« Great but testing. »

Staff excellent & friendly, breakfast & dinner excellent; the only shortfall was no bath. The testing component refers to being stuck in the elevator. Another minor obscurity was the size of a single shot of whiskey. If relevant, try not to seat anyone with long legs on the wire chairs, they cut into the hamstrings.

« Beautiful room but no club! »

Lovely new hotel - rooms are really well fitted out to the usual high Sofitel standard. I had lovely meals - dinner and breakfast - in the restaurant. My only thing was the lack of the Club which I really enjoy when there is one in the hotels I stay in. Would I stay again? Yes it's very coveniently located and very nice hotel.

I like the Sofitel brand. This is my second visit. And it has gone downhill. This is a small cramped hotel because of the situation. There is no spa. The bar is cramped and not great. The bedrooms are the more basic than those in Europe or UAE. But. Usually the staff and food in the restaurant make up for this. On this occasion I wasn’t impressed to be served New Zealand Cheese advertised as French, nor that it was the rind. In fact all of the food was overly complicated and not to my taste. But that is my problem. Just be warned there are some very odd combinations of cold, tepid and hot on the same plate (I had the pork Belly which was very strange) but the cheese platter was a sad joke for which there was only a shrug from the kitchen. I suppose it was a Gallic Shrug? So come on Sofitel. All the bonjours in the world can’t hide a lack of kitchen pride. The chef should have been ashamed. Anyway they did apologise a few days later. I meant to check if they had changed the menu to reflect the fact that the Brie is from NZ.

Superb. Rooms were furnished with taste and elegance. The practical items were outstanding - deliciously comfortable bed, a shower I didn’t want to leave. Hermes toiletries were divine. The restaurant breakfast was perfect. Highly highly recommended.

I was very disappointed with the overall experience. I have been an Advantage member since 2001 and my husband and I are also an Accor Vacation members (Traveller’s membership) We have travelled extensively and stayed at 5 star hotels, not necessarily with Accor hotels as we wanted to experience what other 5 star hotels can offer us. I can honestly say that Sofitel New Zealand doesn’t have the same standard as the Australian Sofitel experience of what it feels like to be spoilt. My husband and I spent our first night in Wellington at the Intercontinental hotel and we were spoilt with a bottle of champagne waiting for us on ice in our room and plus the staff couldn’t do enough for us. I have always been very proud to be an Advantage Plus Member but my experience staying at the NZ Sofitel did not meet my expectations. I also bought a membership for my niece in law Tracey Bevan in 2018 because I wanted her to experience what it feels like to be a member and I hope you take this on board.

Our stay was pleasant, however we were not happy about the bar area. we arrived late at the hotel, around 7.30pm. we went straight down to the bar and several of the seating areas were available but had dirty glasses and dishes on them, or had not been wiped down. we were entitled to a Luxury escapes voucher, a wine and tapas platter - the platter had 3 things for each of us, a bit disappointing. then when we checked out were charged the full rate for our food and beverage until I advised that we were entitled to 15% discount for this with the voucher. I would imagine there were a lot of people who purchased this voucher and there was some simple way to tag these guests on your system so that it didn't get missed
