First of all this hotel gets it's points from the location. It is very well located! Short distance from train and bus! Short distance to restaurants in the Old town and all the attractions. The room itself was really cheap and I could see it when I arrived! Overall the look of the hotel was reaaaally outdated and could use a refurbishing hand a lot! I see pictures that some rooms are a bit updated, maybe the superior ones etc..) I got lucky that my single room was on the top floor and I had the view directly towards the old town! The room itself was quite old and scruffy! The bathroom was...well not pleasing... Nice to see the old hot and cold tabs still in place which gave me a headache to operate :D Bed was very comfy though and plus points for extra pillows! Also EVERYTHING from the corridors and next door rooms will be heard in the room. There was also a large gap between the door and the floor so the light and sounds came easy to the room. Bring your earplugs with you! Breakfast was very well presented and basic + selection of things to have! It was more of a restaurant like breakfast that normal buffet since warm food was delivered to your table when requested! Plus for that! I would choose this hotel again still... I might pay for the superior rooms though to get a bit more fresher rooms!

The best place to stay in Edinburgh! What a terrific hotel. It has one of the best positions being right next to the station and the airport bus stops round the corner. If you want to be in the centre of Edinburgh this is the hotel for you. And the views! We had an amazing room on the top floor with a balcony looking right out to the castle and the Scott monument. You couldn’t ask for better and even in January it was lovely to sit out with a coffee. But it’s the little things that make the difference in good hotel.; Thr birthday greeting for my husband, The decent shower, a sumptuous room, lovely pictures even one thoughtfully provided to contemplate when lying in bed on the roof! The staff were so charming and welcoming and it’s the attention to the guests. When enjoying a lovely breakfast this morning a lady was coughing as her food had gone down the wrong way. Immediately the waiter had brought her across a glass of water. That’s the difference between a really great hotel and a mediocre one. Times are tough for hospitality just now but the Mercure in Edinburgh has totally nailed it! I wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

Overpriced, noisy and travel back to another decade

Recently stayed here January 19-21st, upon making the trip up to Edinburgh, looked at the pictures on booking.com and thought it looked like a stylish hotel with maybe a recent refurb (past ten years etc) at the heart of Edinburgh city. Cost more than local travel lodge, premier inn and hub by premier in( which we usually use for city breaks) and thought we would treat ourselves. After receiving a sales pitch to sign up to their parent company app to receive a discount on a room upgrade which we declined we headed up to our room looking forward to a lie down after a 4 hour drive. Upon entering the room we was treated with not what we thought our room would look like (modern, stylish and welcoming) but a step back to the 70’s/80’s. Varnished pine furniture which had seen better days, chipboard style wallpaper direct from your grandparents bedroom that hadn’t been touched since the 80’s, a mattress so hard I feel that it came from the same time period as the city castle itself and walls so thin I felt like the lady next door was having her telephone conversation sat at the end of the bed. Bathroom was basic, vinyl floor slowly peeling away from the wall and bath panel and thus fitting the theme of the bedroom. No plugs at the bedside table which with the day and age we are in with technology we use daily, you would think this is a standard practice for hotels, not in this case. Even a coat hook would of been nice ( yes they had a form of coat hook in the bathroom, but as that had no form extraction I didn’t really want all the condensation going on/into our jackets) Checked out as soon as we could on our last day, if this hotel is anything to go by in regards to other Mecure hotels or their sister hotels then we will be staying well clear.

Comfy bed, Breakfast awful

Stayed here as part of a large conference party over a 3 night period. Bedroom is very nice clean and fresh good standard. Breakfast - don't bother the hotel is obviously not used to catering for a large number of guests. Food was cold bacon like rubber, eggs look like a child made them as an experiment. Dinner wouldn't bother they heat ready meals I do not think they have chefs working at this hotel staff simply microwave the food. It is worth staying here but eat else where.

The staff in reception was super nice and helpful with everything we needed. I also enjoyed the breakfast, there was a lot of variety and specially with the amazing views from the restaurant. I would definitely go back.
