Very disappointing

Customer review rating 1.0/5

Nathaniel C. Families - 15/06/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

This was the first hotel we have stayed in since summer 2020 and we were looking forward to it. However, it felt tired, the fold-down sofa bed for my son was so uncomfortable it wasn't possible to sleep on it, and the cups, glasses and bathroom were dirty – which is inexcusable at this time when you claim our safety and comfort are your utmost priorities. The light beside the bed didn't work, just flickered. The bathroom mirror was broken. The curtains had holes in. I was emailed to upgrade to a river view, but this didn't happen (we could “crane our necks”, apparently to see a sliver of Mersey). There were only enough towels, shower gel and other provisions for two people even though it was a family room. There was an ironing board in the cupboard that looked like it had been deconstructed by Alan Partridge. I'm making light of it, but this was so incredibly disappointing, especially for over £100 per night.

Apart from the ridiculous restrictions, it was very good. A shame the terrace bar was closed in such great weather. The staff were friendly, cheerful and helpful. One sour note (literally) the free prosecco was horrible.

Stayed for 3 nights, upgraded to a river view room and the view was amazing. All staff were very helpful and the buffet breakfast was well organised and had a good range of things to choose from.

excellent room with views on the 10th floor worth the upgrade

We had a warm welcome, and helpful directions as to how to park the car. Our room 614 was lovely with a wonderful view. Minor issues with room - toilet roll holder hanging from the wall, and toilet stopped flushing during stay, but this was repaired before we returned later in the day. Breakfast was good, and staff were again lovely and helpful. The restaurant and bar area seemed a bit tired, and the Vu bar was closed so we didn’t see that.

Good position & view. Well looked after.

Well located but very dated

Dave G. Couples - 11/06/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

A well located and organised hotel, very near excellent restaurants and bars. The staff were very helpful and friendly. However, the hotel is now very dated and, certainly in our ‘privilege’ room, double glazing units with no openings had been put on the inside of the original single glazing units which were damp and rotting. This meant that the excellent view of the river Mersey and the Liver building were obscured by condensation and dirt that was trapped between the units. Overall this is still good value if you get a decent deal.

Excellent hotel, Martin on reception is amazing, so helpful. The hotel is excellently positioned for some fantastic views of parts of the river and liver building. We were staying there, due to attending my sisters funeral, that made it so much easier. I recommend this hotel

Dear Roy, Thank you for your fantastic review although our apologies it was in sad circumstances. I'll be sure to pass your comments into the team and in particular Martin. Please don't hesitate to contact me directly in the future should you be returning for Liverpool for a more enjoyable reason. Kind Regards Alan alan.shaw@accor.com

Dirty and cold

holidayman2020 30/12/2020 TripAdvisor review

Extremely run down hotel. The most dirty Accor hotel I stayed in over past 20 years. Stains on the walls, carpets, dirty curtains. Courtesy glassware lipstick stained. The bathroom entirely neglected. Chipped bathtub, lit mirror didn't work. Squeaking room doors, poor lighting, dust. Erratic heating system. Extremely limited choice from restaurant ( all dishes contained rice). Room bins without liners. Smelly bins. Lighting in the wardrobe didn't work. The cark park had insufficient lighting. Excellent location

Dear holidayman2020, Thank you for your review although I'm very sorry you were disappointed. Whilst this is not the typical level of feedback we receive from our guests I'd be keen to obtain some further information from you and would appreciate if you could make contact with myself directly. Kind Regards Alan Shaw General Manager alan.shaw@accor.com

The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly despite the additional challenges of covid. The hotel has a fantastic location, our room on 10th floor overlooked the Mersey. We had a good evening snack in the bar area although you could take food up to the room if you preferred.

Disappointed

sandra3232020 23/07/2020 TripAdvisor review

Great location and good view from room. Car park expensive, especially as not actually attached to hotel, a short walk away. Advertised as including full breakfast, which we felt was very poor. We understand restrictions due to Covid, but pubs, cafes and restaurants able to offer hit food. Breakfast in a bag, consisting of cold croissant, pat of butter and jam, yogurt, also small carton of orange juice- no knife, spoon or serviette. We paid extra charge for breakfast, we would not have wasted our money if we had been told this was all that is available. Dining room not open, so had to go down to collect and then take back to room, there was a charge of £5 to have it taken to room! Shower in bathroom was a joke, just dribble of water, although bath taps worked fine. No room cleaning, due to COVID, which we understand, but should have been told before booking. Had 4 pillows, but only 2 had pillowcases on. All in all, we feel overpriced and below standard, even with taking COVID issues into account.

Dear Sandra, Thank you for your review and I'm sorry that you were disappointed. Guest feedback is vital in the continual evaluation and improvement of our business and I can assure you that your comments will be discussed at length with the team here onsite. We have needed to make some amendments to our service offer here at the hotel due to COVID-19 and I'm sorry that these changes had a negative impact on your overall satisfaction. I do hope you find opportunity to join us again in the future and would look forward to welcoming you back once our full services resume. Kind Regards

Thank you to all the staff at the hotel for providing a clean and safe environment during these uncertain times. Stayed in the hotel for 3 nights for work. Simple grab and go breakfast. Small selection of evening meals delivered to your room.

Bad Experience.

hasgeirsson Business - 15/03/2020 TripAdvisor review

The worst Mercure Hotel I have stayed at. The service was very poor at the reception, the room was warned out and needed refurbishment even though it was a superior/deluxe room. The breakfast was poor and not up the standard at Mercure hotels and other four star Accor hotels. Overall very bad experience.

Dear hasgeirsson, Thank you for your review and I'm sorry you left disappointed. Guest feedback is vital in the continual evaluation and improvement of our business and whilst typically the feedback that we receive in relation to our hospitality and quality is extremely good please rest assured that I will review your comments at length with the team here at the hotel.
