« A friendly welcome but a very tired room. »

The staff are all friendly and welcoming, but the room, 1411, was very tired. It was a city view room but the windows were completely covered in condensation due to the old style of double glazing. The window frame and surround had a large amount of black mould and old sealant coming loose. The air conditioning didn’t work properly and needed constant adjusting as it was either too hot or too cold. The control surround was loose and fell off. A loft access panel had a lot of peeling paint and damp discolouration around it. The WiFi was weak and intermittent, it was not working more than it was working.

Car Park expensive, same price for guests or public. Evening a disaster, limited choice available, 45 minute wait for main course, room very cold, wrong drink supplied, staff depressing and did not show any interest, background music turned on suddenly at 8:55.

« Overnight Stay »

As a Mancunian no longer living in the city, I had always wanted to stay at "The Piccadilly" (and to drive a car up the distinctive 1960s ramp that gives access to the car park). An evening event at the Art Gallery provided the perfect opportunity. As an "oldie" it was great to find there was a bath (not just a shower) and the bedroom was warm and comfortable (with a view). Hope to stay again !

« Good but not great »

Room was pleasant and Accor member upgrade on arrival much appreciated. Shower was cold in morning and I felt the gym was hassle to use given the process of requesting a separate key (first time it didn't work). Staff were helpful in resolving issue. Also felt the gym was a little small and under-equipped compared to other Accor hotels I've stayed in.

I stayed at Mercure Manchester for one night (checked in 29th, checked out 30th November 2019). I came to know that on Saturday breakfast starts at 8 am. As I had to be at GMC at 8 am, I spoke to the receptionist a night before and we agreed that I would pick up a take away breakfast at 7.15 in the morning (to be eaten in my room no 823). When I arrived at the reception at 7.20, it looked like that they didn't make any arrangements as takeaway breakfast was not there. The receptionist asked a man there to deliver breakfast in my room. I gave my room number to the man (in black suit) but I realized that he was not paying attention, so just to be very sure I repeated my room number 823 at least 3 times (or even more) and the man said to me don't worry, he will deliver the breakfast to my room in 5 minutes. I waited in my room for 10 minutes and when no one turned up I call the restaurant and they said that the man has left the restaurant 5 min ago and would be with me soon. With all this, I was already getting late for my very important meeting at GMC, so I had to call the restaurant again 5 min later and they gave me the same reply. I expressed my dissatisfaction and decided to leave without breakfast as I was getting late. When I got to the reception for checking out, they had my take away breakfast with them. I expressed my dissatisfaction with them and the lady became very defensive and told me that I gave the wrong room number to the man. This was not true and very frustrating. I didn't have time to argue and left the hotel. I stay in different hotels regularly nationally and internationally for meetings and conferences but never had this kind of experience before. Due to poor customer service at Mercure Manchester, I was late for my meeting. As I was an examiner at GMC so I didn't have a chance to eat anything before lunchtime which was not very pleasant. I think that the staff at Mercure Manchester need some type of re-training about customer services, communication, and especially if something goes wrong, how to handle the situation rather then blaming the guest. I am extremely dissatisfied with my stay at Mercure Manchester and I will share my experience with my family, friends, and colleagues and will advise them to avoid stay at Manchester Mercure. Great stay, room was nice and staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Wifi not the most powerful but other than that no complaints. Only suggestion for improvement is to include more plug sockets in rooms, this day and age a plug socket next to the bed or at least close to the bed to charge your mobile phone is useful

The hotel was very nice looking. However I did have trouble with finding the hotel car park when first arriving, this was due to road maintenance and diverted routes. Overall the hotel staff were amazing and friendly.

« Was ok but didn't meet our expectations »

2 nights 3 day break in Manchester to celebrate my birthday and take in a show. Went for Privilege room but 8th floor room seemed to be the only Privilege room and in fact didn't match up to the photos on the web-site. Also web site implied slippers and robe but none in room. Bathroom was a little tired and in need of a spruce up. Reception offered very limited coffee pods (1 type). No decaf tea available from reception and bizarrely not in the restaurant at breakfast. Breakfasts were very good but Dinner on Friday night was tasty but the portions were quite small. Luckily we had eaten well during the day and that wasn't a problem but if we hadn't I suspect we would have had to spend considerably more than the inclusive 'allowance' covered. Staff very polite and helpful but overall little things let a special break a bit of a disappointment.

Please note that we have a ramp from the car park entrance to reception for anyone who has difficulty with mobility so that you do not need to use the steps. I also apologise for not being informed of the swipe card feature of the lifts, however this feature is in place for security reasons so that only people who have room keys can access the bedroom floors.
