i was stood in reception for 10 minutes before i saw any staff so i coulld check in, the bathe panel was rotton and the tea, coffee & sugar tray was filty and had tea and coffee stains as it had not been wiped after the last guest, food was far from the best

« Some shortcomings »

Slick, professional staff. Very helpful and check in smooth. All areas downstairs were modern and great. Our room, however, was disappointing for an Accor hotel - carpet very scruffy and paint stained. Dingy curtains which appeared soiled - may have been just old and shabby, but they also had paint stains. Decor OK, and bathroom, which has been refurbished, but the floor tiles were scruffy. We booked this hotel as it had a restaurant - we were short of time after visiting relatives in hospital. There was a limited range of bar snacks type items on the menu and nothing healthy. We asked if a salad could be made but they had only lettuce and tomato to offer. We went elsewhere! Have never once been disappointed with an Accor hotel, yet the staff here were doing a great job. On departure when asked about the stay we were very honest, and the guy on reception (manager?) filled in a form for maintenance of Room 27 in front of us. He also graciously did not charge for the drink we each had in the bar, which was appreciated. I hope my comments will help to bring this hotel up to the Accor usual standard.

« Surprised with the how disgusting the room was. »

Not happy that I did not get a door key as the machine was not working. Had to have someone escort us to the room to use a master key. Did not feel safe as 10 minutes after being let in the room the same person came back and was trying to get in. The room was dirty. Carpets, curtains beds have seen better days. The bathroom was in very bad disrepair. Would not recommend the hotel to anyone. I have photo graphs of the state of the room and bathroom. I am very tempted to put my comments on trip advisor

« Many things wrong including all guest room doors failing to open. No room keys »

On arrival they supplied wrong room and i had to change. No rooms keys for entire hotel. I asked for specific dietary requirements to be accommodated for and they hadn't the right foods available in the kitchen for me. No toiletry re-supplies for entire 7-night stay. Woke on last morning to majority of staff crowbarring a guest's door off the hinges at 9am.

When I arrived on Tuesday 12 November 9.30 pm, There were two receptionists on the main desk, they were not professional at all. One of them had a big coat because she said she was cold, she said I had missed my dinner because the dining room had cold. I expected this because I had been held up on the trains on the journey down to Wolverhampton. I had been travelling since 5.30. I carried my case to the third floor and decided to come back down for a drink. I went to the bar, but there was no one working it so I asked the receptionist if there was anywhere I could get a drink. She said at the bar, I said there was no one there. She came to serve me and kept her coat on the whole time very unprofessional. The room I was number 29. The shower was very small. The food was terrible, on the Wednesday morning I ordered bacon and eggs and it was swimming in fat, it was disgusting. Very disappointed visit, I went their on training and two of my work colleagues were there they also was very disappointed.

« Let down by quality. Sorry »

I have stayed many times at the Goldthorn and am sorry to say this has to be the worst for quality of room given. Appreciate the room described as standard double but for your standards this was below. Noisy people walking round the corridors is expected to be put up with, with the age of the building, I accept that but the actual decoration was very much the let down for you this time, as a whole the decor and the bathroom very much in need of updating, no plug in the bath. Asked for one and given one from another room, however it was a plug for a sink, so not able to have a bath. Bath panel damaged and loose floor tiles. Overall the room and en-suite looked dirty and dated. Restaurant and bar clean but you really need to do something about your very basic food offerings. Although to be honest what I did eat was satisfactory. On a good point your receptionist was very helpful and friendly. The barman needs to get some help as he lacked any experience or knowledge of your facilities.

« Absolutely appalling apart from the saving grace of the staff on duty that evening and the following morning. »

I arrive to be told that the room keys weren't working. An elderly gentleman (John) had to help me cart my bags up 2 floors to a room which when he opened the door for me was occupied by a lady who screamed that she was indisposed. I was asked to wait in a dingy old fashioned badly decorated distasteful corridor while poor John had to go back to reception to find another room for me. We then proceeded to cart my bags down to the basement where the corridor walls were decorated with brown ceramic kitchen tiles. My room was opened to reveal and unmade bed with blood all over the pillow. An empty wine bottle with a dirty plastic cup next to it. The detritus from the coffee and tea making was strewn all over a dirty dressing table. the bathroom was filthy. The curtains were old and fades and the carpet worn and stained in multiple places. Eventually I was given a room that had been serviced and was reasonably clean ( although it had been a long time since anyone had been near the windowsills and skirting boards with any type of cleaning materials ) . The food was basic and we had to ask for vegetable to accompany a small amount of potato and 3 sausages prices at £14.95 (really?) . The poor staff were making the best of a bad job politely dealing with the multiple complaints from the residents. One women described herself as being trapped there as she was on a coach tour and staying there for the week. Mecure normally have a good reputation and as it was my birthday we thought it would be a real treat to stay at one of their hotels. Not so. I cannot praise the waitress and the chef that night highly enough for their resilience and patience. They deserve medals

Stay was OK - breakfast was very good (recommend the Eggs Royale). Radiator, closest to bed and underneath a window that was drafty, was not working - this made for a fitful nights sleep. The hotel looks a little bit "tired" in places - needs some TLC. Staff were fine. I would stay again.

Staff were very friendly but the room itself had stains up the walls and on the curtains. The cold water tap had hardly any water pressure making my bathing experience far too hot. Breakfast was decent but my sleeping experience awful. Mattress was springy and lumpy and the pillows hard and flat.

I have known the Goldthorn Hotel since before it became part of the Accor Group and I was surprised to find it so run down and out of date. First, a member of staff had to accompany me to access my room as the key card printer was out of commission and had been for 5 weeks. Unacceptable. Second, my room was quirky with a 4-poster bed and ornate plasterwork to the ceiling and frieze - could have been very nice, but the furniture and décor was shabby and dirty, with peeling wallpaper behind the aged radiator. Unacceptable. Third, I was advised by a member of staff to be careful where I put my car on the car park as they were prone to being broken into and there were too many access/exit points to provide effective security. Unacceptable. The bathroom had been refurbished and was OK. The staff were pleasant and helpful. I didn't eat at the hotel, nor did I use any of the facilities, but it seems to me it needs to be gutted and totally overhauled and refurbished. Very disappointing.

On this occasion the room was cold as radiators needed bleeding. No one had keys to their rooms so we had to find a night porter to let us in. Will probably be the last time we stay here

The staff were very friendly and over worked. Rooms were spacious and very comfortable. The food was delicious and cooked perfectly. But the door lock was a bit of a issue. As the staff had to come upstairs to open the doors all the time. But a great place to stay. I would like to come back.

« Worst hotel experience for a very long time »

This hotel is chaotic. It really needs to close down and start again. For the entire duration of my stay (3 nights) none of the guests had door keys as the card system was broken. We had to rely on someone taking us to our room to open the door. This involved hanging around in reception waiting until someone was available. OK things sometimes go wrong but for this to remain unresolved over a 4 day period is unacceptable. My room, like the whole hotel' was tired and run down. The bathroom was scruffy and the window in the bedroom was broken. The food was extremely poor as was the service in the restaurant. Quite how it can take over an hour to serve a meal in a virtually empty restaurant is hard to understand. I booked a dinner bed and breakfast inclusive deal, but this was not reflected in my final bill, which also included items I did not book or receive. Because I had to leave quickly on my final day to get to work I didn't have time to sort this out fully. Some of the staff did try hard in very challenging circumstances, but others were morose and unhelpful. Overall this was shocking. Had I been paying £30 a night it might have been just about tolerable but I paid considerably more than this. Either bring up your standards or bring down your prices
