Excellent hotel, Martin on reception is amazing, so helpful. The hotel is excellently positioned for some fantastic views of parts of the river and liver building. We were staying there, due to attending my sisters funeral, that made it so much easier. I recommend this hotel

Very enjoyable stay

Positives: The view across to the Liver building & the Mersey - absolutely beautiful especially at night seeing the Liver building lit up. Although there was minimal interaction, the two staff members I encountered were polite & professional. Negatives: Glass partition had mould around the bottom edges. There was still hair in the plug of the bath that hadn’t been cleaned out. There was two pubes/body hair on the wall of the bathroom that hadn’t been cleaned. No toilet brush. Toilet roll holder that was attached to the wall was half hanging off the wall. Paint starting to peel away where the wall meets the ceiling. Bedroom/Room: Stains on floor/carpet that should have been cleaned/removed. There was a hair clip on the floor that did not belong to my wife - clearing the floor hadn’t been hoovered before our stay. Not sure when it had last been cleaned but it wasn’t to the expected standards - plenty of dust on all surfaces. The reason why we knew this is, we brought our own antibacterial wipes to wipe down all the surfaces for our own COVID precautions. The wipes all contained a build up of dust. Sofa bed: Quite possibly the most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever slept on. Felt like there was no padding to the mattress at all. We originally meant for our daughter to sleep in the sofa bed but even she complained about how uncomfortable it was so we swapped I pulled the short straw. External windows: Filthy, not been cleaned for months - not a significant issue and appreciate that it’s a cost that the hotel needs to make and save given the impact of COVID but once lifted these all need to be cleaned to ensure any future guests staying in the room get the best views out across the city. On reflection it’s such a shame that the room & facilities were not to a good standard as this hotel/room has the potential to make it such a welcoming stay. Would certainly suggest that given the down turn in occupants that this is an opportunity to use the facilities teams to go through and give each room a thorough deep clean from top to bottom - e.g. cleaning/clearing away the mould around the shower partition, clean out the plugs, repaint to the walls.

Working away from home has become the norm for me I'm in hotels four days a week . The Mercure is a very clean and spacious hotel situated in liverpool right opposite the liver building. Upon arrival I was greeted by the star of this review deppie but more about her later. There are signs to remind you to wear a mask and hand sanatisers are dotted about the place. You check in relatively easy and are given a menu of classic meals which you can order from room service and pick up from reception all contact free. My room was very clean and very well presented and modern with a big flat screen TV on the wall and a big shower great for a nice long relaxing shower after work. Soap shampoo and shower gel are provided and the towels are clean and neatly folded. The bed was really comfortable and inviting nother amenities included hair dryer kettle complimentary tea and coffee and air conditioning unit. But back to the star of the show deppie . All the staff I came into contact with where polite and professional but deppie was wonderful she always seemed bright and energetic and treated everyone in the same curtious friendly professional manner which is made even more impressive since the extra responsibility that has been put on all members of staff during the current climate. Well done to everyone at the Mercure

Having spent a few weeks at the Novotel Ipswich I was expecting a similar experience with it being of similar standard even given the circumstances we are trying to work in. Not so. Dinner menu very poor. £12 for a portion of lasagna and two pieces of garlic bread, not even a bit of salad, in fact no salad on the menu at all !!!! No starter or dessert. Novotel had a limited menu but had something like 4 starters, a couple of desserts and a fair choice of mains including steak. All served in the room but a good service. Breakfast was a bacon roll (you could have a sausage bun but not both), croissant, couple of cheese strips, small child size carton of juice and an apple that was soft for £10. Ipswich choice of full hot breakfast or continental. The down side to the hot breakfast was that it was served in Styrofoam container and the toast used to go soft. Bar closed - Ipswich semi open so draught beers were on. Liverpool £5 for a can of bottom of the tree lager from a cabinet in reception. As for the room. Thought I would have a suit. The best part was the bed was comfortable and the TV's were good although for some reason some of the Freeview channels did not work. Opened the cupboard doors, one fell off as it came away with the hinge. The kettle switch kept cutting off and as for the bath robe I reckon they were for possibly size 10 women. I am big but not massive. It just to say met in the middle with the sleeves at three quarter length. Considering this was a suit, which was a nice layout it was definitely not value for money. My first choice was the Novotel in Liverpool but it was fully booked. I should have stayed at the Crown Plaza over the road. I spend a great deal of time away and it is very rare I ever complain. In fact I reckon in the last 10 years I have only done it 3 or 4 times. It is not a habit, unlike some people, that I have. I always say you look at what you pay and then see if it was value for money. I do not feel this was. All hotels are having problems at the moment and there are still overheads but if you want customers to come back after this lot lifts then you need to look after the guests you have. Novotel Ipswich I would always go back to and recommend. There was no point in saying anything to the staff, or the couple I did see. I was not offered the complementary drink on arrival and when I checked out I was not even asked if I had a pleasant stay. All in all a poor experience.

Great location, not such a great stay

S. Couples - 08/01/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

We had to stay away from home due to a gas leak and no central heating and we wanted a restful night during such stressful times, what we got was far from that. The first superior room we had booked had dirty towels, a broken phone and no bath even though we requested a bath through booking.com. We were changed to a second room with no apology just a 'that's no good' from the receptionist, then the second room had no working heater, a man came out and told us it would be on in ten minutes when it was apparent the system was not working and not lit up! We went back to reception for a third time and got moved to a third room which wasn't superior, far smaller and had no view unlike the one we had booked. We rang and complained and were told it would be written up and we'd get a part refund! We were then kept awake by noisy guests above and had to call reception three times to sort it out. After a night of absolute stress and disaster, we got a full refund and finally got an apology from reception for the horrendous stay we had experienced. Not the standard we would expect from a hotel like Mercure and especially not during a pandemic.

Another perfect stay

Booked a cheeky few days....the only breaks we have had have been at the Atlantic Tower and the staff have made us feel like we have had a little holiday each time

Bit noisy and room quite cold

Booked during tier 2 Covid restrictions, moved to tier 3 after booking in for our 1 night stay so breakfast changed from stit in restaurant to take out (which was pretty good though) Requested quiet room but placed in room by junction in corridor by lifts so quite noisy between 11pm and 12:30am with people returning to rooms. I found it Ok but my wife wasn't happy with the room temperature as it was cooler than typical, in fact coldest hotel room ive ever stayed in ! Staff good to excellent including personel call from manger prior to stay.

Room doesnt match the description which shows in the pictures

This was the first time we had managed to get anywhere in the UK since July. Our stay was really great, the staff really, really friendly and helpful The room was huge, clean and fresh, the bed exceptionally comfortable Breakfast was good, with the service (especially during these times) excellent and could not be faulted The location, seems a little on the edge of things, but it is literally 10 minutes walk to Liverpool One Overall a great time for us both

We stayed for shopping. It's our second stay. We use the Travel Zoo deal that we find superb. Car parking is secure and reasonable and the superior rooms we have give a panoramic view of the Mersey. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Checked in room 822 the room had a strong smell of cannabis and toilet was dirty not been cleaned. Moved room to 722, toom cleaner however still very dusty, bathroom could be cleaned better as not to what I would normally expect in a hotel. Heating in room didn't work so was cold all night, we were put into Tier 3 morning of departure and had previously ordered a full cooked breakfast. It was only by chance as I went to buy some snacks from reception that I asked if breakfast would still be served yo which I was informed it was now a grab and go which I had to order do felt communication could have been better as I should have been informed. Breakfast rolls were nice however was not sufficient compared to full cooked breakfast maybe bring allowed more than one roll would have been better.

Great room.

Great room - good communication from Kerry. comfy bed but not comfy pillows. Breakfast great and we would stay again. Only bit of a problem was guests partying in room next door and the voices seem to travel and magnify coming out of the air con vent??? Other than that it was all great Thankyou
