We stayed here for one night with Secret Escapes. This included a glass of Prosecco each, dinner allowance and breakfast. We were there during the Coronavirus crisis but it was evident that hotel was carrying out stringent cleaning processes in the public area. Hand sanitiser available before entering hotel, a member of staff spraying all the surfaces, doors etc in reception and the stair bannisters. Our room was spacious with a large bed and we had lovely view over the grounds. Dinner and breakfast was excellent. The staff at the hotel very friendly and helpful. This was our second stay at this hotel and would definitely return.

We enjoyed a relaxing stay in this lovely Mercure Hotel in Gloucester. From the moment of arrival the staff were helpful and attentive, our every request was met by the friendly team. The hotel was clean and comfortable and clearly recently refurbished. The bedroom was of a high stand with an extremely comfortable bed.

I booked this hotel for my husband's birthday and even though the hotel looks amazing in pictures, we didn't get that feel from the stay unfortunately. From arrival, it was difficult to find the reception, which was an unmanned desk, our room was on 3rd floor but there was no lifts. Evening meal was ok, but the service wasn't great, it seems that the staff would need additional training. In terms of location of our table, all guests were asked to sit by the windows at the end of the room rather than being able to choose our own table, most of the room was empty with a few guests sat near each other and even with music playing, it was quite quiet and felt awkward. At night, neither me nor my husband slept well, the bed was quite hard and the room was very hot. Decor could also be a little improved as it felt tired and old. At breakfast, most of the food was quite dry and old looking, so I asked for a cooked breakfast. I asked for scrambled eggs, toast and smoked salmon but this wasn't an option on the menu. When I went to get some drinks, the waitress came up to me with a plate rather than take it to our table. And what I saw on the plate was absolutely awful - a large pile of scrambles eggs in a weird yellow paddle of water, no toast. It certainly wasn't fresh eggs. As an improvement, aside from the decor, I would ask that the staff is trained appropriately and maybe food could be improved as well.

Despite testing times of isolation etc. hotel staff were professional, positive and friendly. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with wide choice of foods and guests were kept apart to safeguard health. Really good value.

My wife and I attended a birthday gathering at this hotel. It started off quite well. The check in receptionist was charming and helpful. However, as we approached the door of the room allocated to us we noticed the corridor smelled of animals and within seconds we understood why, as a dog in the adjacent room barked repeatedly without a let up for several minutes. It was interesting to note that as we left the room to head back to reception we saw that the dog's owners were actually present. The bar at this hotel is way over-priced for the standard of the place. Food was acceptable, but also offered at a cost which was excessive. Could it be that this hotel has delusions of grandeur, or is it just that the management has realised that it's remote location leaves guests with little choice than to pay up? The bar staff were friendly and helpful to begin with. As mentioned, we were attending a birthday gathering and it was noticeable that as the evening wore on the friendliness visibly dissipated and it was probably not the best experience for us to see a younger Spanish barman being admonished by his older, presumably superior colleague. Later in the evening this elder barman entered the birthday event to announce that the bar would close in five minutes. When he was challenged by the party host that when booking the event it had been agreed that the bar would stay open late because the attendees were all residents, he merely replied, "No" and turned and left the room. What terrible customer service. On checking out the following morning there was an item on my hotel bill which was inaccurate. When I queried it the receptionist told me it was for drinks taken with dinner. There had been none. I explained that each time I had purchased drinks I had been asked to sign a receipt and add my name in block capitals plus room number. So there must be documentary evidence for these dinner drinks. The receptionist advised that someone must have placed drinks on my room, so I requested a view of the receipt to help her identify the correct recipient. What a surprise. She couldn't produce it. If it truly existed how could it be missing? In summary, this is a hotel in a remote location with average food and drinks at upmarket prices. If you've got a dog this is the place for you. Those who prefer hotels for humans might want to consider somewhere else.

We had a lovely weekend, arriving on Saturday 14th March. This was in the middle of the Corona Virus situation. There was a good supply of hand sanitiser gel prior to entering the hotel. There was a wedding on so we asked the manager where the nearest pub was and we had a lovely walk to the Kings Arms. We got back early evening and had a fantastic bar meal. The staff in the bar were really lovely and the food arrived 10 minutes after ordering. The bar area is so pleasant to sit in and enjoy a drink. The hotel itself is very pleasant. The rooms were well equipped and clean and lovely and warm. We kept getting lost upstairs as there are many rooms and corridors. The breakfast was a nice buffet and all replenished regularly. The staff took our order for tea or coffee when we were seated. Everything was clean. The buffet breakfast was really tasty. You could have as much as you liked. Considering the media has frightened everyone about Corona - the visit and stay was very relaxing and very pleasant indeed. Gloucester Quays is 3 miles up the road - well worth a visit.

Really good. Really lovely welcome from the lady on reception. We took our dog and she absoulutely loved him. He was made to feel welcome in all areas of the hotel apart from the restaurant. Lovely hotel, lovely ground floor room (pet friendly area), lovely grounds, great location, good atmosphere in bar and seating area and good food. Will definitely be back. Thank you.

The hotel is well located, nice grounds and lots of parking. It seemed a busy time when we checked in and the receptionist seemed a bit overwhelmed, we were meant to receive prosecco on arrival (Secret Escapes booking) but this wasn’t offered. Other than that, breakfast was lovely and stay was comfortable but bathroom fixtures were rather dated.

I booked a night away for my partner to cheer her up. The heating wasn't working well in the room. It was barely warm and gave very little heat. The TV had a serious delay with the remote control, in the end I gave up trying to use it. The bed was comfortable and I liked the shaving mirror.

Hotel feels a bit tired in public areas, beds are hard and buffet breakfast very poorly organised, slow to replenish and ‘hit food’ was mildly warm at best. Staff pleasant and location for Gloucester good.

We arrived to your Absolutely beautiful location and we were met by a warm welcome from your exceptional staff , our room was excellent very clean very comfortable bed and outstanding view , Our evening meal was absolutely divine great taste great service and absolutely beautiful restaurant! The buffet breakfast was outstanding such a variety of foods and unlimited coffee and tea ☕️ by far the best breakfast and service we have experienced in a hotel .
