very good. ambiance is what is expected. Location is superb. we live in Ottawa so it was a chance to enjoy the downtown while staying at the Chateau. It was nice to see the building before the monstrosity that is being proposed ruins the look from the river

Our three-night stay at the CL was very enjoyable and comfortable. The children enjoyed the pool (and the adorable kids' robes). All staff were kind and helpful, and the included breakfast buffet was a bit hit with everyone. The negative experience I had related to this stay was concerning the telephone agent whom I spoke to regarding cancelation of a second reservation that I'd made for my in-laws, who were ultimately unable to join us as previously planned. I understood that I had two days to cancel without penalty, and called three days in advance of their scheduled check-in. I was told that the reservation was entirely non-refundable, and that I was welcome to cancel the reservation, but would be required to pay the full about (over $700). The telephone agent said that the fact that it was non-refundable was clearly printed on my invoice. I was gobsmacked, but had a train to catch. I spent two hours worrying on a train to meet my family and in-laws in Kingston. When I arrived I checked my email receipt and called back. My in-laws are 82 and 90 years old; I would not have made a reservation that I couldn't cancel, but the agent I spoke to had caused me to doubt myself. Through this call, I was connected with staff at the CL itself (though, the agent I spoke to identified herself as a staff member of the CL, she apparently was not). Emmet assured me that the reservation was fully refundable within 48 hours, and dealt with this process kindly and efficiently. Though this is certainly a "no harm done" situation, I feel that the Accor staff members should be more competent at providing accurate information, or transfer inquiries about existing reservations directly to the relevant hotel.

« Amazing luxury, incredible service »

Our stay on the Club floor of the Chateau Laurier was sumptuous. The rooms were quiet and comfortable, the bathrooms clean, the showers voluminous, and the people incredible. We got to know most of the staff (both housekeeping and front desk) during our stay - such wonderful people. They all went out of their way to be helpful, accommodating, and welcoming. I am looking forward to my next stay there!

« A great hotel experience »

The first time that my husband and I chose to spend Christmas on our own with a treat, I decided that we should go with this hotel to see if we can have a great time... and WE DID! The room was most comfortable, the reception was most helpful and accommodating and all the hotel staff was at their peak performance. « Classic hotel experience lacked five star value. »

Suite bedroom was very nice, suite living room was very average and dated. Mixture of furnishings and decor looked and felt like a conference meeting room, not a state room. We all loved the pool which I have been enjoying since the 1960's as a kid. That was wonderful just before diner. When we booked room we hoped to eat at hotel on Dec 25 but you were all booked so we had a modern meal at the Shoreclub across the street. All the staff were lovely and very supportive from check in to check out. But this is not the Chateau Frontenac or the Fairmont Singapore which I adore as 5 star hotels and facilities.

« Enjoyed our stay »

The staff was very courteous and helpful. No complaints about the room; it was as expected. Only ate breakfast. Just average. Two downers: whoever thinks that what you serve as "pancakes" even qualify as food should be sent back to cooking school- an embarrassment to Fairmont. Likewise for the muffins, unless the uncooked one I took was an exception. Somehow I doubt it. I did mention the pancale to the maitre-d' who gave me a look that suggested I wasn't the first to complain.

« It was good - but not great - like other stays we've had there. »

We had to wait 3 hours for our cot. My husband was exhausted from our long drive, and he was asleep by the time it arrived at 10:00pm!! I wanted to get to the parliament buildings to see the lights - but was unable to do that as I didn't want to miss delivery of the bed for my son, as he was out, and husband asleep. Also- there seemed to be a disconnect at the buffet breakfast - as I was originally charged on my check-out bill for 3 buffet breakfasts. Didn't they check my room, and that it was included?

« Not very restful. »

We were given a room with an adjoining room. Needless to say, we did not ask for one. In a very short period of time, we discovered the adjoining door and the walls are not sufficiently insulated. The clients next to us were a couple. The conversation between them was clear, and to say the least, augmentative. Their conversation lasted during the night and early morning. Our decision to not contact front desk was because we had no desire to change rooms nor cause conflict with the neighbors.

« Rivalled by Limited Service Hotels = Left Early »

I booked five nights at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier and we had a few issues during our stay. 1. Global reservations told us this property had a 25lb pet weight restriction. Therefore, we put our dog (35lbs) in boarding. When we arrived there were medium and large sized dogs. Some looked over 100lbs. We were very let down by not having our dog with us and the boarding cost us a lot more than the pet fee would have cost us. 2. I checked in around 3PM; however, the room wasn’t ready. I told the Agent that it is ridiculous. He responded by saying “Wait actually I found an Inspected room I can put you in but for future reference it is 4pm check-in”. When I got to the room, it was one of the tiniest hotel rooms I’ve ever stayed in. I stayed at the Fairmont Vancouver Waterfront, Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai, Royal York and countless others. None had such a small room. There was a bathroom and bed. That’s it! Therefore, I feel like the Agent put me in this room because I said “it’s 3PM and the room isn’t ready?!” So I was given the worst room in the property. 3. While we were in Zoe’s, we waited over 20 minutes for our server to come back and take our orders. We decided to leave and when we were leaving she was walking towards us. Noticing we were leaving, she scoffed, rolled her eyes and walked away. 4. Another server in Zoe’s constantly called me “Bro”. I’m not necessarily complaining or offended but I’m sure if I fit the profile of a typical guest staying in this caliber of hotel then I would have been addressed differently. 5. By far, the most frustrating was the Valet Service. If a hotel is going to charge $49 per day for valet parking, the service should be at least hospitable and hasty. We were told it would take a maximum of 20 minutes to retrieve the car. We waited over 50 minutes for our car one particular day. This caused us to be late for a massage treatment at Le Nordik Spa, which was over $500. Possibly what made it worse was when I asked the valet for an update, his response was “you’re talking to the wrong guy”. 6. The TV in our room did not work. After the situation with the valet, we decided to cut our trip short and go home. We wanted to come to Ottawa for a relaxing break from our hectic jobs but it just frustrated us. We decided to return home a day earlier to be with family instead of frustrated at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier. The manager, Laura, offered to not charge us for the final night that we were not staying at the hotel, which was courteous. When I explained the dog situation she said “I’ll definitely pull up the phone records to make sure that was said for improving guest service but didn’t bother to ask for the phone number or any details to actually locate the conversation”. Therefore, it made me feel like she didn’t believe me. We didn’t ask for anything in return or any refunds so it was distasteful for her to be critical of my complaint. I was going to leave without saying anything but they asked me about my stay so I told them how I felt. Finally, she told me she would send me a receipt by email, which never came until I had to call and request one. I had such high expectations for the Fairmont and I was let down considerably. This property needs to revisit its guest services. When charging nearly $1000 for a few nights in Ottawa, I would expect a five star experience at a hotel like the Fairmont Chateau Laurier. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Instead, the service encounters rivalled that one may experience at a Comfort Inn.

« It was amazing! »

The staff were extremely pleasant and very professional. The room was impeccably clean and smelled great. The only negative was that one of the toilets was not working properly. We contacted front desk and they sent a plumber right away to fix it; however, it got damaged again. The toilet was noisy all night trying to fill the tank but never did. We didn't bother to call front desk again because it didn't look like it would be fixed properly.
