Convenient, classy, and nicely renovated lobby

My stay was very good. Spent 3 nights at the hotel for business. Lobby renovation is impressive and the vibe of the hotel is more modern than it used to be. Rooms remain somewhat dated and dark. Fitness facility was good.

Great location, but paper-thin walls

I arrived by train, so the location across the street was ideal. I expected for such a grande-dame of a hotel that privacy would be assured. Instead, I could hear conversations and snoring from the room next-door through paper-thin walls and light shining in around the door from the hallway along with noise from staff and guests!

Abnormal

upon check-in, my CC was 'unswipeable' due to wear. As a result, I was told I must pay all nights in advance plus a $200 hold on incidentals, that I would not be able to bill anything to the room nor use the minibar. The fact that I'm pretty sure it's possible to manually enter my CC into the system, or use the chip in some manner. But apparently, "every hotel in the world operates like this." As a worldwide traveller, I'm certain this is false. Or at least most other front desks will make an effort to accommodate the guest. In my view, this was a ridiculous display of holier-than-thou and, "how dare I present a card that they're unable to swipe." Having stayed at the Chateau Whistler, Hotel Vancouver, Empress and other Fairmont properties, I can assuredly say that this was the worst experience I've had in any hotel in decades.

Perfect location!

We took the train from Cornwall, ON to Toronto to see the Maple Leafs game, and couldn’t have asked for a better location! As soon as you exit Union Station the hotel is right there. The staff is amazing, friendly and makes you feel right at home.

Good but a little disappointed

Room was basic and well appointed. You can hear everything that happens in the hallway. The vibe when you walk in is quite neat in the way the bars are situated in the middle of the room. I was a bit disoriented on where to go but there is lots of staff to direct you to the “front desk” which is off to the right when you first walk in. I will say I was more than a little disappointed with how I was received at both hotel bars being a solo traveller. There was no room for the entire evening. To be fair it was busy, but to not have a single chair for hours and hours? Weird but okay.
