« An OK visit let down by small things »

Having previously stayed in the Novotel in Marseille overlooking Vieux Port, I had an expectation of quality at this Novotel that was probably unrealistic. I booked a Superior Room with 1 queen-size bed and 1 sofa bed for my 11 year old son and I, making a note in the booking that if possible we would like to check in a little earlier. We arrived at around 11:30am and were given our room, which was excellent as we had been awake since 2:30am to travel to Marseille from England and planned to sleep for a couple of hours to refresh ourselves. However, on arriving we found that the sofa hadn't been made into a bed. I looked in the wardrobe to see if there was linen in there to do it ourselves, but I only saw what looked like some spare pillows. There was also only 1 paper cup for hot drinks, a bottle of water and one plastic cup in the bathroom. I expected there to be 2 of these items as the room was booked for 2, but it seems a 11-year old boy doesn't count. We decided to go for a walk instead and asked reception to have the sofa turned into a sofa bed. I also asked if we would get the additional cups and water but I think this wasn't understood, as when we returned 3 hours later the sofa bed was made but no extra water, etc. I was also surprised to not find the kind of nice washroom toiletries (individual soap, shampoo, etc) seen on the images on the hotel website. Rather, it was the more Ibis-Budget universal soap dispenser on the wall in the shower. The positives. When we arrived back from the football at the Velodrome in the evening, we had a drink in the bar and the staff were excellent. Indeed, all of the staff we met were friendly and polite. When we went back to the room we found the beds comfortable and the room temperature ideal. Breakfast the next day was fine, but again let down by small things. You were able to make your own fried egg, but there was no utensil to actually manage (such as turn over) your egg. I used a teaspoon from my table and I saw others doing similar things. The bread toaster was damaged, in different slots either not toasting bread or, amusingly, toasting on one side of the bread only. But those are small things and other than that the food was ok. So in short, the hotel is in a great location for the Velodrome and is also only a couple of Metro stops to Vieux Port. The rooms are spacious, if a little uninspired and the beds are good quality. It's just the small things that made my stay feel ordinary. I expect, when booking a room for 2, for the room to be set out for 2. I expect, when booking a sofa bed for my son, for the sofa bed to be made up when I get into the room.

« Quiet and comfortable in a good location. »

We arrived very early, around 9a.m., after an overnight ferry trip from Corsica. So we were overjoyed to be immediately given the keys to our room! And to find an available parking space in the hotel's garage - at a very reasonable 21€ for 24 hours. All the staff that we encountered were extremely pleasant and professional. Our room was spacious, well decorated and very comfortable. The only niggle was breakfast where we arrived just after 9 to find that the hot food was limited to scrambled eggs (excellent) but no bacon (finished and not replenished). Fruit for cereal was tinned or dried. In general, rather disappointing.

« Overall my experience was a good one, with a clean room and friendly, helpful staff. »

Overall the stay went well. The staff were friendly and helpful (eg, reserved a cab for 4am pick-up to the airport), and the room was clean. There was a strange odor in the room I stayed in for the first 2 days, but it seemed to clear up on the third day.

« Convenienet hotel at a nice neighborhoud »

nice neighbourhood, typical Novotel, spacious suite with nice balcony, very good breakfast, easy public parking just next door . The only problem was a very bad smell in the one room when we arrived late night. We reported it next day but they could not fix it and the next night they offered us a room change . We did not like to move for just one night so eventually they have us a discount, fair. So overall happy with the response of the hotel management

« Functional hotel »

The hotel is clean with exsreamly helpfull staff but certain aspects could be improved with more thought one very dangerous point relates to the in bath shower the side of the bath is very high for guests under 6 feet high my wife and I who are of average height found it difficult to step over edge to get into the slippery bath making a fall likely this danger could be prevented with a simple handle on wall to help. The bathroom mirror is positioned to high which when looking into it only the top half of face was visible which was difficult for my wife to apply make up. The rooms were clean and functional but did not have a cosy feel more I feel for a bus sines guest rather than a Holliday visiter.

We chose the hotel for a three night stay and it was a very good decision. The room was large, the balcony with views over the city was fine, the house was clean, the service very friendly and helpful.

« Modern hotel in good location »

The room was very nice and modern. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel, although there was a major problem (that should be easy to fix): there was a horrible toilet smell coming from the AC. It was particularly bad in the room (such that I had to turn off the AC despite of the heat), but also noticeable in the lobby. The AC lacks maintenance.

Stayed in a room with 4 people (2 kids) and a balcony. Only a couple of parking spaces. Two Tesla chargers (slow). Lot of choices at the breakfast even near closing of the buffet. Subway is a few meters away

« suitable location »

unfortunately nothing special, due to the good location with regards to the area of my business we selected the hotel. having stayed in several NOVOTEL's we expected the 4-star treatment which unfortunately was not shown. for the same quality we could have gone to the IBIS hotel around the corner which would have been cheaper. the 4 star notation is to be earned because that it is written on the door does not mean anything so tell your staff to EARN IT. (and upgrade the hotel it self as it is clearly lacking maintenance)

« Ok hotel.. odd breakfast, horrible beds, strange staff »

I think the title may suggest I want happy with the hotel, but it's a bit harsh.. The location is a bit out of the way, although very handy for Perrier metro stop. The lobby had a strange smell, and the ceilng leaked a lot I've night (possibly explaining the smell). The room was lovely, great balcony and high view, although the view is of mostly buildings, there are some things in the distance which makes it pretty. The mini bar has random stock items in it, depending I believe on what they had on the trolley. The shower leaked all over the floor (room 714) but there were plenty of towels to no this up. Service the shower screen. The bed.. I suppose a significant reason for my lower than perfect score, is awful! A sponge pad with ill fitting sheets. Really poor week of sleep due to this. Great Room service though, and they always came in regardless of what time we left the building. Breakfast was odd. Some days the staff could be bothered to get plates out, others they just stood and glared at the customers I think this is a leadership issue, and you should consider training your manager to manager rather than watch. New pans needed at the egg station.. they all stick.

« Good but not grat »

Good room, excellent welcome but compared to other Novotel I stayed at in the past, the overall experience was disappointing : - awful smell when you enter the lobby - awful smell when I entered my room. So much so I had to ask to change it - no gym, no pool, no entertainment.
