Very unsatisfactory

A number of things were not up to the standard one would expect when staying in a 4 star hotel. I Emailed my complaint to the hotel "ml…" on Monday, 14 June and as yet have still not had an acknowledgement.

Few problems. The room we were given first had not been cleaned, so we had to relocate, no problems with second room. When I booked, I booked for dinner on Sunday evening which I was told was not a problem, the receptionist did explain as we checked in that the restaurant was closed in the evening at present, but they were serving bar meals, later we had a call to say the bar was closed as well on Sunday. As our son lives near by we are with them both evenings. Overall we enjoyed our stay, and will return again.

We've stayed many times at Letchworth Hall over the years, mainly as we have got to know the staff and the settings are lovely. COVID restrictions have meant that they are obviously short-staffed during the pandemic period, so need to be a little patient at times, but they will get around to you and cater for any dietary requirements.

got there no at the deck, a young girl came but said she was un trained to book us in then a young man came in all hot and bothered said to the girl book them in I'm to busy as the girl said I cant, he then told her sort out a problem he was dealing with. we booked in told us break fast was 7 to 10am we had a suitcase and bags i asked him if there's a lift he replied they are broken so you will have to take them up the stairs .he told us where to go and was totally wrong and had to log out suitcase around the hotel. we get to our room no pillars on the bed 1 towel between 2 . the window didn't have a handle on it so we could have the window open . we went down to breakfast to be told breakfast had finished we said the guy last night said 10 am she said well he told you wrong . she told us to go to the table and will ask after 5 mins she said we have a couple of sausages she could give us, we agreed on cornflakes and a cold coffee. we went out and came back to find a cot in the bedroom and the bed not made up .we called down and told them where they said ok just leave it outside where it sat for 2 days, the ceiling had brown water stains on them and the whole place needs a good lick of paint, i can say we will not be back and not recommending your hotel. we were looking at coming back as we had to move out of our house as we sold it so was looking at 5 week stay .

Easy stay

I have stayed several times before so know what to expect. The hotel has clearly seen better days but the rooms are always fine. I appreciated being on the ground floor this time instead of in the attic and it's always nicer being in the older part of the building. Still under Covid restrictions so no breakfast and no room cleaning (which I actually prefer not to have). Loads of parking and very reasonable price with the accor membership is always a plus. Staff are always polite and unobtrustive.

The room 14 was bare with just one towel, no bath mat, no remote control. The replacement remote control which I go from reception didn’t work either. The door lock was faulty and jammed trapping me inside the room, I had to call reception to be let out. In addition the extractor from the kitchen was just outside my window and the constant noise from it kept me away much of the night. This was once a lovely well run hotel and I have stayed there, as have many of my colleagues for over 40 years. Altro also refer our many guest from U.K. and oversea to the hotel. But not having stayed there since before COVID I was amazed to discover how badly things had changed. David G..

Appauling room.

It was enjoyable, however my room was overlooking the back of the hotel which resulted in lots of mosquitoes in the night. No remote control for air-con. And TV remote was inadequate. It was nice that the gym is open again, so we could enjoy the swim, steam and sauna. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Would recommend, and will be staying again.

Not up to usual high standards

Gareth Families - 08/06/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

Helpful staff but was disappointed by early bar closure, lack of room service, no tea/coffee or cups in room on arrival, no toiletries in room on arrival, broken shower temperature control, and faulty shower drain. I realise that the pandemic has made things difficult but I have recently stayed in other hotels (Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express) and haven't had any problems, so I decided to splash out on a Mercure for my family's first mini-break now restrictions allow. The hotel is in a beautiful setting and is a beautiful building but my family and I were left a bit disappointed.

Very poor all round. Room was tired and dirty, food was terrible with very few items or options, could not even use the pool as all the slots were booked out.

Could easily be 4 star

Have stayed here many times, so know what to expect. A lovely building and grounds, although needing some attention in places. This time I stayed nearer to the gym in the new end. Room was good, bathroom needed some attention. Cold shower in the morning! Male receptionist said the boiler tripped sometimes, just one of those things, just about managed to utter sorry as I walked away. Was a cheap and cheerful night away.

Mercure went over and above to keep moving our booked and paid for short stay vacation on four occasions due to the effect of the Coronavirus lockdowns. This hotel is in an excellent location, with Letchworth Garden City been very aptly named. Although the hotel was not running at its full potential, for example the lift was out of operation and the restaurant was not open (bar meals only) the staff made us feel extremely welcome and service was fantastic.

comfortable, clean and welcoming hotel.

Location and fitness centre was on point. The room was ok. Bed slightly uncomfortable. Was disappointed that there was no mini fridge (this maybe due to covid)? Reception was disorganised but I understand lack of staff.

Overall a tired hotel, and it seems to be lacking in investment - rotting window frames is one example. Staff OK but appear to be lacking leadership.

Booked a room for my use as a dissabled person, only to find on arrival we had been put up on the first floor not the groun floor, for some strange reason they have decide its ok for disabled people to have to.go up a floor, we were offered the use of the service lift, but that still involved lots of step s to use, also the breakfast room had sreps up to the serving area. The hotel was nice and clean and the breakfasts were good, but some new ideas need putting in for disability.
