Terrible! room was OK, breakfast and the morning team were great very helpful. evening meal was terrible, I ordered lamb which was undercooked (mince), my main meal was supposed to have crispy cabbage but it was just a big lump of cabbage that had been boiled, I asked one of the staff and all they did was shrug and gave no response. really bad meal and the worst customer service. I will not stay again and I would 100% recommend that you give this hotel a wide birth.

I booked 5 rooms for an event at the hotel. On arrival only three rooms were available. Very disappointed, staff weren’t very helpful. Luckily the event speaker was checking in behind us and offered his room after he had got ready in his room as he wasn’t staying over night and another person that we knew cancelled last minute and we had his room. I’m not one to complain really or make a fuss about little things but this is very poor.

Staff was very nice and helpful .Room was roomy shame we found 2 dirty socks and a face mask underneath the children bed but I did hand them to reception. Our wise we had a lovely stay.

Disappointed, extremely hot and next to a sewage treatment plant

The whole stay was extremely disappointing, there was a terrible smell throughout the hotel. When I asked the staff, I was told it was the sewage treatment plant and unfortunately the wind was blowing in the wrong direction. I stayed in a twin room with my daughter for a treat away, the room had no air conditioning and due to the outside smell, I was unable to open a window for ventilation, plus out of the two windows in our room 1 was painted over so it couldn’t be opened anyway. To top everything else the curtains didn’t meet in between the windows, so we just laid there most of the night sweating and unable to sleep. We brought these issues to the receptionist on checking out and was told sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay. I travel a lot for business and I have stayed in your hotels before, so I thought I would take my daughter for a treat, however it was 1 of the worst nights I have ever had away from home. It was great. No problem check in. Functional, clean and tidy room. Good Covid control measures. Wonderful bar meals / snacks and a great breakfast. Staff very friendly and helpful. If there was one discordant note it was the lack of a fridge in the room. Otherwise a pleasant stay, Thankyou.

Only stayed one night during Covid. therefore the cleanliness of the building and rooms I would expect to be a priority. I would not expect to see stained toilet, and uncleaned bathroom floor. Also the fire door to our room was dirty with ingrained dirt. A further point, our barman did not know how to make a Pimms. The cooked breakfast could have been better, when something has been under lights for presumably some time it will dry out. Replace do not cover up and hope.

It was our 45th wedding anniversary so we booked your best room. Unfortunately it was a very hot evening and there was a terrible smell outside which meant we had to keep the windows closed. the temperature in our room was 32 degrees and we still had the smell, consequently we hardly slept. No other room was available and all the fans had been given out. Staff were excellent and the food delicious

Lovely hotel . Friendly staff . Due to Covid I didn’t use the restaurant and stayed mainly in my room when in the hotel . I did use the pool and it was Small but a perfect temperature! Love it . It was my first visit to this hotel but won’t be my last . Will be booking for my next visit later in the year . My room was clean and had all I needed . Great stay . When Covid is less prevalent I will be trying out the restaurant and intend to book an afternoon tea for my mother on my next visit .

Helpful staff, room nice and clean. Plenty of room, good shower. We arrived early so had a coffee in the pleasant garden, then went to Hornsea for the day. As we liked the garden we decided to have our evening meal at the hotel so we could enjoy drinks afterwards in the garden. However when we went out to the garden there was a terrible smell so we couldn't stand to be out there. Staff were apologetic and informed us it was a nearby landfill. This spoilt our evening as we wanted to enjoy the grounds on a hot day.

A bit isolated, but welcoming

During my stay the wind and rain were more or less incessant. The hotel offered a place to get dry, though it was not especially warm during a couple of cold days in August. Although the hotel appears to be close to a major road, there is no problem with noise. Several large supermarkets are within walking distance, but it's quite a distance to a place with a selection of restaurants. The bar was fine, the restaurant good (but with limited choices). Breakfast was served cold in a bag. I did not go for a stroll around the hotel grounds. No doubt the experience would have been very different if the weather had been more pleasant.

Dear Russell Thank you for your review and I am pleased you enjoyed your stay The hotel reopened on the 1st August and our approach has been to open up our services in our gradual way so we can focus on them ensure we are doing so in a safe way. We are now serving breakfast in our restaurant and it is an At Seat concept with the continental selection served from a trolley and the cooked served plated both to guests tables. Our restaurant menu has been reduced but we will soon be extending it so a full offering is available Kind regards David

Lovely grounds just a bit tired

Firstly the hotel is set in lovely grounds and not far from popular places. The hotel is a little tired and the bedrooms need a reburbish. We booked on an offer of new opening due to Covid. The Mercure website promised us two nights bed and breakfast with one night evening meal, we Were also promised, slippers, robes and newspapers. What we got was a bag breakfast and what I would call a snack evening meal. I.e burger or pizza. We never received robes or slippers or newspapers which is what we upgraded to. This was definitely misrepresented by Mercure and we needed up paying more than we would have had we paid for our meals? Once this hotel is back up and running on all cylinders because of its location I would stay again as the staff are very friendly and the bed was very comfortable.

We have now been open for six weeks and most of our services are now open, although operating differently to ensure covid safety.
