« Very relaxing spa and delicious food. »

Overall we had a lovely stay at ardoe. The spa, check in and restaurant staff were all fab. My one criticism would be around the bar provision. The whisky bar was closed so it was only Soapies providing drinks. We had a very long wait for service and when we ordered it took ages to get the drinks. It wasn’t because the staff member was doing anything wrong it just seemed to be understaffed. Soapies is also not a very big bar and not nice to sit in after a meal.

« To be expected »

Hi We stayed back in October and on arrival the hot tub wasn’t working and we felt our room wasn’t clean. We got offered a half price stay next time we stayed. Therefore we called up last week and booked to stay on saturday night. Prior to arriving I asked for a room with bath, which we got told we had. When we got to the room we noticed we didn’t have a bath. We then went to use the hot tub to find out it was broken AGAIN. We got told at the spa that it had been broken for weeks. Hugely disappointing, we stay at hotels to have a child free break and always stay at hotels with a spa and hot tub. However we’ve not been able to use this twice now. Everything else in the hotel was fantastic. Room was clean, breakfast was lovely and staff all very nice. We however won’t return in a hurry, because of the hot tub.

« Fabulous! »

Hotel with character. Bigger than expected clean room & bed with usual amenities. Friendly staff everywhere encountered (reception, spa, bar and when looking around). Buffet breakfast was amazing. The only downside was the steam room was cooler than would have liked and the air con (or pipes) n the swimming pool are noisy (for instance if doing breaststroke each time you bob your head you hear the noise). But clean, lovely peaceful environment. Great location outside of the city. Highly recommend.

« Lovely hotel, but a little cold »

Had a great stay. Room was lovely and service was spot on. Lovely decor as well. Shower could've been a bit cleaner, however, and hallways/spa area were a little cold. Sauna and steam room could have been hotter, too. However overall it was a great stay.

« Extremely pleasurable. »

Very relaxing. Nothing at Ardoe House was too much trouble for the staff during our highly enjoyable Xmas stay.

« Mr Chris R. »

I’ve just returned from a one night stay at the Ardoe house hotel. We had the Devnick for one night on Friday 10th January. We are long term return guests and we came back every year to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Unfortunately this stay was not acceptable. There were a few small niggles. Which I wouldn’t have normally mentioned, however they add up. Bar service was poor at the start of the night. On 2 separate occasions I had to go looking for someone, as did other guests at times. The water pressure in the rooms bathroom sink is extremely weak. The jacuzzi was out of order. As I said, I’d normally forgive the hotel for this. But it’s still dissapointing. The main issue which made it a very poor stay was the temperature of the hotel. It was unacceptably cold. In the bar next to the fire the staff placed a small fan heater. It wasn’t much help in such a big room. Even worse our room temperature was freezing. Again, there was a electric blow heater in the room. Which we needed to use but it made quite a noise which kept us awake. It really was a very poor stay. Other guests which we met and talked had the same complaints about the coldness in the main hotel. When we made the comment at checkout a member of the maintenance team just happened to overhear and said, yes the main fires are needing fix and there isn’t enough heat. This should have been mentioned pre check in. I’m extremely disappointed for the first time with the Ardoe. Please note that all the staff were excellent as always and tried to help out as much as they could. I await your response. Regards, Chris R.

« Not as good as previous stays »

We have been coming for about 6 years in between Christmas & new year, always stay 1 night for DB&B. Lots of small niggly things marred this stay. Disappointed to arrive to find for the 2nd year running that the jacuzzi in the spa was out of action. No mention of this from staff nor an apology. The spa is one of the reasons we come. The cheap toiletries in the showers/hotel room, no bags for wet swim wear make me believe the hotel is on a cost cutting exercise compared to other 4* hotels we've stayed in. Food in the restaurant was excellent as always although we were left standing at the door for 5 minutes as several members of staff walked past us instead of seating us. Bar staff did not seem to be particularly organised, it wasn't stocked properly so they kept having to leave to retrieve items leading to lengthy wait times. Despite this we always love our stay, the hotel is beautiful & it was a very relaxing night away. It's just not as good as previous years & the spa being out of order again has made us perhaps reconsider an alternative venue for this years stay.

The web site was not geared for a family booking and the on line booking in was a waste of time

« Good mid-week break »

Despite a mix up with our booking and wine with dinner we had a lovely time. The hotel has lovely grounds, good leisure facilities and a cosy bar with a log fire.

« Very pleasant stay »

Wonderful stay from check in to check out. Excellent service. As I was travelling with my dog, the Front Office Member allocated perfect room for a stay with a dog, as I had close access for a walks with a dog. Room was spacious and tidy. Professional Restaurant Service with touches to the details. Amazing Chiefs!!! Seafood Pasta and Chief’s Lamb were something you MUST try if you visit the restaurant. Leisure and Spa facilities great addition to the stay, well equipped and kept tidy. Room Service menu has different selection of dishes which are also available in the Bar. Dunnottar Castle is just 18 miles away to visit. Overall very pleasant experience and the location of the hotel is a great and makes your stay even better.

« poor service and room condition »

When I checked to my room it was very dirty, thick layer of dust and the tea area was dirty as well. I know I booked the cheapest room but there was no even basic like tea and coffee. Any other hotel at half price will have these available in the room. When I complained about it at the reception no compensation was offered. We also had lunch in the bar and our meal arrived an hour later. Service staff seemed very grumpy and not welcoming.

« Enjoyable Stay »

Shower was very unreliable. Room was very cold on arrival. Dinner was excellent and waiter was top notch. Dance and fireworks were very much enjoyed. New Years breakfast could have been improved. Perhaps a special touch being as it was New Years day.

« An enjoyable stay with our Dog, but it could be so much better »

An enjoyable stay...the dog friendly room was very nice with a super comfy bed , nice bathroom and good size....easy access to take the dog outside. the building is great very grand. the hotel could be so much better if someone thinks about the abience of the communal areas.... the bar was a bit of a shambles and it took ages to get served.... an odd selection of music with no real style or theme... great breaskfast, polite and helpful staff

« Quite disappointing. »

We had to change rooms two times due to damage to the rooms found on arrival (holes in the wall, door handles falling off, stained towels, broken lamps etc). The restaurant was nice but not exactly worth the prices charged. Some of the staff were really pleasant, others (mostly in the bar area) could be quite unprofessional and service was poor. We were taken late for our spa treatments because reception forgot to tell the beauticians that we had arrived and we didn’t get the time back because they said they had to keep their next appointments running to time. The hot tub was out of order as well. This all lead to quite a disappointing experience. Good points: There was a really lovely and understanding lady on reception that moved us rooms and was very apologetic. The decor in the hotel is very nice and modern. The bar food was very nice. The spa treatments (although cut short) were very enjoyable and relaxing and the women who worked in the spa were very professional and attentive.
