« Lovely Historic Hotel »

This was our second stay at the hotel. Our first stay was wonderful, especially our room. Unfortunately this time the room we had was extremely noisy. People passing below our windows at all hours talking loudly and what sounded like bins being dragged over cobblestone late into the night and very early in the morning. We both had very little sleep all night.

Dear Simon, I received your email and would like to assure you that I have not responded because you have ‘somehow’ failed to live up to your expectations. It is precisely because you have failed to live up to my expectations that I will respond. You have read the Tripadvisor comments and our comments are more of the same – grubby carpet, poor cleaning and woefully small and inadequate bathrooms. But I will elaborate. I am an Accor member and a regular visitor to Sydney with my partner. Over the past few years we have stayed at the harbour Rocks Hotel some 5-6 times, in fact each visit to Sydney we stay at your hotel and have always had a pleasant stay. This time it was different. We arrived around 8:00pm after a long and tiring flight and were given a so-called ‘superior’ room described by reception as a ‘suite’. The carpet was marked and grubby, the bathroom not properly cleaned and the bathroom itself only around 800mm wide – woefully inadequate and, quite frankly, dangerous. We raised our concern and asked reception for another room which we were given the next day and this room was fine. We had booked for 3 nights (17, 18, 19/11) and extended the booking for a fourth night (20/11). We also booked to return to the hotel a week later for a single night (27/11). Our return on the 27/11 was an opportunity for the hotel to redeem itself, for which it failed dismally. Our room on that night must have been amongst the worst in the hotel located as it was on the ground floor, looking onto Harrington Street and with carpet that was marked and grubby, and a bathroom that was too small, too narrow, woefully inadequate and, quite frankly, dangerous. When we checked out, the receptionist didn’t bother to ask us if we had enjoyed our stay, no doubt she was fully aware that we had not. But, our issue is not so much with the staff who were generally fine, but with the hotel rooms we were given. The hotel is long overdue a ‘refresh’ and really needs a major refurbishment with attention to the poor bathrooms. We can accept that the first room on the 17/11 was simply the (bad) luck of the draw – as we know there are good rooms in the hotel - but there was no excuse for the room we were given on the 27/11. The outcome is that I have deleted the Accor App off my phone and we will never return to the Harbour Rocks Hotel – there is simply too many alternatives in Sydney to put up with second or third rate accommodation.

room was comfortable, as an accor member we were unable to use the free beverage, we ordered a spriit "pimms" and after this was made we were then told unable to use voucher. just a little disappointing, this could have been advised prior to us requesting as the bar staff saw the voucher in our hand.

very small room with window facing straight onto the street--the bathroom was an after thought i.e. to get to the wc had to squeeze past a basin--the shower recess was miniature. I understand it was supposed to be boutique, but wasn't up to standard

« Charged twice for our rooms »

We thoroughly enjoyed the Hotel, and the staff were exceptional. Dinner at Tayim Restaurant was also a very big plus. However, the two rooms which I booked with Accor were pre-paid ahead of our stay, but on check-out we were told that the payment had not gone through because of a problem with the Accor system. So we paid again at the reception. Now our credit card has been charged twice. While I understand that glitches can occur, I now have to spend my time to prove that we have been double charged. This should be on the system. Very disappointed with Accor.

« Nice, comfy, friendly and welcoming, what more could you want! :-) »

I like the Harbour Rocks because of its location, its look and feel and because it is a human space, not over the top lux, but somewhere that has a relaxing connection to the Rocks, kick back, go out for dinner, come back, hit the sack. Yes you can hear people walking on the stairs - not too loud, but part of the human connection of the place. Think about those silent isolated corridors of larger hotels, not at HR where the central atrium and staircase leads down to the comfy but unrestrained lounge and bar. Brekky in the cellar is a treat.

« It was a ok hotel but not for the price »

Staff were great, they were attentive and provide good service. However the room were old and run down, renovation is highly needed. Not friendly to international Travellers ie no international adapter on the wall mounted electrical points. The USB below the working desk were not working too. My room number was 307. Reservation staff were excellent when I need to amend my request. They were very quick with their reply.

« Perfect location, lovely room, very small bathroom. »

We only had the opportunity to stay one night, however we found the staff professional and polite, and the room beautifully appointed. Loved the little extras such as the brownies, and the tea and coffee in reception. Only fault was that the bathroom was very small.

« I would rate our stay as a 10 overall. 11 wasn't an optio. »

We were treated well from the moment we entered the hotel. Lauren and Winnie greeted us warmly and I could tell by the nice clientele we met in the lobby and their positive attitudes that we would probably enjoy our stays. Lauren was even able to get us into our room a little early as we were quite tired from being up so early to depart our cruise. All the staff we dealt with were friendly and accommodating.. « Great location. lovely hotel, shame about the noisy freezing air conditioning »

The receptionist from Cornwall was exceptional - every hotel should have a receptionist like her. Loved the hotel and the location. The payment system wasn't working i was told, so was char=ged twice for the hotel. Fortunately they saw their error and refunded me. Our room's air conditioning was very noisy, blew a freezing cold air whilst you were in bed right at your head and there was nothing that could be done about it !!
