The hotel and staff were good. HOWEVER - The bar and Brasserie staff were “out of this world” because they certainly were not at Wetherby. The bar/restaurant staff were exceptionally SLOW. They could learn a lot from the staff at the Mercury in Haydock.

Welcome reception. Temperature in room cold. Bedding sparse. Hotel obviously has a problem generally with its heating . Obvious by number of additional electric heaters in use in public rooms!! Lack of towels in bathroom and shortage of tea, coffee, biscuits on day two.

Polite and helpful staff. We changed rooms as the toilet handle was broken, and room not very clean. Second room was very clean and comfortable, though the noise from the traffic meant little sleep was had. Hotel in need of refurbishment , great location close to family, so will definitely be coming back.

« Good location with adequate room but the bar/restaurant area was cold »

Staff were pleasant and helpful although the breakfast staff didn't even acknowledge me coming in leaving me not sure whether i needed to give a room number or just go straight to buffet. The room was a bit tired in places, particularly the bathroom but clean and warm for a cold evening and i had a good nights sleep. When i went to breakfast it was cold in the room so i went to sit at a table by a radiator but was surprised to find it wasn't on.

« Barely passable stay »

I stayed at Mercure Wetherby for 3 nights. I generally stay at Mercure because it is close to work in Wetherby, otherwise I wouldn't chose to stay there. The hotel is very tired and needs some serious tlc/revamp. Carpets are old and the rooms are showing their age with the fittings in various states of disrepair. Cleanliness is poor too, there was black mound in my shower, the toilet roll wasn't replaced in my room and there were dirty glasses in the bathroom. On the plus side the wifi is ok. In terms of dining, staff at the bar were brusk and didn't know how to work the till properly. I ate at the hotel 2 nights, the 1st night I had curry which was average, with quite fatty chicken. The 2nd night I had fish of the day which was very nice, which made up somewhat for the curry. Overall, my stay was barely passable, and for the price there are better places to stay in the area, just none in Wetherby town itself.

« Poor room, poor dining experience »

Room was tired, handle missing from the window with tape to cover the holes. Bathroom mouldy, previous guests empty shower gel containers in the shower. Toilet hard to flush. No milk for tea/coffee in the room. Dining room wasn't open so had to eat in the bar that was so cold I had to get my fleece to eat an overpriced dinner with poor service. You could not pay me to stay here again.

« This hotel is going downhill!!! »

I have stayed here most weeks for the last 20 years but over the last few months it as gone downhill!!! I stayed with customers two weeks ago and came back to the hotel at 22:20 and coudn't get a drink at the bar because there was no staff. There was at least 12 people would wanted a drink. This week there was no heating in the bar...it was minus 2 degrees outside??? Over the 20 years I have used this hotel the best part about it as always been the staff....now they have all left...really poor. I am a GOLD member.

« Very dissatisfied in various areas »

The staff in the Brasserie were not helpful. We were told we did not need to book for the evening meal but later found people had booked and got better tables. The service at the meal was extremely slow. A coach party that was booked in the restaurant took preference. On the Sunday morning we had 2 coffees before we left which we had to take back because they were cold. On the Saturday evening we needed to speak to Reception but there was no-one available so we rang the phone number as requested but there was no answer.

« Good location »

Excellent check in and check out. Arrived at 4.30pm. At top of stairs as we approached the room there piles of dirty trays and rubbish. The vacuum cleaner was partially blocking corridor. No staff around. It was quite an unpleasant sight on arrival and left a bad impression. No spare toilet roll in room and none at all in ladies toilet on corridor.

« Hotel looked pretty grim as soon as we pulled into the car park »

Exterior looked very similar to an old school. Interior was outdated, old fashioned decor and felt very dull and cold with odd carpets throughout the corridor. Receptionists did not make us aware what time check out was or what time breakfast began and ended aswell as not telling us where breakfast was served. There was also a very annoying dropping sound coming from the outside the window that we could hear all night. Would not stay again. Value for money was not good.

« Disappointing return visit »

Disappointing to find the room very cold, no heating on in November, and the shower cubicle growing quitea lot of condensation mould. The restaurant was also very cold and we were told AFTER having ordered our meal that there was a heating problem, they would move the portable heater to our table. This heater was off. When we pointed it out, they fetched another, this went off immediately - apparently the system was over loaded. Finally got a warm heater and ate an adequate meal - you don't go to Mercure for the food! The room itself was comfortable as expected. The next day when we got back from our activities (we were staying two nights) the toiletries, tissues and tea/coffee had not been refreshed and we only had a few sheets of loo roll! When we went to get refills - can't do without tea and loo roll - we were told that two staff had gone off sick. This isn't really a reason for breakdown in room service, as presumably rooms for new guests had to be finished properly!

Found not good experience trying to book in. Arrived at 12noon to let them know we had arrived and booked car in. Was told to come back at 1pm as room would be ready. Arrived back at 1 . 15pm room still not ready do explained we would go.out and come back later. Returned at 3 .15pm given form to sign realized room had been changed so I asked why. Got through her awkwardness our room was given to someone else . She dhoved two free drink voucher in our hands. All we wanted was a room At 4.20 we got a different room. Not good experience as so many people complaining . We had booked months in advance .

« OK but room a little tired. »

Booking was easy (as I would expect with Accor), reception staff and room staff fine. Room was below expectation for this class of hotel. Shower quirky and dangerous for someone my size (1.5m) as spray was straight in my face. Shower instructions did not seem to match the controls. Shower grubby (had been cleaned but needs a really deep clean). Over-bed ceiling lights (controlled by dimmer switch) did not work properly - and had they been in my house I would have removed them. The lights flashed when dimmed and I suspect either the dimmers are faulty or the wrong light bulbs have been installed in the ceiling (non-dimming instead of dimming). Kettle old, noisy and slow and the electric lead kept falling out. Drawers did not fit properly. Did not have any meals as we ate out. Breakfast very expensive. We had a pleasant surprise that the bill was less than we had been told, but perhaps was nearer the value than the original quotation. Not a good recommendation for Mercure.

Very convenient for the business we had in Wetherby and nearby places. A nice sized comfortable room with all the items we required. We could come and go at any time, parking was a great plus and the hotel was warm and welcoming.
