MOST UNPROFESSIONAL PLACE TO STAY, BETTER NOT !

TripAdvisor rating 1.0/5

So I write this review in full disappointment, frustration and displeased at the behaviour from The Grand Mercure. I had a made booking for Jan 30th - Feb 2nd and was travelling on business and I booked it through Accor App. Being an ex employee of Accor Australia I thought it would be a very proud thing to stay in one of the hotels I have worked for but all to my disappointment that the hotel cancelled my booking without giving me any heads up. My booking number(MBVDGWQF)(23993666.1.) They even sent out an email for custom upgrade. The reception had no clue what was going on, they were not even interested to help but say " I am so sorry" I went to check in at 6:30pm and they told me that I had not confirmed the booking and did not have a card on file. Oh what a lie. my check in date and 6:30 they had already cancelled it. No emails or phone calls asking for confirmation or asking for payment. I visit Dubai every month for one week on work, I have earlier stayed at another Accor property in downtown and they called me the previous day asked me to send the payment out for confirmation. No professional behaviour from any of the front office staff and very unfriendly and unhelpful. They said they don't have room to make a walk in booking either. Think they wanted to bump me out because they were over booked. Not sure if anyone would want to take a chance to make your booking here and go through hell at the reception !!

Does not deserve its 5 star rating.

I upgraded my initial score from ONE star to THREE, because I pity the staff. We stayed longer than one night and I had the opportunity to observe how "guests" treat the staff, scream and shout, lie and make unreasonable demands. This doesn't take a way that as a silver (only) Accor member I should feel welcome, expect a smile at arrival and be treated with the same respect that I accord to the staff. Our reservation was in the Accor system, but not in the hotel's ! We were treated wit suspicion, as if we were trying to scam our way into the hotel, despite of having prints of our reservations. The result was that we didn't get the room type we reserved and that other details of our resevation were initially not honored. We got verbal apologies, which I don not consider commensurate with our experiences. Unfortunately I have no suggestions how to break the vicious circle in which the hotel has landed.

CHAOS Hotel overbooked and couldnt give me the room i paid for. GUY on check in desk abandoned his post.

So i paid fully in advance. I also informed them i would arrive 2am to 3am. After a long flight i arrived at the 5 star hotel lobby at 2.10am. There was a que and i stood there for 20 minutes and could here the guest in front of my shouting beacuse they had cancelled his room. At 2.30am they finished with one guest and i was hoping to check in but they told me they had overbooked the hotel and they would pay for me to star at another 5 star hotel. I wasnt happy but i was resonable and didnt complain beacuse i thought it would be a quick process. The guy who took my passport also had 15 other passports on the check in counter, the top one was Korean and anyone could jave easly stolen them it was completly unprofessional. I made sure i got mine back. It was now 3.30 I asked the guy on check in why it was taking so long to move me. He said they were waiting for the hotel to approve my stay. He then disappeared as though he was going to check. It was total chaos there was more and more people coming into the lobby who had paid and couldnt check in as they were overbooked by many rooms. There was now one guy on check in and you couldnt speak to him beacuse there was so many people in the lobby. At about 430am a woman came to start her shift on the check in desk. She knew abosulty nothing about that i was waiting to be moved. The guy had just abandoned his role and not handed over anything. This was totaly unacceptable that he didnt even finish booking the new hotel room. Did he go home? , go for lunch break.? Thats the guy pictured They did eventually move me to a sister hotel with no airport shuttle. They also moved other guests into the same hotel who arrived after me. I was offered no drink on arrival and it was 1.5 hours before i was given a tiny bottle of water. Not five star at all. An airport hotel that has passengers flying long flights should not be overbooking to save pennys. They should also not take over 2.30 hours to rebook a new hotel. If they have messed up they should be giving the best service. This is the more poor service

Not A Good Experience

Check in team is untrained and cannot answer key question, although it was swift. Room kept on smelling with strange smell of gutter back from one of the bathroom. No snacks or Toiletries provided. Room service for food ordering is terrible, without payment confirmation they cannot take order, even though advance and security is with hotel still it's not considered.

Very disappointing experience

SirDerwood Business - TripAdvisor review

Very disappointing stay at the Grand Mercure. Check-in experience was incredibly slow, it seemed the person checking me in had very little experience and had to continue asking others for help. Room was ok, but there was some damage to some of the fixtures that should have been repaired. Breakfast was a disaster, very busy and the wait staff had given my table away whilst I was getting a coffee! Selection of food and drink was very limited and not of the best quality. As a side note, none of the benefits I should have received as an Accor gold card holder were offered. Will not be returning sadly
