« A Hidden Gem with great staff »

I booked a two day deal with dinner and bottle of wine included for the first night. I had requested upgrade to Privilege Room for extra £20 per night. When we arrived, the boiler in Privilege Room part of the hotel wasn't working so we were transferred to another room, nice and warm. The staff were all excellent throughout our stay, particularly Irene and Marina in the Bar and Karen the Aromatherapist who provided high quality massages (highly recommended!). The quality of food was 1st class and we chose from the Table D'hote menu (£22 for 2 courses) on the first night. The second night we chose from the more expensive menu, again good quality but not recommended for travellers on a tight budget. There is free WiFi in the hotel but you may find 4G is faster. Strangely we didn't see any families using the hotel during our stay (unusual bearing in mind the indoor pool). There is a gym, saunas, steam Room and spa bath. The hotel seems to be popular with business customers. Yes, the bathrooms are a bit dated and the shower/curtain can puddle on the bathroom floor. However the beds are comfortable and rooms adequately equipped. The highlight of this hotel is the staff who make every effort to make your stay enjoyable and are a credit to the Mercure Hotel chain.

« Great stay as always »

The situation of the room I requested was not available, but I was very satisfied with the one I got. Unfortunately, there was no chair in my room to sit and have a cuppa, but 3 beds!!! Strange. However the manager brought me one .

Really helpful and friendly staff; food was good and reasonably price (relative to other typical hotel prices). Unfortunately like most hotels these days room and health club changing rooms are tired and in need of a refresh. Pool was dimly lit and needed broghtenibf up.

Breakfast buffet was not quite rich and even out of the scarce selection some items were missing around 7 a.m. The staff in the lobby bar let me sit there for 15 mins without indicating that if I wanted to eat something, I would need to order at the bar.

« I was disappointed at the 'tiredness' of my room »

The one area that needs improvement is the decor and layout of the room itself. I was in room 550 on the ground floor; it was quiet, I slept well as the bed was comfortable, but: - the room itself felt tired and old - there was much chipping and deterioration in the painting; floorboards etc - the bathroom felt old and 'grubby' - the room had three beds, which felt strange for a sole occupancy, and I had to crawl over one of the beds to close/open the curtains

« Convenient location to help celebrate a special birthdya »

The room was clean and comfortable. Nice bathroom with loads of hot water. The staff were friendly and very helpful. As the hotel was not full a room with a better view would have been appreciated. Good breakfast though a bit pricey at £11. Bar definitely pricey.

For a short stay hotel it's fine but drinks and food are priced for business guests rather than a standard guest. I'd only recommend as a business guest

Not what I paid for this weekend stay. The restaurant was closed, we were told to eat in the bar area, normally I eat in the restaurant. Menu, WHAT menu, was told that there was NO MEAT dishes available!!!!, NO FISH dishes available,NO BURGERS,?????. What can I order, answer from waitress,will see what the chief has left in the fridges We ended up with a very poor standard of a frozen cod in soggy batter no chips, instead left over potatoes wedges, with half of a cold tomato. All severed after waiting an HOUR, to top this breakfast was not much better, coffee and hot water machine not working, no croissant, waited again for service, a poorly cooked scrambled eggs. Informed manager of my dissatisfaction. One bath towel only,

« Accommodation good, fire alarm not handled well »

The hotel was as usual very comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. However, the fire alarm at 05:00 on Saturday morning was not a pleasant experience. No guidance from any staff, people milling about on the car park in the pouring rain.

« Dissapointed with the Standards of Fittings & Fixtures within the older part of the building »

Happy with customer service but less so the condition of the older parts of the building. My room was clean but in need of modernisation as well as the communal parts around my room. Disappointing to say the least.
