We chose Raffles to celebrate our marriage and my husband’s birthday. Marking this special occasion, Raffles has given us the lifetime memorable experience the moment we step out of our door step. Besides a generous upgrade to their prestigious Lady Sophia Suite, we were warmly welcomed by their Butlers YuJin and Gin who attended to all of our needs during this short stay. The hotel is rich with history and culture, beautifully architected and most importantly, the affable and genuine hospitality. Thank you Raffles, you are Singapore’s proudest icon.

« Somewhat disappointing »

The personal butler system doesn't seem to work when booking tables at the restaurant. We booked dinner in the BBR with the butler, and we were not told that this was a seat at the bar on high chairs. My elderly mother was not able to sit on these. Luckily the restaurant manager managed to rearrange other diners to accommodate us. He informed us this often happens

Our expectations were surpassed from the greetings starting at the airport, to the arrival at the hotel and the staff that attended to our needs throughout our stay. A truly Iconic Hotel in every aspect, a most memorable experience. The quality of the furnishing and trimmings to the attentiveness of our butler and others made our stay all the more luxurious. Our dinning experience was just as amazing, as was our first introduction to the Singapore sling in the Long bar. My only criticism was the absence of white table cloth,s in La Dame De Pic restaurant. Both my wife and I hope one day we may return to enjoy the Raffles experience once again.

The newly renovated hotel is excellent. The renovation was done right. Rooms, bathrooms and common areas are all very nice. Food service, particularly breakfast, was excellent. My only complaint is our large suite had no dresser drawers, which means we had to layout the clothes from our suitcases on the floor.

Brilliant, but not disabled friendly....too many steps, not enough ramps....on leaving pool area, two lots of steps....from lift to ground floor suite, had to pass through groups enjoying afternoon teas, which was awkward....

The stay was enjoyable. The room itself was presented beautifully and the staff courteous and attentive. The only issue was when you opened the front door! For a hotel of this stature/price range I would expect all rooms to have at least an open aspect. Our room had our outside space tucked away in a dark, enclosed corner to the left with a stairwell door immediately opposite our front door. This was disappointing.

« Service Fell Short, But the Room Was Very Nice and We Liked the Understated Luxury »

We recently stayed at the Raffles Hotel in a State Suite for 4 nights. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, especially liking the high fit and finish of the newly renovated rooms and the under-stated luxury of the historic, rambling low-rise property. However, we were somewhat disappointed by the standard of service and in particular, we found two aspects soured our experience. First, we never really felt welcome when we returned to the hotel through the main lobby. Unlike other luxury hotels, doormen weren’t consistently present to open the doors for us or welcome us with a warm greeting. In fact, we felt that we were being challenged by staff almost every time we returned and forced to justify our presence. My wife commented that when she entered the lobby, multiple staff members would approach her and instead of saying “Welcome back” or “welcome back Mrs. P.” they would pepper her with questions implying that they wanted her to justify her presence (ie. “How can I help you?” “Ma’am, where are you going?” “Are you going back to your room?” Etc.) Frankly, this sort of questioning was impertinent and highly frustrating. I experienced something similar. It was an uncomfortable experience and something we haven’t seen at any of our hotel stays. It got to the point where I would take out my leather keycard so that the staff could see I was a guest and not bother me. But this is a luxury hotel, not my office building and I shouldn’t have to do this. I get that you’re trying to keep non-resident tourists out of the lobby, but this is coming at the expense of hotel guests not getting the sort of welcome that they would experience at other luxury hotels. Second, we felt that the service from the suite butlers was perfunctory and lacking in warmth and grace. We utilized the in-suite check-out and our butler didn’t smile once, didn’t ask us how we enjoyed our stay or where we were going next. We really felt that we weren’t valued guests. In addition, despite confirming our preferred check-out time of 11:15am, the butler showed up at 11:23am. Our initial suite briefing by the butler also felt very perfunctory. We really wanted to love the Raffles and in many ways we enjoyed our stay. This is why it was so disappointing that key points of our interaction with the service (our returns to the hotel through the main lobby and our check-out) made us feel unwelcome and left sour memories. We travel to Singapore once or twice a year, and we enjoy trying different properties to get different experiences. Our first impression upon checking in to the Raffles was that we might want to return, but after 4 nights and the check-out, we were left thinking that we would continue to try other hotels. Finally, we e-mailed these comments to the hotel and never got a response, which I find really telling that management of the hotel does not seem to care about guest satisfaction or thoughtful feedback.
