We returned from the stay a few days ago. It was our first trip away since restrictions. We had booked a premium room, dinner and spa treatment. Upon our arrival into the room we could clearly see it was more of a budget room..worn, old room with stains on walls, sticky carpets. Lumpy pillows with a huge ridge in the middle of the bed with different mattresses on each bed just pushed together! Bathroom was dirty. Noone was encouraged to hand sanitise throughout hotel and no masks worn in any communal area. Breakfast was a terrifying experience. There was a 'free for all' in the breakfast hall and everyone was next to each other, touching serving spoons, bread etc. Not one person had hand sanitised! The tables were so close to each other that you could touch the person next to you. Covid cases are rising and the hotel had no duty of care to safeguard your safety. Despite the restrictions back to normal it was the hotels responsibility to surely ensure their own policies to not allow this to happen. We have been safe until now but did not feel comfortable throughout our stay. There were children in the spa areas, which I thought was never allowed under the age of 16. We actually saw noone wiping down or sanitising any area throughout the hotel. The hotel in my opinion needs a total refurbishment. The dining experience was very nice, we explained that we felt nervous so the lovely boy Vernon was respectful and put us on a table away from others. Otherwise we were right next to others again. Unfortunately our long awaited break was extremely disappointing and we will not be returning. Shame on you.

Good stay. Lovely grounds.

Very nice hotel. Receptionist was a tad 'snooty' on our arrival. The other receptionist was lovely and friendly and very helpful on departure. Restaurant was very nice. Staff were extremely polite and friendly. Food was very nice - a little over priced for the actual quality/quantity? Background music could have been a little more cheerful? Bedroom and bathroom very clean. Good sized room, huge comfy bed! Not noisy at all. We would return if in the area, Thank you.

We reserved a Superior Twin Room + breakfast by telephone - cost £553 for 3 nights. Requested confirmation by email but this never came. I phoned again a few days later requesting email confirmation but this again never came. The room we were given on arrival No 19 was a small room with a double bed. Not a Superior Twin Room. The room was exceedingly hot the windows were shut. We tried opening them but would only open to 6 inches. The curtains were stuck and we had to call the maintenance man to fix them. Although a fan was provided in the room we spent 2 very uncomfortable nights in very high temperatures. The bed was uncomfortable and we had to rearrange the under bedding. The staffing of the bar in the evening was insufficient. Although the barman worked hard & well on his own, queues built up and sometimes we had to wait up to a quarter of an hour to be served.

Well located

We were a bit sceptical when I rang to book dinner times the week before arrival when I was informed you had two tours staying at the hotel. We were pleasantly surprised with how efficient the staff were and we could not have wished for better service at the bar and in the restaurant. Georgina (George) saved us on both nights and was very helpful, pleasant and most efficient. Thank you Georgina. The food we had was excellently presented and also cooked to perfection. Well done the Kitchen staff. I would also like to mention Andrew in the bar. He went out of his way to assist an elderly lady who was having difficulty getting seated. Well done Andrew. All the staff appeared to be very well trained and were very helpful particularly at breakfast where they were very busy. We had room 89 which was very large and very clean. Only one comment (not a complaint) the lights in the bathroom need attention. Overall a very pleasant stay and would not hesitate to book again in the future. Best Regards Mike and Sandra B.

Very disappointing stay. Room availability was poor, reception/housekeeping failed to have room ready as promised. First room allocated was located at rear of the building overlooking rubbish bins and skips - totally unsuitable. Bar staff were OK but bar management was poor, while waiting i n a queue of only 3 people at 6.45 pm, bar staff twice had to go to get wine from another bar - the bar should have been stocked up in the quieter afternoon. Total wait of 15 minutes to get a drink! Dinner was worse. Goats cheese starter was under cooked - pastry was raw & had a teaspoon of goats cheese. Starter was sent back to the kitchen and an alternative ordered. Main course - pork was overcooked, duck was that overcooked it had turned grey, cabbage boiled to death, what was on the menu as "roast potato" was a hard, mass of something, This was probably the worst meal in a hotel we have ever had. Unaware how this is "4 star" hotel - it certainly was not from the accommodation, the food or the service,

Lovely surroundings, clean and well maintained

All the colleagues were very welcoming, our room was located in the old school house which was a lovely tranquil location to the main building , The restaurant for the evening was exceptional, the food and service was excellent, The breakfast was also of a high standard and again your colleagues were attentive to the needs required.

Enjoyed our stay

Rooms where spacious did notice that no difference in rooms from paying extra for a superior room to standard room other than a bathrobe and coffee machine. Breakfast was lovely and great selection. Evening meal we had a burger didnt think it was worth 16.00. The starter soup was delicious though. Pool was warm. Jacuzzi didnt work. Staff where friendly.

We did not feel safe staying here during the ongoing pandemic!!

Mrs. T. Couples - 17/09/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

We have stayed at the Mercure Albrighton twice yearly pre-pandemic and have always been very happy. Unfortunately NOT THIS TIME! On arrival we wore face masks entering the hotel. Guests were milling around with no face coverings and no social distancing. Prior to booking ( some time ago) I rang the hotel and was assured all safety measures were in place. On entering our room we found a leaflet explaining that because of the pandemic our hotel room would not be serviced during our stay. What I couldn’t understand is this, if it wasn’t safe to enter our room and service the room why was is safe for people to wander around the hotel/restaurant with no social distancing and no face masks? The tables in the restaurant were very close together, we constantly had to ask to be seated away from other guests. In our opinion the restaurant seating was not well organised. The staff seated guests next to each other when there were adequate free tables to be seated socially distanced. This never happened without us asking. Wait times on two of our four nights stay were very long, approximately 40 minutes wait time between courses, and one evening after our 35 minute wait for our starters to arrive my husband was brought someone else’s order. I don’t know if the hotel had staffing issues in the kitchen, however, this did not make for a restful holiday. When we were checking out we were not asked if we had enjoyed our stay which surprised us. I did say very politely that we had not felt safe during our stay and suggested that guests in the hotel could be seated socially distanced I was just told to email in! I reiterate, if it was not safe for cleaners to service our room, how was it safe for guests to wander throughout the hotel without any form of face covering or social distancing? The cost of the hotel has risen approximately 25% since our last visit pre-pandemic, we did wonder was not servicing the room part of a cost cutting exercise?

Disappointing in that we could not book or eat in the restaurant

The room was a good size although the decor was a little tired and the window blind was broken. Service in the restaurant for dinner was slow and the food itself passable, but not what you would expect.

Lovely place . Lovely wedding meal discounting due to length of time between courses other food expensive

The wedding party were slamming doors and making a huge amount of noise until VERY late in the night. My partner and I barely slept. This was a BIG disappointment. Facilities were good and the room was also good.

From check-in to departure one disappointment after another. On arrival check in staff were overwhelmed with arriving guests and irate customers. Not enough staff to cope with. The cleanliness of the room especially the wash room was questionable. We boiled the kettle numerous times to disinfect the wash room surfaces. The breakfast choices were inadequate and poorly presented. All in all an experience not to be repeated. BTW if the management wishes to see how a proper hotel with facilities are run, then all you have to do is to check out Hawkstone Hall & Gardens, Shrewsbury.

Such a disappointment. Arrived after 2pm key pickup time as arranged (arrived 2.40pm) and had to wait nearly 2 hours for our room; no apology...always told it will just be 15-20 minutes each time we enquired, no offer of complementary drink.. Hotel room shabby, with dirty carpet that was lifting in areas and sheet on bed that was a foot too short, couldn't walk around bedroom without getting black soles of our feet. Despite being well after lifting of lockdown there was no routine room cleaning during a stay, only on request; even when requested, not all usual refresh was done. Asked for maid service and asked that short bedsheet be changed rather than just bed being made....but change of sheet was all that was done.... no cleaning, no replenishment of tea, coffee, toiletries etc. Big play made of Privelege rooms having Nespresso coffee makers, which it did... but only 4 pods to last 2 people 4 days: not replenished when requested. One Reception staff member underwhelming and seemed disinterested. Low sloping ceiling corner down one side of bed with ceiling height at 5 foot directly at side of bed. Bar staff great and attentive, despite them being under-resourced.
