I have stayed many times at this Mercure and its always consistently good. Top marks to the lady on restaurant duty for breakfast on 26th Nov. She was very good. Good sleep which is a perquisite for a business stopover. Nice comfortable bed and curtains that don't let light past the edges :).

Overall, reasonable stay. For me the staff were a let down.Reception staff were bored and disinterested. Breakfast staff the same. Everything seemed hard work. Next time I would like to see staff with some enthusiasm!!!!

Where do I start....

On arrival we take our luggage to the room. We head to the bar for a drink, within 5 minutes the barman has already stated its shi* here and there's no management of the staff, understaffed. 30 people in the restaurant, we had booked for 7pm and when we asked for our table we were told 'Ha don't think so, you'll be lucky'. We ended up eating in the bar, again barman comes over whilst we ate and starts talking! In the room, the shower had mold on the grout. We did mention this to reception. We are busy, the BBC are staying here. Annnnd! They did seem understaffed, no manager around when 3 people were serving food and running the bar on a busy Friday night. Will I stay there again, erm I don't think Mercure is for us.

Ok for overnight stop

Clean, comfortable rooms, good shower, inexpensive. No power point near the bed, which meant you couldn't power your laptop sitting in the bed. Friendly and helpful staff. Bar food ok, but breakfast very poor, food far too long under the heaters, shrivelled and dry. Coffee machine broken, no back up.

Disappointing Stay

I was incredibly disappointed with my stay at this hotel and felt it was very overpriced for the condition of our room. Upon arrival, I was concerned with the levels of cleanliness. There was dirt and mould around the windows, cobwebs in the lights over the beds, the bathroom shower curtain was discoloured and there was dirt all around the floor in there as well. Furthermore, when I went to use the toilet I was shocked and disgusted to see used toilet tissue still floating in there too! Aside from the turned down beds, it did not appear our room had been cleaned properly at all before our arrival. It was most definitely not worth the £200+ I paid and had it not been for the wedding I was attending, I would have thought twice about spending 2 nights there. We did ask whether another room was available but were told it wasn’t possible as they were full. I was really disappointed with the stay and it definitely put a dampener on our time at the wedding, especially the ‘bridal party prep’ beforehand. One positive however was the breakfast; the dining room was clean and the food provided was definitely what I would expect for the cost of the stay.

We have used this hotel 5 times before but this time we were very disappointed with the general condition of to he hotel and it's cleanliness.

On arrival, check-in was fine and all the normal Platinum status level benefits offered including the room upgrade. Then disappointing to say the least. Being a Platinum Member of Accor and loyal to the brand there are certain expectations one requires for a stay. These being a standard level of what to expect for a hotel room, > Windows that open and shut, on this occasion the upgraded room I had, the window did not shut nor lock, the hotel is situated by a road that is used regularly and on this evening in question it was a cold evening > Shower valve that works correctly, alas scolding you when trying to adjust and body jets that clearly haven't been tested or tried in a very tired looking bathroom most probably a good 10-15 years old > Heating or heated towel rails in Bathroom, there was None so a very cold room The one thing that really disappointed me most was when reporting these issues to reception the general reply was we'll let the maintenance team know. I wonder how many times this has been recorded for this room and nothing has been done and another question would be when the last time house keeping cleaned the room and reported these issues as they would not have been able to close the window either nor clean the shower well with a valve not functioning correctly. Please do not wait for customers to tell you time and time again about the issues rooms have when your own teams should be feeding this back and highlighting the rooms to the maintenance teams. So being fobbed off is the worst thing ever. I have been planning to be staying up in Wetherby on a regular basis, however it won't be at this hotel !

Nice walk to hotel. Was surprised to find that I had been upgraded to a lovely room. Was near my son and daughter-in-law and her family. The room was on the other side of the hotel away from the road. Could not hear any traffic and the room was pitch black when I turned out the lights. The breakfast was nice, the room was spacious with a good view. The staff were very pleasant. If I am every back that way, will stay there.

The staff are a bit melancholy but I would be too if I worked there. The rooms are shocking and the bathrooms worse having mould in them. Everything is dated and used. My office is only 5 minutes away but I try and avoid this hotel wherever possible. The last time I stayed there they didn’t have any pillow cases. Overpriced and incredibly dated.

Stayed one night as a overnight stop before going further down the A1. Not far off A1 so ideal location. Staff were exceptionally welcoming and very pleasant. Food was really good. Breakfast lots of choice and hot food was hot not just tepid - well done. Only downside is room needed a coat of paint and a bit of updating but considering CV19 and reduced income no complaints.

Poor value for money

I paid over £200 for a room that was not even worth half of that. It was very dated, not very clean at all and the facilities were poor. Had I not been staying for my friends wedding, I would have refused to stay there. The only part of my stay that I was satisfied with was the breakfast.

Good location for walking distance into local shops and to access free bus to racecourse. As we were attending Wetherby Races we only called in to announce our arrival and have a drink at the bar. Most tables still hadnt been cleared from previous customers. We didnt check in until after 11pm as the racing was earlier than our allowed check in time. We selected a double room but unsuprisingly we got 2 single beds pushed together. Disappointingly this also came with 2 single duvets inside of a double duvet cover which was a nightmare as we found each duvet just fell outwards to the sides leaving us with empty duvet cover in the middle. We were also disgusted to find cobwebs full of spiders in every single corner of the room, dusty surfaces and the shower tray full of tiny fleas. Obviously hadnt been cleaned for a while! Also no trouser press as stated with a double room.

our overall experience was first class. Perfect location, smashing breakfast and dinner which unfortunately took a long time to arrive, but the good points outweighed this thanks to our waiter Junior. However on arrival was asked for payment for our stay. We showed the receptionist our receipt confirming that we had already paid this. The girl on reception said she would make a note of this. Then unfortunately on check out we were asked to pay again. Which for the second time was embarrassing with a queue of people behind us. The deal we had was to pay up front, which we did.
