandon Hall Hotel to be sickening and horrific – • On a Sunday morning • within 50 metres of reception; • on the lawn to the right of the main entrance; • in full view of hotel guests and on the main lawn - overlooked by some bedrooms and public areas; • next to the illuminated Christmas reindeer and sledge which children wanted to visit. Needless to say the experience ruined our weekend at the Brandon Hall Hotel. We have stayed at Mercure / Accor hotels all around the world – never again!

I felt the rooms were dated and to me didn’t feel like a 4star experience (a posh travel lodge) With a broken window catch meaning the window didn’t close fully, a dangerous faulty iron, a blown bulb in the bathroom plus chipped basin, worst was the card holder that enables the lights was also broken and needed a pen to be jammed in it to keep the lamps and heater on, most of these were fixed before my stay ended but was poor presentation. The food was nice although the same menu every night was rather odd and the staff were all very polite. The beds were super comfy but the only way to heat the room was to have the blower/aircon on constantly which was distracting when trying to sleep! The first morning I woke up my room was very cold indeed as I didn’t realise there was no radiators....yikes! The rooms need updating and a more varied menu to justify its 4 star price!

it was a business 2 day meeting - we have these with you approx 3 times a year. This time we had more delegates. My only note would be that the food was a little disappointing.

« In the main everything was good with my stay at the hotel. »

Overall a good experience with the hotel. The breakfast choices are good. The lunchtime food was really good this time. Good selection of hot and cold food which was tasty. Hotel room was big and clean and quiet. Staff are friendly and attentive. The only downside this year was the evening good. I had butternut squas soup which was bland and tasteless. I had turkey for main which was so hard is was difficult to cut and when you could get into it, it was mainly stuffing in the inside hardly any meat. The roast potatoes were hard and there as a tiny bit of gravy we had to ask for more. My Christmas pudding was hot, piping hot but served with cold custard. But other than that everything else at the hotel was good.

« Nice hotel, bland room with poor veggie options at the restaurant »

Lovely looking hotel. Enjoyed the pool facilities. Found the room to be bland and didn’t feel it reflected the price well. There was only one veggie option main course at dinner, consisting of a cauliflower and 3 spears of asparagus. Any form of protein and/or carbohydrates would have been appreciated.

My room was lovely - the food was poor and the smell in the bar was unacceptable in any hotel let alone a 4 start hotel. Having four bottles of wine delivered to my dinner-table unopened was tricky - when asked if they could be opened a lady appeared after much delay, handed the corkscrew to my colleague and told him to open the bottles but he would have to give her back the corkscrew as it was the only one in the hotel - she stood and watched him open the bottles of wine - £80 worth in a four star hotel? My colleague was pushed over and her leg hurt by the kitchen door in the restaurant by a member of staff. A cursory apology was given.

« Fantastic place to stay but worried about fire procedures »

I really enjoyed staying at the Mercure Brandon in Rugby. The facilities are excellent and the whole venue is well appointed and very clean. You have also made a big effort with the Christmas lights/decorations. However the fire alarm was activated around 6.30am. I vacated my room but nobody else evacuated and no staff around to explain that it was a false alarm. I was therefore locked out of my room with nobody to assist. Fortunately I had my mobile and rang reception but was left waiting quite a while before I could get back into my room.

« Long weekend »

Check-in was formal and swift; we had booked for three nights, the key card only showed one night. When I queried the date I was told that the booking is correct the key card does not matter. Our feature room was large, overlooked the garden, was clean, and accommodated two sofas, a large bed and a bathroom off a dressing area. We ate in the restaurant, the service was very efficient, no long waits between courses, and the food was served hot and was good quality. The restaurant was well decorated and clean but is basically a large room, with plain walls and non carpeted floors, so sound resonates around and we found it very noisy. I was embarrassed at the end of the meal, when I asked for the restaurant bill to be charged to my room. I was told that management had made a decision not to allow any guests to charge extras to their room, but must pay each item separately. I pointed out as an Accor Gold Card holder, I would be penalised for items paid and not shown on my account. It was at this point I realised why the dates on key card did not matter, although the card states it must be shown on all occasions when charging items to your room. The buffet style breakfast was okay, but the baked beans had a skin on the top, it would only take a second for a member of staff to stir it and the scrambled eggs to make them look more appetising. That said one, morning as the hotel was particularly empty the hot food was cooked to order, it was like eating a completely different meal and so much more tasty. In summary the hotel is in well kept grounds, is clean and service is fine, Although we did not use the bar, the seating area and the public lounge area was limited for a four star hotel.

« Long weekend »

The approach to the hotel is up a sweeping drive with numerous Christmas lights in the grounds. The large car park was busy as it was a Saturday, but space was available at the rear. I pointed out as an Accor Gold Card holder, I would be penalised for items paid and not shown on my account. It was at this point I realised why the dates on key card did not matter, although the card states it must be shown on all occasions when charging items to your room. One further annoyance with the key card, on return to the hotel each day, our key cards did not operate the room lock, each time needing a trip to reception to the have the card re programmed. We had breakfast in the mornings, all buffet style and help yourself, a reasonable selection of items cereals, fruits, yogurts and hot dishes from a Bain Marie. Unless there is a large turnover the hot food does tend to dry out and with skin on top of the baked beans. It would only take a second for a member of staff to stir it and the scrambled eggs to make them look more appetising. That said one, morning as the hotel was particularly empty the hot food was cooked to order, it was like eating a completely different meal and so much more tasty. The hotel has a pool and Spa which we did not use and therefore unable to comment on, other than to say as it is outside the main building and can be seen from the car park it always looked busy. In summary the hotel is in well kept grounds, is clean and service is fine, Although we did not use the bar, the seating area and the public lounge area was limited for a four star hotel.

« Lovely 3 day stay »

Must admit, I was a bit on-the-fence about how our stay would go because some of the reviews were a bit 'iffy'. But I have to say my wife and I loved our stay. The service was good, the room was lovely and the food was amazing - really good food! We were attending a 3 day event nearby and used our "Buy a Gift" vouchers for our 3 nights, which included breakfast and a 3 course dinner every day. Admittedly, we had a couple of teething problems on arrival. Our room had obviously been unoccupied for a while and was quite cold. only 1 radioator was on and it was on low. the other radiator wasnt working, so went to reception and they immediately provided a large electric radiator for us to use. Although once the room was warm, we didn't need to use it anymore. That was the only issue we had. Some may want to complain about the squeaky wooden floors, but it's an old building, so what do you expect? The food was just brilliant. really high quality food worthy of a high end restaurant. We had full use of the Spa and gym facilities too which had a alrge pool, sauna, steam and large gym with all the equipment you could need, Loved it

- General ambience is good - Bathroom was clean and room was tidy - However the walls/ doors were not sound proof. You could hear people talking outside even when the door is bolted - No coffee/ tea in the room. Most of the hotels have this service complimentary and should not require to be bought from the restaurant

« Lovely weekend with friends »

We had booked a triple room, with dinner and breakfast. It was excellent value for money. The food was great and the environment attractive and comfortable. The hotel had been decorated for Christmas and looked lovely. Perfect for a weekend catching up with friends.
