« Excellent experience »

We were planning our first family getaway with our 4months old baby and decided to go ti Mercure Grand Hotel in Bristol. We can absolutely say that we have made the right decision! A superb Hotel with a strategic position so close to the City Centre. The room are spacious and comfortable, we were also provided with a travel cot for our baby which was lovely. The staff at reception and bar were really professional and made us feel welcome. The only down point was that we couldn’t get to use the leisure centre as they were closed .. but other than that everything was just spot on! What else to say...we will definitely be back! Highly recommend !

« Disappointing »

Room wasn't ready on arrival although we were after the check in time so we had to go away and come back. Room was cold. Leisure facilities were out of order.

Booked the suite for our 10 year anniversary as we got married at the hotel when it was a thistle. The suite is sparse with not any luxury anymore. The bath was dirty, there were no soft drinks, only one coffee pod. On arrival to the hotel we were informed of a loud party taking place, I asked if this would affect us and told no. However there party was in the room 2 floors below us and was so loud it could have been outside the door. Not exactly the luxurious 4 Star stay you expect when staying in a suite.

I stayed whilst attending a two day conference also being held in the hotel. The room was adequate, although if I had much work to do whilst there I would have struggled without any reasonable desk in the room. The room itself was clean and quiet although quite dark. The breakfast was fine. The conference facilities were tired and in urgent need of a refurb. The conference dinner was awful and I would not recommend this at all. I did leave something in the room by mistake and struggled to get in touch with the hotel so sent an email. A week later this was unacknowledged and nobody contacted me about the lost property, even though it was found straight away so obviously mine. I have spent a week trying to get in touch and even now, it isn't sorted. For a short leisure stay, the hotel is fine. For business purposes, the rooms do not have the facilities needed. The conference facilities are poor. Aftercare leaves a lot to be desired.

« One night away »

We stayed in 316 room. The corridor was noisy at night having one of the corridor doors near our room. The bathroom had a shower over a bath. The bath had stains on the bottom on the bath which stopped me from using the shower. The bathroom was cold as it had no heating. The outside windows had cracks in the glass in bathroom and bedroom. The heating was convector heating which was very noises all night. The room it’s self was of nice decor.

Ok Apart from a hair clump in my bed which was gross. My daughter needed to swill down the shower before I used it as there were ‘bits’ in the tray. Asked for some mint tea bags for my daughter who is pregnant and not drinking caffeine and was told to go down to reception to get it. Would have been great to have a choice of teabags. Pleased to see a proper hairdryer not one of those ones on the wall in the bathroom. Didn’t eat at the hotel. Seems the sort of hotel for stag dos and the like. Staff were very friendly. Basically mediocre and not great value for money.

« Overall an unpleasant and uneasy experience. »

Our entire experience with this company was dreadful from beginning to end. We had a free voucher with buyagift and the Ts&Cs stated we would pay a £30 surcharge for a Saturday night. We rang up to check the voucher was viable, there was some confusion over whether they had a room available but eventually they said we could stay and use the voucher. Upon arrival we were held in reception for almost half an hour as no details of our call had been recorded. They tried to make us pay the entire room booking- £170 eventually they agreed on £50 which was still £20 more than we were supposed to pay. The room was listed as an incorrect price on the voucher and it was only stated to cover £120. They also had no knowledge of this voucher company. The receptionist told us this was just to cover the difference and we would get our £20 back in the morning when her boss came in. In the morning we were told that there was nothing they could do until Monday. When we called them the following week we were not only told that they would not be honouring the terms of the voucher and be giving us our money back but they also said that they would be taking the remainder out of our account- £120. We informed them that this is stealing and have not heard from them since. The entire time we were treated like fraudsters or criminals in spite of providing all the proof we had. The only small saving grace was free parking and a drink to compensate for our trouble- which was just as well really as we will have to consider that our £20 returned. Overall an unpleasant and uneasy experience.

« Recently refurbished room but forgot the window glass? »

We chose the Bristol Grand as it is situated in the older part of Bristol giving easy access to the city. Our Privilege Double room on the first floor was directly opposite the door entrance to the lift / stairs area and so it was really noisy with people coming and going throughout the night - mainly coming. . . To add to this, the very large original windows were missing an inner pane of glass on one side and with the room at the front of the hotel overlooking the road, his meant that there was also a lot of noise from vehicle & people traffic. The air conditioning unit seemed very old and hard to control. The fan in the bathroom just did not work. The supplied dressing gowns were clean but unfortunately not designed for the "larger body" - unlike the slippers which were huge. On the plus side, so was the bed! The breakfast was good with ample choice in the hot food section although the vegetarian sausages had to be cooked to order leaving the rest of your plate to cool down. We had neither the time nor inclination to make use of the gym / pool so cannot comment on them. Overall, had we intended a longer stay we would have definitely had to change to a quieter room but for the two nights we had booked we just couldn't be bothered.

Very noisy, I was disturbed by doors slamming in the hallways throughout the night and my bed seemed to move whenever anyone walked past my room (wobbly floorboards).

« OUr stay at the Bristol Mercure was very comfortable and enjoyable »

We have stayed previously at the Bristol Mercure and as then, had a comfortable stay .. We even found time to use room service which was promptly delivered and of good quality. Our only regret was not questioning reception and asking for a change of room, as the room we were given was fitted with Disability Adaptions which we neither needed or asked for ..

« AmZing attention from staff , making feel people vip »

On my arrival everything was ready and they greet me , took less than 5 minutes to check in , they made sure I was comfortable and asked if I needed anything please contact the front desk, my room was clean and spacious . Very comfortable and at the right temperature . Special thanks to Stu the night manager and the reception staff . Will not hesitate to stay in this hotel again .

« Small rooms and overpriced »

Given a very small room for 2, not worth the price paid. Get better from small hotels. Also had to sort out the heating.

« Nothing ‘grand’ in this Grand Hotel! »

The bedroom we were given was tiny and with a very small and uncomfortable bed (less than double size), unsuitable for a couple. The heating air vent rumbled all night and created a sticky stuffy feel in the room, adding annoyance to an already very uncomfortable sleepless night. In the morning there was a constantly long queue to get seated for breakfast, as the room didn’t have enough tables for the size of the hotel - and then another long queue to get your food, which was very limited in choice and quality - the scrambled eggs were a burnt solid block of tasteless eggy mess! And most of the tables were without table cloth so, the room actually being the pub at night, we had to eat on sticky wooden tables... trying not to think about the germs in there... And finally, the car park cost £15 per night! As a Silver Accor member, this was the worst hotel I’ve stayed at!

Overall the stay was disappointing for the rate that we paid, we only found out that the heating system had broken down when we arrived at our room finding a small portable heater in the room, we were not informed of this at check in. We asked for more blankets as we had a baby staying with us, however the blankets were not provided and even at this point we were not offered any alternative room or additional heating.
