Welcoming staff, comfortable bed, good value-dinner, bed, breakfast and use of leisure facilities for £99. However not the quality I was hoping for. Very tired and in need of decorating. NOT a spa as advertised. Saunas separated as part of male and female changing rooms down draughty and dirty staircase (you are barefoot and wet from using the pool). Steam room closed for repair. We used the jacuzzi which was nice. Morning coffee was a weak instant coffee made in a flask. Not tempted to return but pay double for the luxury spa break I had at another Mercure hotel in Shrewsbury.

Advertised as spa acess, woman at the leisure center was rude and abrupt when explaining this. Room was dusty. Food was extremely late Rude bar person who was not happy that we asked for the cocktails to be changed despite him previously explaining he had only made 3 ever before hand. Overall a very horrible visit.

A roof over my head

Pleasantly welcomed at check in. The way to the room was a bit of a rabbit den but understandable due to age of building. Room was basic, booked a double room but received a twin room but a bed is a bed so that's OK, would have been nice to stretch out though. Wallpaper was hanging off walls, key card reader on the door is coming loose, toilet handle is on its last legs and shower worked fine but is very dated. Went down to the bar for a drink and another customer (who did seem very obnoxious) was complaining that the his chicken had been microwaved for too long. Had a pint of cider at £5 which is a bit pricey compared to other hotels I've stayed in. The free WiFi was good and allowed me to get on with some work, however whilst sat in the bar another customer ordered food which seemed they stated upon arrival took a long time and was also not what they had ordered. Had an OK night's sleep very noisy from wind but not exactly anything that could be done about that. Unfortunately when I woke up in the morning I noticed a large amount of dirt on the bed sheet that had been folded underneath the mattress. All in all was a roof over my head but I definitely would not class as 4*. I'm sure the other rooms are in the process of being updated and would suggest that this room needs some basic maintenance in the mean time.

Room was dirty, in need of modernisation, bathroom facilities needed repaired shower about hanging of the wall with hardly any pressure or spray. Not enough staff to service guests at times, they seemed to cover reception and the bar/restraunt in the evenings. Only thing housekeeping appeared to do on a daily basis was the beds and empty the bin.

The building is in great need of a refurbishment. Very tired furniture including the bathroom suite, tiling, and flooring (both in room and public facilities). The bed was comfortable. Food was basic. Ingredients gave the impression of being a cheap supermarket purchase. Staff was lovely.

To be honest this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in The noise in the neighbouring rooms was unbelievable and the bathroom extraction fans are like 747 jet engines they need replacing so bad and the rooms are really tired and out dated pealing Wall paper and thread bare carpets are a big no no that is just a few things I noticed and the cleanliness of the the rooms is bad aswell human hair everywhere in the bathroom round the toilet and pee stains down the side of the toilet to all in all I couldn’t wait to leave

Staff were brilliant only good point - knew we would have a standard room but should have been clean thick dust on bottom edges of furniture and skirting boards food very poor food and drinks over priced can’t understand how you can be rated 4 star we have stayed regularly in a particular 3 star hotel which is far better than yours sorry won’t be back

Cold ! half the lights didn’t work! The floor bowing in room

The draft from the windows was bad room was freezing cold, half the lights wasn’t working, the floor by the single beds was was collapsing didn’t feel safe hot chocolate we ordered was horrible none of us drank them was really dissatisfied

I was disappointed with our recent stay. The bar service was poor, I had to look around for service. The evening meal main course was terrible, cold chips and burnt steak. I did complain about this and got some money of our wine but the meal was poor quality.... Loud music from an event played into the early hours. There was a note on the reception but this didn’t allow us to sleep! Breakfast was the high light, very good we really enjoyed it! I must admit I was very disappointed overall, I’ve never had such a poor service from a Mecure hotel before. I’m not sure whether I’d use Mercure or Accor hotel again.

Staff very friendly. Room a good size. Beds comfy. Refreshments replenished regularly. Shower good when knack of regulation learnt. Room clean on entry. However, we found the room and hotel run down. A shame because it has potential. The table by our window only had three legs so had to lean against the frame to stop it falling over! The furniture was very tired and scuffed. The cleaning of the room during our 2 week stay could have been much better.

i arrived on the 18/2/20 a day late after a car break down and was told that the hotel was fully booked, i had paid in full for the week ,the week before. i was told that my room was cancelled because i did not arrive on the 17/2/20 How is this possible when i have not rung to cancel, the manager i spook to Sara Lee was very rude and very arrogant. my company travel all around the country and i stay in a lot of hotels if this is the sort of response that i will get i will look at booking elsewhere

Well as a gold member there was no slippers, no chocolate drink and no water, the room could be cleaned a lot better especially when I stay more than 2 days, fan does not work in bathroom and batteries in remote did not work.
