« Freezing cold room »

Arrived to find no heating on in room - 15 degrees in the room ! Just one old fashioned panel heater (with broken thermostat knob ) but even on max only took it up to 17 degrees in 2 hours before bed. On all night but still only 18 degrees in morning - heavy curtains covered heater entirely. If you can't afford to heat a room don't let it ! Central heating in corridor tho- maybe I should have slept there !

« Comfortable »

Very impressed with the room and the hotel surroundings , but felt the food let it down . Five of us ordered 4 jacket potatoes and 1 sandwich at around 12.30pm and it took over 40 mins for the food to come , I had to remind them about mine as they came and said “you’ve all got haven’t you “ !! When the food did arrive I didn’t think it was that good , felt the portions and fillings were very stingy . Again at breakfast I felt the hot cooked breakfast was too small , my bacon was literally half a rasher , with 1 grilled mushroom , half a tomato , not particularly value for money .

On the whole we enjoyed our stay at Mercure Darlington Kings Head hotel. The room was spotlessly clean, a little on the small side but adequate for a one night stay. On arrival the receptionist was very pleasant, welcoming and informative. The bed was comfortable but a little too firm as were the pillows (at least there were 2 each). The bathroom was very clean with lovely large soft towels and a good supply of toiletries. We only have one complaint regarding the room and that was that it was too hot, we turned the radiator off and opened the window but still felt too warm. Now for the one thing that spoiled our stay. When we went to the car park our daughters car had been blocked in by another guest, when we reported this to reception it turned out they knew about it and didn’t think to mention when she checked out, the guest was contacted but took some time to come and move his car, this was extremely annoying! Consequently I haven’t given a total satisfaction report as I do think guests should be informed not to double park. We would stay in this hotel again but would park elsewhere.

« Not up to scratch »

Not a great experience to be honest. Arrived at the hotel approx 8.30pm on Sunday evening. Check in all fine and staff at desk friendly. However, no food being served other than cold sandwiches. Experience was a disaster then in the morning with kitchen apparently out of order, so after no dinner, breakfast consisted of some sliced cardboard bread and jam.

« Noisy »

We have stayed with you on a nimber of occasions in the past. This time the visit was marred by excessive noise. When we arrived at about 5.00 pm and went to our room 331 the room ext door was playing VERY loud music. I mentioned this to reception when we went down to the bar to eat. When we retired for the night at 11.00 we were disturbed by very loud talking and laughing in the corridor until the early hours. My partner eventually went ot the door and asked the two men and one woman to go away and stop the noise. there was further noise from time to time for quite a wgile.

« Pretty dire »

The bed was comfortable but the room was very small and too hot. The evening meal in the King's Grill was hugely disappointing , the food was poor and the service was diabolical, ditto at breakfast the next morning, where also there was a complete lack of people refilling the buffet. I would not stay at this hotel again. The building itself has clearly been refurbished to a nice standard, but the customer service of the staff really lets it down. Very disappointed for a Mercure hotel.

« Excellent room, poor food service »

As usual our room was good except the safe was locked, no problem as we didn’t need it. Breakfast service was poor, very slow and had to send food back as it was lukewarm, not up to your usual standard. I hope this is a one off as it’s not what experienced before. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

« Great hotel in the heart of the town »

The hotel was great with a genuine and friendly team who were keen to please; obviously well led by their manager. The room was spotlessly clean and well appointed, especially for the rate paid. Had breakfast and dinner, at both meals food and service was very good. Would definitely recommend and stay again!

« Could have been better »

I am 78 years of age, my partner 77. We were on the fourth floor. I had to carry our cases from the carpark to the room. I suggest you try doing that! And using TWO lifts? The room was clean, stingy on the tea bags. The staff were helpful, but in the dining room it was obvious that they had not been given sufficient training. That is management fault.

As always, a warm welcome on checking in to the Kings and a clean, comfortable room. Slightly disappointed by a rather bland dinner from an unimaginative menu in the Grill, but more than compensated by two splendid breakfasts. My regular home from home when events bring me to Darlington and district.

« Fair but a few things took the shine off our stay »

Great welcome at reception, upon entering the room it was very dark. The majority of the lights in the bedroom area didn't see to work or were very dim, making it hard to see properly. Floor on the landing outside our room on the 3rd floor is very squeaky, so anytime someone walked past it squeaked a lot, plus the door to the stairwell also was noisy so again caused us to wake up. Other than that the room was clean and nice in all other respects.
