« Food disappointing »

Firstly all the members of staff we came across are very friendly and professional. Me and mum stayed for one night in 2 privilege rooms. Large, clean but pretty standard decor. The spa was a welcome retreat and loved the outside waterfall/hot pool. The food in the restaurant in the evening wasn't very good at all. There was a Christmas party going on so it was busy, but presume extra cover hadn't been arranged as it too an age for our food, especially the mains to come out and I had to chase it up. The starter was chicken liver pate and supposed to be toasted brioche. The pate was nice but the "toast " was 3 slices of baguette which had been oven toasted and kept for too long and almost impossible to break/chew it was do hard. The burger had cold chips and took three lots, which the waiting staff apologetically replaced, before I got hot ones. The burger was burnt and dry and the cheese was almost non existent as it'd been cooked too long. Stale brioche bun too... so bad that the waiting team all agreed and took it off bill. Shame... Mum's gammon was also tough and overcooked.

Room was great, Natalie who served us our evening meal was fab, friendly, helpful and lovely. Food was great and breakfast was. All staff were friendly. Toilets in reception and where Tessa event was they seemed to struggle to flush. Also I was a bit gutted that I spoke to someone at the event where they had 10% off their stay because they were at an event and I knew nothing about this. Next time will phone :-) But the hotel was great, gym was fab, pool looked great but didn't get the chance to be able to go in. Will definitely stay again. All staff were friendly and helpful

Room key did not work. Was offered a standard room instead. After approximately ninety minutes the lock was eventually fixed. I wish they hadn't as room 316 has a problem with the window and the traffic noise was unbearable. I reported this to reception twice. This Privilege room was definitely not a privilege to stay in.

« Pleasant stay great room. »

Room was a privileged family room, great space and amenities. Could of easily fit 2 adults and 3 children but could only book room for 2 adults 2 children so 1 child was unable to attend.

« Really great - except for the breakfast / food. »

We would have given this hotel a nine or ten. And we would have visited it again - just for a holiday. It's a great hotel (in a good location for Rochdale and for visiting places like Hebden Bridge or the moors) and it was very cheap, with a lovely room, very friendly staff, and superb spa facilities. So - it was a really nice hotel which surprised us at the price and we would have been recommending it to everyone, but what let it down - badly - was the breakfast. Breakfast is an easy meal to get right - all people want is choice and freshness. On the first day, we saw sweaty cheese under a pile of literally brown 'green' grapes. The next day, they were there again. Why were these put out a second time? The pastries and croissants were not fresh; they were hard. The sliced bread (some people think sliced bread is sliced bread, but you can tell if its cheap or stale) was tasteless, so probably both. The only good thing was the local jam, which was lovely. Please improve your breakfast. Offer a little more choice - porridge? Granola? Prepare more of the cooked food freshly on demand rather than let it congeal on the hotplate? Maybe get rid of that horrible 'corridor effect' - the big space down the middle of the breakfast room which made me feel like I was eating on a railway platform; scatter the tables about more and fill the space. Above all, THROW OLD STALE FOOD AWAY. The trip was one night for work and an extra night to make it a small holiday with my friend. So the answer to the next question is 'Business' AND 'Friends.'

We attended the evening celebrations for the Valentine wedding and was disappointed with the bar service. It was slow and even at 7:00pm had ran out of Gordons gin only premium gins available. The price for a pint of Guinness and white wine was over £11. The only other beer was John Smiths. Why not have guest beers? The room was cold on arrival so had to turn up the air con which eventually sorted it.

« Wonderful spa »

Wasn't expecting the spa to be so lovely - a separate area to the main pool with 4 steam/saunas and an indoor/outdoor jacuzzi pool. Friendly service at reception, bar/restaurant and spa. Food was lovely - overall a really great stay! Only slight downside was that my room had a locked interconnecting door which was not at all soundproof and I could hear every word the person in the next room said on the phone or what they were watching on TV.

Very friendly and polite staff. I was not warned that I would be staying in a disabled room though. It was not ideal to have a very low sink with a bad back and after hours of driving. My room had a picture of woodland stuck to it. There was a smear of poo around the edge of the toilet seat and the shower head kept slipping down the pole as the adjuster didn’t work. Breakfast was very good.
