Great service, friendly staff, the usual stay at Fairmont Palliser. Covid conscious, which is a plus. Greeted as silver elite members which did not happen at a recent stay in Edmonton. Was able to book a massage for my wife at short notice. It’s my favourite hotel for a reason!

Had a great stay, particularly as we were able to take advantage of a room upgrade to a one-bedroom suite for only $26 extra per night. Enjoyed the ability to stream our phone onto the TV as well. Request to the front desk for cream was answered quickly.

I booked the bed and breakfast and then at check-in was told they don’t offer in room dining for breakfast. I was told that I could go down and eat breakfast in the restaurant. I wouldn’t of ordered the bed and breakfast combo you can’t get the bed and breakfast (hence the name and the selling feature of the combo). I asked if the hotel could do something to comp us for the inconvenience and I was told th we could not do anything. I told them it was my wife’s bday and they told me they could give us a free dessert in the restaurant? The rooms TV remote did not work so we called down to get someone to fix it. The power bar that the coffee maker was plugged into was not plugged in to the wall which was hidden behind an extremely large tv dresser. We tried to move the 200lbs dresser and ended up having to fish the cord out from the back and move the coffee maker to another part of the room to have coffee in the morning. No cream, had to call down because they forgot to stock. Again frustrating because we ordered the bed in breakfast combo to enjoy some time away from our two young kids at home. This was the purpose of the trip, to lay in bed and enjoy not having to deal with two young kids, haha. We ordered the breakfast and walked down to pick it up, my key would not allow me to go back up the elevator (it was only 9:00 in the morning, not sure why my card deactivated). I had to wait in line at the front desk for a bit while the attendant dealt with some other guests while my breakfast grew cold. We did not go downstairs and checkout and I see they still charged me for the breakfast that was supposed to be inclusive of the package from us ordering from the room and going down and picking up the breakfast manually. I do not have the desire to call and try and clear things up. All in all pretty small issues but when they compounded it left a bad taste in my mouth about the experience. At this point I am not sure we will be returning.

My husband wanted a nice room for our 1 night stay in Calgary. After reading the reviews on line he decided to book the Palliser. He wanted a more upscale room and they could only offer a room $200+ per night as there were no rooms available between $200+ and 400/night. He was told the room was a newly renovated room, so he took it. The room was ok, but we have stayed in less expensive accommodations that were a lot nicer. We were disappointed to find that the bathroom was very small and there was mold around the tub. The seam in the rug near the bathroom was fraying and there were huge cobwebs over the curtain near the bed. My husband gets up to go to the toilet during the night, and the nightlight on his side of the bed didn't work. He was disheartened by the nasty trick the cleaning staff played, which was them leaving the mobile shower pointed outwards from the tub, so that when you turn on the shower, you get a face full of cold water. The fireplace didn't work either. In our opinion, this was not a newly renovated room or everything would have been fixed, including the moldy caulking around the tub. For that kind of money, one would expect much better. This room could have easily been in a highway motel. We went for breakfast and the sugar bowl was full of hard sugar packages (all had been wet and had hardened and had yellow staining- It is obviously they don't get checked or changed...very unhygienic). I had two cups of coffee and when the second cup arrived cold I complained. Cold coffee? Really? The dining room/lounge was very beautiful and the food and service was good, although very expensive for what you get. Would we stay at this hotel again? Probably not. Would we recommend it? Probably not, as I think it is too overpriced and not worth the price. Very disappointed. I am a certified Travel Agent that has travelled to over 70 countries and this hotel was a big disappointed for where it is located, what it offers and what you get for your money.

I absolutely love the palliser. Their service is top notch every single time and they are amazing at paying attention to detail. I love their spacious rooms, the bathrooms, and the dining options at Hawthorne. A highlight for me on this specific trip was the RNR spa which is AMAZING! The service is impeccable and the massage I had was just divine. Overall, a brilliant experience. Only complaint is that there were some tears in our bed linen (the duvet) but other than that, amazing as always.

Confusion over booking soured the experience

I had booked with the fairmont as I wanted as stress free a stay as possible, as I was in Calgary for a rather stressful reason. Unfortunately the first thing I am told upon entering the hotel is “ you were supposed to arrive yesterday”, which is incorrect, I had my confirmation email that said the 19th on it, the day I arrived. She tells me I have to pay the balance of the rooms right then which is fine, but when I check my banking app it shows a charge for $300 already from the hotel. I showed her this and she said “ yes that is our no show fee for yesterday.” She said it would be reversed, (still hasn’t been yet. )also when booking I had requested a room upgrade if one was available, and in the email it said they would let you know at check in if you had gotten the upgrade, nothing at all was said about that. This negative first impression stayed with me my entire stay. Then checking my invoice at the end the charge for the rooms was more than the confirmation email I had had stated, and it charged us for the room upgrade that I don’t know if we even got or not as I was never told anything. The lack of communication added the stress I was trying to avoid on this trip. I was quite disappointed as every other time I have stayed at a fairmont I have nothing but great memories, but this left me just feeling frustrated with no desire to go back. (Also, my dinner at the Hawthorne was mediocre. The drink was super tiny and my burger was so full of mayonnaise that was all I could taste, but my sister really enjoyed her trout and we both loved the sourdough bread with honey butter) The hotel staff themselves were excellent.

Great king bed, warm room and hotel decor, hotel amenities largely great! However, astounded to be asked $15 or $25 per day for internet useage. Ridiculous.
