Poor customer service

TripAdvisor rating 1.0/5

VeronicaL304 TripAdvisor review

Very disappointed in this hotel. We stayed here on Friday 29 April (booked 2 rooms) My husband and I are both Platinum members and have never had such a poor experience. Owner refused to accept that we were Platinum members insisting that the room that my husband (Rob Noble) booked was for a Silver member and refused to provide the free breakfast. It is also disappointing that they have a policy of not allowing people dine there if they are not staying there even if they are Platinum card holders. Unfortunately we had already prepaid for the following Friday night (6 May) so had to stay there. I will never use this hotel again. Staff were rude and as a regular user of Accor properties, I do not believe it is at the standard of a Mercure property. We are happy to provide additional information as required. Dr Veronica Lunn

The staff were friendly and nice. Once COVID has fully passed and travel is back to normal seeing this hotel busy will be amazing. Such a gorgeous property that deserves to be busy once again with people all around the grounds and corridors. Lovely people and family.

the hotel rooms are spacious and staff friendly. The grounds are good too. However; attention to cleanliness needed inside the room especially in pandemic time. The hotel actually has much potential and is of good value.

Really quaint place

The building looks old from the outside, but the inside is really quaint and a real surprise. It was good to read about the history of the building. I think they are short staffed. The lady taking and bringing out the breakfast orders was on her own.

There was way to few staff. They were expected to look after reception and the restaurant some distance away. There were some grubby carpet corners that hadn’t seen a vacuum for a while. The sheet on our king bed didn’t fit and couldn’t be tucked in on the side. Staff didn’t seem to know much much about what Accor membership benefits were..

Nicest motel in the area. Beautiful setting and building. Seemed a bit quiet, maybe due to Covid restrictions still. Breakfast was adequate but slow. VERY disappointed there was no Club Sandwich on the Room service menu. I always think this is a standard in hotels for business travelers. I had to go out to get one

We had a very pleasant three nights stay at this hotel which makes an excellent base for visiting the Hunter Valley wineries and other attractions. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed and all staff were friendly and helpful. The food is plentiful and of very high standard.

Fantastic atmosphere, incredibly friendly staff, relaxing bar and along, great spacious rooms. All with style, easy to find, plenty of parking, and the old jussi pub around the corner. We had a remarkable weekend, and I will stay here again, It is also close to the airport, or to the highway.

I have to say our room was clean and the bathroom was modern. But the exterior and interior needs a bit of TLC . We had dinner there and it was very nice. Breakfast was lovely and large portions. Overall a pleasant stay. Staff was pleasant and helpful

An eclectic hotel with very helpful staff

This was our first trip since COVID - and the staff at the Monte Pio made us feel very welcome - especially Monique at reception who was joyous in her greeting. The rooms were modern and the hotel itself is an older building with eclectic styles of decoration and our children enjoyed exploring the stairs and facilities. The only downside to our stay was the fact that the room was noisy at night (pipes clunking in the walls) which affected our sleep - otherwise a great time was had by all.

Attention to detail

My wife and I stay at this hotel while we are looking for a home in the Mailtland region. We are concerned that the attention to detail in the Hotel is falling. House staff are trying so hard to please the customers (and they are), but is up to management to see that there is consistancy in the rooms and resturant conditions. For example, no spoons in rooms for tea/coffe, breakfast - my wife ordered a plain omlette, as she was eating it she uncovered a plastic bread clip INSIDE the omlette. On asking the wait staff on duty about this it seemed that no one knew how it got there. Hard to believe.

Good value & Very handy when visiting Maitland

Monte Pio is a great spot if you're visiting the Maitland area. The building is a heritage building & has the old world charm. The view from our room was lovely. The decor was alittle outdated in the room however usable. The space in the room was excellent for our needs (travelling with a 3mth old we chose a double bed & single bedded room & there was plenty of room to move & store bags & a pram).

Great stay, room with amazing spa bath! Monique was a great host! Felt very safe with many COVID measures in place. A lovely historic place to stay close to the centre of Maitland. Would definitely stay here again.

Nice rooms, quiet location. Bit of a rabbit warren layout of rooms. Receptionist had several roles but over the top with her customer service, on verge of annoying. I ordered scotch fillet and received an overdone tough sirloin instead. Mentioned this to the waitress and she said they had run out of scotch fillet even though there was only one other person in the whole restaurant. Handled very poorly.

Monte Pio Hotel Historic Maitland

My husband and I had an overnight stay at the historic Monte Pio. We were attending a small reunion locally and chose this hotel for its historic beauty. However, we felt the service was lacking and the facilities wanting. I had to recheck my reservation because I was sure the hotel staff made a mistake and had thought I was a lone traveler. The bed seemed sooo small and yet it was supposed to be a queen size. I had paid for 2 x breakfasts and they had us down as only 1. I was given a welcome drink, only 1 when there were 2 of us. I had arranged a late check out but we had been locked out of our room after 10am. Breakfast was a bit of a hit and miss. Staff stated they could not provide tea cups due to COVID 19 and so only the small coffee cups were set out. It just did not live up to expectations.

The reception staff were lovely and friendly and made checking in under corona conditions easy. The rest of the stay not as great. The hotel felt neglected. Our room was tired and in need of TLC - curtains didn't fit properly, there was a lingering smell of old cigarette smoke, only one mug provided for tea/coffee. Worst of all, despite being the middle of winter, there was no electric blanket provided and only scratchy blankets, no doona. We were cold all night.

A nice place to stay

We have stayed at the Monte Pio before and this visit didn't disappoint. Friendly and helpful staff. The room was nicely appointed in a peaceful location. The onsite restaurant has a varied menu and the meals were tasty.

Something not quite right

BC001 Families - TripAdvisor review

This place has potential, but we found it to be a slightly disconcerting experience. Effort was made to refurbish the property but it's a bit hit and miss. For example in the lobby/guest foyer there were lots of half unpacked card boxes lying around as if the hotel was in a state of disarm. When I checked in the receptionist put my children and I in two rooms (as requested) but in opposite sides of the hotel. I assumed we'd have to put up with it because the hotel was busy - it was just after Christmas - but no, we later realised it was practically deserted. It felt like ghost town with no staff around and one or two other people. Breakfast was an odd affair. When I asked about it I was told 'the hot breakfast is $22 but we don't currently have a hot breakfast'. Instead there was probably the lamest 'continental' breakfast (which continent - Antarctica?) I've ever seen. Think a broken coffee machine, toast that took about 5 mins to toast, sad looking pastries and rice bubbles. I felt a bit sorry for the owners and the staff and hope they can turn this place around. As I said, it has potential but being in the middle of nowhere (sorry Maitland) isn't doing it any favours. BTW it is an old heritage building having been a convent, school and orphanage. It's easy for your imagination to run wild as it does feel a bit eerie, but I'm sure that comes from us watching too much TV.....
