Hello! It was my first time in the UK. I moved to Leicester to attend a master's program at the University of Leicester. Since we are in the middle of a pandemic, I had to undergo a 14-day quarantine. I booked 15 nights. So far, so good. What might go wrong in a hotel such as Mercure? My wife and I travel a lot. I chose Mercure because of our excellent past experiences with the Accor chain. However, those 15 nights at the Mercure Hotel Leicester became my major hotel disappointment in many years. This is why: The hotel service was careless whether or not the internet wifi was OK. I had to keep working remotely and attend online classes, and my room had a very poor wifi signal. The hotel staff simply did not do anything to help out. What I heard was: "The signal is good, sir". I had to study and read a lot, and the room was too dark. I asked the hotel staff for a desk lamp and I was told they could do anything because all rooms are like that. The reception failed badly to contact me and did not receive my grocery orders for many days. I had to drink tap water and eat Doritos for 5 days. The employed Adam was not solicitous and did not help at all. I went directly from Heathrow airport to Leicester train station and then to my hotel room. My mobile was not operating locally. After 14 days, I was able to leave the room. I went to an ATM to withdraw money, but my card was swallowed by the machine. Desperately, I went back to the hotel and asked the reception to use a landline phone to call the ATM company. They simply refused to let me use the phone. I was in a foreign country, without an operating mobile, with no money and no card. polite Overall, I felt so bad, so disappointed and so disrespected by the Hotel staff. I am sure my terrible experience with the Mercure hotel may have been caused by the pandemic, but a little training and / or additional guidance on how to deal with quarantined guests would be very helpful in maintaining Mercure's high standards and hotel quality Nonetheless, I would like to recommend Miriam, whose politeness was outstanding and at the level of the Mercure chain. She was remarkably helpful, patient, and courteous.

Room furnishing was very outdated and worn out. Carpet loose and coming off the floor. No value for money at all. Will not book here again
