We arrived on a Sunday, tried to check in at 15:30 hrs and the receptionist said that the room was not ready since they have no staff in HSKP, after five minutes she came back and said that the room was ready but HSKP did not know how to work out the plug in the sink. Went to the room and saw a piece of wood with screws out hanging on the top of the bed instead of a head board. Now how this was missed and why was left shows a lot, regardless of having enough staff or not. The whole industry has the same challenges however teams work together to overcome these challenges and provide a service to paid guests. Yes things will be missed sometimes but how these shortfalls are handled will make the difference. We removed the wood and took it back to the reception who gave us another room much smaller and dark. The shower gel was broken and needed painted on the walls and bathroom and the pillow case had black fluffs on the top. We only mentioned the broken shower bottle we felt that there was no point spending time mentioning anything and hear about the lack of staff. In the evening the restaurant was closed and the reception failed to inform about this and later on bar and reception were unattended. When someone was finally at the bar said to us that he was training another person since he was alone with no staff. No bill was presented but only asked for the total amount to be paid. We appreciate that finding staff these days is very hard , however mentioning this all the time to the guests and using it as an explanation when things going wrong, is not right. People go to the hotels to have a break not to listen to the staff moaning they should speak to their managers about their issues. Your rates did not reflect the poor service and experience. Last but not least when you Valerie £20 for a dog fee make an effort to put a treat or water bowl, is a nice touch.

I booked the hotel after staying in the Mercure in Koh Samui Thailand. It couldn’t have been further from that hotel. The Koh Samui hotel was immaculate and amazing. The Dolphin was dirty and extremely dated. The rooms weren’t particularly clean and stains all over the restaurant area. The breakfast was terrible on the Sunday with limited options and slow service due to an issue in the kitchen We stayed due to the boat show and glad we spent little time here.

Needed directions to the parking. Easy check in. Room was spacious but bland. Housekeeping had not vacuumed under the bed for some time. Bathroom clean but tired. Breakfast very nice.

We stayed at the hotel to visit Southampton boat show. Location is excellent; close to the show and right amongst pubs, restaurants and shops. It was difficult to find car park but use sat nav and put it ‘back of the walls’ and it’s gets to to a lovely large carpark at back of hotel. Charge is £5 per day. Check in was swift and problem free. Staff are very nice. We had breakfast 1 day and it was absolutely lovely. Lots of choice hot and cold.. again couldn’t fault it. The room is large with all the amenities you need, but unfortunately it needs a desperate upgrade and redecoration. The room is clean and bed is so comfortable.. we had 2 great night sleep in room 16 and if they upgrade we would return. Added some pics just to show room as we like to give a fair and honest review.
