Whilst the building needed a little TLC it was clean. I can appreciate that there was quite a few new staff working during my stay but they do need to work on Customer relations. Most were curt and not overly helpful.

Arrived and given a room that smelt strongly of smoke. Room replaced immediately with 2 nd room . The bedroom was fine , but the bathroom, was very tired with large cracks through the Water basin , missing and chipped tiles around the bath. The extractor had a good amount of dust within it , not clean . Paint work was chipped and definitely needed redoing. The toilet did flush but you had to put some effort into getting the flush to work . Breakfast first morning , came with off milk and the cooked food looked and tasted if it had sat there for some time. The Staff were lovely and friendly.

Another good stay. Room had all we needed. Dinner menu has vegan options for both main course and dessert which is really great, one of the main reasons we have made a second visit. We also appreciate the Goose Island beer on draught. At breakfast it is great that soya milk is offered but it would be even better if the brand you used didn't curdle in coffee. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout.

Booked a weekend break here through Accor site as I was a member. Got discounted rate. Hotel was straight off main road. Hotel clean and staff friendly.

Room size was good. Shower running slow and water never got hot. Breakfast was cold so cancelled and went everywhere. Drink at the bar expensive.

Awful. Kept up until past midnight by loud music from a wedding and then returning guests talking loudly in room until 5am!! Literally the worst hotel stay I’ve ever experienced and receiving 50% refund still felt like an insult.

Attended a post memorial gathering of family and friends abs given the distance from where I live opted to stay over. The catering arrangements were not fulfilled as required - this was taken up on the day so no need to comment further. There were 2 weddings being held and not enough staff for all the events. My room was close enough to hear the band until their set finished at 01:00 am. The receptionist acknowledged the noise and apologised for not having an alternative room. The staff worked hard but there not enough nor managers on hand. Am due to be in the area again soon but unlikely to be in a hurry back to the Mercury. Nm

Two nights room only. Maybe I will try the breakfast next time. Loved having a swim in the pool a couple of times a day, and popping in for a quick steam and sauna!

Sadly, we did not get to stay at the Mercure Bolton as it was overbooked. The online booking system accepted my booking, but upon arrival I was informed that due to issue with the booking system the hotel was full and i could not stay there. This is very poor Accor. If I could give you zero marks I would!! Dire

Helpful staff, good facilities especially pool pool and gym. Room comfortable and reasonably appointed. Food well presented and prepared, grandson particularly enjoyed buffet breakfast - good range of cold and hot food in pleasant setting.

Comfy nights sleep

Bathroom needed updating but the bed was large, clean and very comfortable. The worst thing was trying to get breakfast. It was painful. No plates for toast, tea machine didn’t fill cup and then stopped working as drip tray full with having to press hot water twice. Cooked breakfast items scarce. Had to keep waiting for food to be brought out as no volume of anything available for guests. Missed out on fried bread as only realised it was being served after we’d eaten. Only one person on reception at busy times.

On Friday night the hotel was nearly deserted, staff welcomed us and were always friendly and helpful. We ate in the brasserie on Friday, it was very quiet and without atmosphere, but the food was good. Menu a bit restricted but possibly because of lack of customers as yet. Saturday night was hectic - we ate out so don't know how it was. Breakfast well handled both mornings, especially Sunday when the masses of overnight guests appeared. Overall it was good, with just the brasserie eating experience a bit soulless.

Poor sleep and poor service

Took four visits to reception to get in the room . Faulty handle on door. Resolved by being put in another room. The new room was a twin double not what we ordered. It was also near to the weddings which played music into the early hours. Resulting in a terrible night's sleep like the rest of our party. Also bar service was terrible due to having no glasses! Breakfast was very good.

We had a lovely time and enjoyed the swimming pool with our family. The only suggestion I would make is that you should make guests aware that there will be a loud wedding party if there is one on during their stay. The music was very loud in our room and went on until 1am. We had a 3 year and 11 month old baby in our room who were woken up by the loud music.

There was one issue I would like to make you aware off when I booked our stay I booked a superior room as it was an extended birthday gift for my partner which tagged onto a race day at three sisters race track on the Monday in Wigan. When I made the booking it said that the room came with robes, slippers, newspapers etc. There were no robes, slippers or newspapers and when I asked at reception was told that due to covid the robes were no longer available and that the newsagent had gone out of business so no newspapers either. It was a little disappointing as I thought it would be a nice surprise for my partner. I thought it was very strange and still cant understand what is the difference between towels and robes? However, it didn’t spoil the weekend but think you might want to amend your website as the next customer might not be so understanding
