Facade of the building looks lovely, inside parts need updating. I think staff have been let go Sunday morning was very busy at breakfast but only one lady serving. All draft beer/lager off in bar except one. Staff who were there tried hard to help. Nice large room, with very small TV.

Well were do i begin got put in a room that was like a dungeon ,dirty carpet , bedside lamps broken ,ceiling paper peeling , light on all the time we where in there ,spoke to the girl on the desk she said she would talk to the house keeper but nothing was done .Didn't enjoy our first evening meal it was rubbish and our first breakfast was a joke the waiter never listened to what we ordered so long wait for breakfast .Our last night there it took me nearly 30 mins to find someone for some ice .I came back to my home town thought we would give it a try instead of Premier but what rubbish will not recommend to anyone least of all my family it needs a good shake up .

We had a lovely stay. We were given the room in the hotel (52) which had the most history. It was amazing and was very comfortable. The staff we met were all brilliant and made us feel very welcome. Highly recommend this hotel

We had an excellent dinner and breakfast and all the staff were really welcoming. Room was well laid out. Bathroom could do with modernising (tap missing a hot/cold button and stains in bath) and there was dust on the headboards but the beds were really comfy and we slept well.

In Difficult Times

Customer review rating 4.0/5

John H. Couples - 09/09/2020 Confirmed reviews ALL

Staff welcoming and cheerful and did their best in these difficult times. However, room was very run down with cracks in wall and in definite need of a good lick of paint - room 50. Net curtains at window very grubby indeed. Bathroom functional but again very run down and while it had obviously been sanitised to guidelines, it’s general appearance needed more than just a freshen up. We appreciated that at £112 for two nights exclusive of breakfast was an exceptional deal but it might have encouraged us to return had our room looked even a little like some in your photos. We did not expect a luxury room but this one on the second floor seemed almost as if it didn’t belong to this otherwise grand looking hotel. As Accor members we were, sadly, disappointed with this particular hotel. We didn’t feel we could complain to manager or staff at the time since it was very obvious that there was only a skeleton staff and the likelihood of being able to offer us another room would probably have caused considerable difficulties for what staff were available . Hotel badly needs updating. We found it clean but very , very basic. Restaurant was a joke. We know all about changes due to COVID 19 but this really took measures to the extreme. When we entered the restaurant not one single table was set/prepared and not one member of staff ready to greet us. The menu/food was abysmal. I know we were on a Living Social deal but it was obvious that we also got a different menu. We ordered lamb rogan josh!!!!! Four small cubes of lamb and a sauce that was barely curry like. Will never return.

Bad experience

José R. Couples - 08/09/2020 Confirmed reviews ALL

When i saw the pictures online from this hotel, and price for the night it seemed to be a great deal in a good hotel. I should have look at Tripadvisor before book. From the moment I checked in until check out the experience wasn’t the greatest. On check in the receptionist wasn’t really interested about giving a great welcome. She wasn’t rude, but at same time only gave us the key to the room, did not mention which floor, where to go, breakfast and dinner time that we had pre-booked. The room had a awful smell. Most of the room was full of dust, it means that has not been clean properly which is a concern these days because of Covid. The only good point about the room was the bed, really comfortable. Dinner was pre-booked but was terrible. We came down to the restaurant, by the door there was 2 Team Members who greeted us and disappear, so we left there standing for about 10 minutes with no sign of anyone in the restaurant. After 10 minutes the same person who greeted us turned up again and asked us if we were waiting?? Well... Finally the restaurant host turn up and took us to the table. Really nice guy! The problem was his skills as a host, and I don’t blame him, probably the lack of training? But he did his best and must take the credits for that. Food was alright for a pub, I was expecting much better. Not much offer, 3 or 4 mains i believe? That’s it. And the worst to the end, ask for coffees, took about 10 minutes (doesn’t sound much but the restaurant was empty), 1 of the coffees terrible, the other cold as ice so couldn’t even try it. Breakfast next morning was alright, nice people hosting :) check out, again unprofessional, we dropped the keys and the we only heard a good bye, that’s it. My review is not about just complaint, but to point you things you can do better in the future. I do work in hospitality so I understand the ways of work in this business. You have there a great building, but is tired. It needs more attention, about cleaning and maintenance. The staff needs to understand the mean of looking after customers. I hope my review can be used to improve your business. All the best.

We enjoyed our stay and felt safe throughout. Our room was spacious and clean. Check in and check out were both efficient and friendly. We enjoyed the cook breakfast and the service was excellent. The Covid measures were very good. The hotel is in need of some renovation and I truly hope Accor do invest in this lovely character hotel. It is ideally situated only a mile from Banbury station and is only a short walk across the road from the main shopping area.

Great Wedding Anniversary Stay

We had a wonderful 3 night stay with you recently for our wedding anniversary. We were absolutely delighted that we had been upgraded to the Broughton Suite and we were very comfortable there. We had a lovely meal on our first night and breakfast every morning was perfect. We are both decaff drinkers and it was nice to have decaff coffee in a cafetiere instead of sachets, which is the usual in hotels.

The hotel wasn’t running at full speed, due to COVID. However, the staff we did meet were very friendly and helpful and steps had been taken to ensure our safety, including the provision of masks and hand sanitiser at the entrance. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The food was excellent and restaurant service was also good. Only drawback was that the bar was shuttered, due to staffing levels, although it was possible to order drinks at reception. On the whole, a very enjoyable stay.

Staying during all the restrictions caused by Covid meant that the stay was not as enjoyable as it would have normally been.

Stayed for only one night which was a blessing. The rooms were very cramped and in need of modernisation. The evening meal was very poor. Breakfast was decent. The staff were attentive and helpful but this hotel is in desperate need of some TLC. We won't be going back.

When we arrived we were greeted by Ebony on Reception. The hotel was quite and we were bumped up to an executive room. Room 142. Absolutely huge. Lovely room and the bed was massive. It was perfect for me and my 2 children. Unfortunately the next morning before going to breakfast our door wouldn’t lock but again Ebony went the extra mile. The door couldn’t be fixed and we had to move room. She knew we needed to get out as we had an hour drive to Cheltenham to visit family she she said to pack up our stuff and she would move everything to the new room for us. We got back later then expected but the new room was sorted for us. Cot was up for my youngest (who had fallen asleep on the car on the way back) and the sofa bed made up for my 4 year old. We were right next to the function room that had a disco on but my 2 year old slept fine and my 4 year old managed to fall asleep without an issue. It cut off bang on 12 which was good. Breakfast both days was lovely and my children absolutely loved the pancake machine. Check out was simple and we were off. Lovely old building and beautiful views if up high.

I was pleasantly surprised at how this hotel exceeded expectations over and over. The room was dated but comfortable with everything one could need. Staff were amazing, breakfast was fantastic. Everywhere was immaculately clean.
