« Hotel EXCELLENT in every respect! »

My wife and I stayed with our two grand daughters, we were going to a family funeral in York. Our eldest grand daughter became ill so only I and my youngest grand daughter could go to the funeral. The hotel could not do enough to help my wife with our eldest grand daughter. Nothing was too much trouble when we asked for extra towels etc as she had been sick. The cleaning staff were exceptional! The only fault I can find is not with the hotel, it's with booking the reservation. I was to learn on our arrival as we had booked it on a weekend, by telephone, the call was diverted to a call centre in France! I truly struggled to make my wishes known to the person I was talking to. He said there were no family rooms available so I had to book 2 rooms! Once we saw the size of the rooms, one room would have been more that sufficient! On arrival at the hotel the receptionist could not change the booking so I feel frustrated having paid twice as much as I needed to have. We have stayed at the hotel three times before and are very satisfied with it, food, personnel, rooms cannot be faulted! I just feel someone in France talking about a hotel in York, when he has no experience about that hotel, never mind the language barrier, undermines the service that hotel can give to its clientele. I have been advised that if I ever book again do it on a weekday as I'll be talking to a British call centre.

« Comfortable 2 day stay for work »

The hotel was pleasant and had some nice decor, however think it could do with a slight update keeping some of the features maybe but particularly in bathrooms as mine was quite tired and dated. Staff were friendly and helpful as you’d expect.

We stayed for 2 nights, the room and bed were clean and comfortable, though a little dated, however this did not bother us particularly. We would return as the staff were friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our stay .

« Great location, large parking area available »

Enjoyed a relaxing stay here, it was quite good value and an easy walk/short drive to York park and Ride station. Room was quite large and clean. Had trouble with the electronic cards which I think my phone kept wiping but otherwise a great stay, delicious breakfast.

« A very pleasant stay »

As soon as we arrived , we were upgraded to a much better room, which was a pleasant and unexpected surprise. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast and the evening meal were without reproach. This hotel is very well situated for York with a bus stop just outside the hotel. |This is by far the best Mercure hotel we have experienced in the UK ( We have visited over 10).

The stay was good but our room was a bit tired cracks in ceiling was this because we had a dog Breakfast was nice but as the heat lamps and hot plates where not turned up causing food to be lukewarm.

« We stoped 2 nights, great hotel, great room, great breakfast, ate one evening, food was very good, but the wine was overpriced for what was on offer, we had a Chilian white at £30, expensive compared to other venues in the area. »

« Could have been better. »

My wife and I booked a night away for a pre-New Year break. We were allocated room 101 which was about 10 metres away from reception. (We are in our seventies so the reception staff thought that was all we might manage.) The room was fine but there was scaffolding outside the window which looked on to a small courtyard. "I'll go and tell them we aren't happy", I said, but we thought we are only here one night and won't be looking through the window too much and they are probably full at this time of year so this is all they have. When, later that evening, we returned from an outing in York, there was a coach party in the adjacent bar/reception area enjoying the evening. Turning on the telly muffled the noise. We also found out that we were next to the lift. Things did quieten down and we had a good sleep. On the positive side, the breakfast and staff in the dining room were good. We mentioned this to reception on checking out who said we should have asked to be moved; but as I say there was nothing terrible, just an accumulation of minor irritations that spoiled the experience and could have been avoided if we had been allocated a more suitable room, perhaps away from the coach party, if one was available.
